Went to a yoga class this morning. Fuck the negative stigma for it for males. It made my lower back way better than physical therapy and what 2 chiropractors ever could.

It's hard af with some instructors, or yawn easy mode stretch session with others.

I teach yoga. The benefits are limitless. The body awareness that you can cultivate through the practice are incredible, and it helps immensely with lifting. I say this in class a lot- on the most basic level, the physical movements of yoga are a system for understanding the body- where we have strengths, where we have weaknesses, and the most efficient ways for us to address and utilize them. Through this understanding I've seen many upgrades in my lifting, with form and core strength.

However, when we are talking about yoga, what we are really talking about is a state of mind, or a higher state of consciousness. The movements and the breath are just tools to reach that state of higher awareness. The benefits of yoga really begin to unfold when you supplement the practices with readings of the philosophy, and introspection/self study through meditation.

I used to struggle with heroin addiction, and yoga was the piece that pulled me out of it, and afforded me the open mindedness to work with things like group therapy and sponsorship/step work. It also gave me trust in my body, which I have been able to leverage to work on my traumas. I have had many issues that I could not address with my mind, but rather had to begin with the body. Most importantly, the physical movements of yoga train distress tolerance- one's ability to remain in discomfort and find presence regardless.

And yeah, hot girls do yoga if you're interested in that. Go to one of the yuppier studios.

Yoga is great I do vinyasa 5x a week and it’s helped me really improve my flexibility and find out my weaknesses/strengths. The grills also love it too. Whenever I tell a girl I do yoga their eyes light up get far enough and you can mog other guys with your flexibility and balance

yoga completely changed how i feel in my body and how i feel my body, i used to think yoga is just stretching and i was always on my phone "stretching". when I started yoga i just was there with my breath and body and i could feel my body adjusting itself to proper form, i realized i had locked up hips for my entire life until i started yoga, i realized my shoulders were using ~40% of their ROM and mobility due to tightness and when I opened them up with yoga my upper back felt so light. yoga changed my body , i want to thank god or whoever showed me it

2 things help me balance

1. Keep mindfulness and attention on the four corners of your feet (not your toes) and press into the floor, this awareness should always be there in balances. I find when I focus somewhere else on my body my balance wanes.

2. Keep your focus on the stretch. The more attention I paid to the stretch the more balance I had.

Real, I'm starting yoga, and I've been using the downdog app. It's free, has videos and voiceover explaining shit, and randomized and customizable routines. So you can go at different tempos and types and lengths with more options if you subscribe.

Anyone else used it? Opinions? Are there any better apps or channels out there if you want to practice at home?

Try variations for standing leg to knee like placing your leg on an iron board and stretching that way. For warrior 3 I would use a chair to place my arms on and a yoga block to help me balance in half moon pose. Just try variations and assistance for poses you can’t quite do yet you’ll get there eventually
