Is this true? Redpill me on bulking. Started lifting roughly this time last year, was 130 lbs, no muscle at all. Currently still 130 lbs, evolved to dyel, been on a 500 calorie deficit the entire time. Between advice to lift harder and eat more, what should I be doing?

Depends how tall you are. If you're not literally 5'0 then definitely bulk a ton.

if i'm 6'0", how many cal should i have when cutting?

bulk only if you are fine with much longer cuts. otherwise just eat around maintenance and build muscle slowly but teadily

eat at a caloric surplus and eat 130+ grams of protein every day, no need to "lift harder" how did you plan to gain muscle out of thin air?

t. I thought I could gain muscle out of thin air as well and didn't until I did the above, started 10lbs less than you

>bulk only if you are fine with much longer cuts
lol no one needs to cut for more than a month at a time unless they're grossly overweight

Depends on how much you "bulked". Really shouldn't be trying to lose more than .5-1 lbs/week or else you'll be losing too much muscle. Cut too quickly and by the time you get to your pre-bulk weight or lower you will have made, at best, insignificant gains. Just spinning your wheels.

I mean again this all depends on how hard you bulked and what weight you want to get down to, but the traditional cut/bulk cycles aren't helping you progress that much, if at all.

Not Op, but what if I need more muscle but Im at 22% bodyfat? Should I stick at 1g/lb and deficit?

Yes. You are at a high enough bf that you can still easily build muscle in a deficit.

my understanding is on a cut you want 1.5g to preserve what muscle you have, but yes a deficit to burn that fat

Lean bulk into infinity. There is zero incentive to cut when you have 0 muscle.

it's why you need to keep track of your BF% on the way up, if you just bulk like a retard you are just adding fat, you will add some fat, but you need to dial it in, adjust up or down 100 calories after seeing the results from a week at one number

agreed that is the smart way to do it but let's just realize that when the majority of people say they are gonna bulk they are talking like 500cal+ surplus and much of that will just turn to fat. Really to minimize fat gain you don't want to be at much more than a 200-300 cal surplus, at which most people will think they are making slow progress and then add more and just get fatter and then cut too quickly and lose all the size and then bulk back up and the cycle continues.

I think even 200-300 is too much. Only novices who are genetic marvels can realistically expect to gain half a pound a week. For the rest of us, a quarter to a third is more realistic, meaning 100-200 is better for keeping gains lean.

You want to be bulking as much as possible. So bulk slow and over a long period. Cutting is really easy I don't know why people make it out to be the hardest thing ever. Don't get a fupa but if you lose definition in your abs it's a nonissue if you're not in a position to show off your abs all the time. Your arms get bigger, you get stronger and you fill out your frame better.

OP here, was walking the dog

5'8" so I'm a manlet

Would now be a good time to start bulking? I haven't been cutting very well considering I'm still 20%+ bf and still dyel. Want to get summer beach bod ready by next summer since I couldn't this year

I eat 400g chicken breast on rest days and 600g when working out, but should I fill up on more rice to meet calories? I usually just have a bowl whenever I can.

So what I'm getting from this is that I should be eating more but still lean, high protein low carb, to build muscle because I'm dyel and cutting when I finally want to show muscle definition?

If you're below 15% body fat, bulk with a 200 calorie surplus. If you're not, cut.

You can probably afford to gain another 70 pounds. Seriously. If you work out hard and slow bulk to that weight you could probably eventually get to 200 pounds at 10% bodyfat. I'm 5'11" at 185 lbs and 17% bodyfat and I've only been lifting like a year.

honestly I agree %100. That is perfect for adding muscle while staying lean. Only reason I argue against "bulking" is because most people mean a much different thing.

for bulking you also want your macros to be carb heavy, so get your required protein and then shoot for more carbs than fat, but not 0 fat, we weigh the same, you are just an inch taller than me, so we should both shoot for like a 50/30/20 split carb fat protein

and yea, we weigh 130 and we've been doing a year of lifting, we have no reason to cut yet, I am aiming for 160+ before I even think of it, but I am trying to stay no higher than 15% BF, I track my stuff every day, after a week you can see what's working and adjust

>inseam longer than waist => maintain/bulk
>inseam shorter than waist => cut

Im fat as shit, 280lbs at 6'0 and started eating at a 500 cal deficit every day. Can i gain muscle and lose fat at the same time?

Yes if novice lifter. Otherwise no.

So I assume in my situation i should cut hard and then worry about packing on muscle

I'm not a novice and I do alternating calorie days to do both a bulk and cut

I'm also lucky genetically for this kind of thing to work some of my friends tried it and it outright didn't work for them so ymmv

Try to a bit closer to your daily, get about .5 to .6 of your weight in protein a day which is fine since you're carrying extra fat at the moment, and get your metabolism skyrocketed by gaining muscle

Just remember to look at things in terms of weeks months and longer and don't expect anything to happen quickly

>6'2", 172 lbs
>no muscle at all after some health problems last year; high body fat
>recently got back into lifting since high school
>bench only 65 lbs
>OHP only 65 lbs
>squat only 95 lbs
>dead only 115 lbs
Should I cut or bulk, boys? I don't want to get even fatter and it's hurting my self-esteem, but at the same time I don't want to potentially miss out on my noob gains by not eating enough, BUT at the same time my lifts are half of what they were way back when I was 16 and it's burning me up. What should I do? Thank you for reading.

here's the thing, if you cut, you can cut all the way to skeletal and since your muscle is so minimal you will look like shit all the way down to that, you have to build muscle, and to do that you need a caloric surplus and enough protein, 172 at 6'2" doesn't seem fat, that seems skinny so you are simply skinny fat, I am 5'7" and shooting for your weight before cutting and I'm at 131, if I were in your shoes I would clean bulk to 200+, monitor your BF% so you aren't just getting fat added, but muscle mainly, it is a slow process, and then at that point you can think about cutting and getting that lean look

This doesnt apply to everyone right? Im 5’7” 148lbs when i started cutting. Thats a pretty low weight for my height but people here said i should cut cause i look β€œfat” but im more skinnyfat. I think people should cut if bf% is too high.
Its so hard cause you need to bulk to get muscles but you already have too much fat. This whole fitness thing is so hard bruh

it is tough but if you haven't built muscle in advance it will look like shit, after working out for a couple of months but not getting the required amount of protein and calories, I decided I wanted to cut to see abs like everyone does, I cut to 119 at 11% and my pathetic abs were visible for what they were and I looked like shit, it's not worth it

I'm ashamed of it but I will post a pic if you want

You're telling me I should bulk to 38" waist? Are you retarded?

is it bad/ unhealthy to eat the exact same things every day while on a bulk?

Idk I think I'll stick with cutting since bf% is too high. I did bulk the first month and gained like 8lbs and sooome muscles. People said to cut downto 10% but idk im okay with maybe 16% bf since i dont want to look like a stick

Nigger did you even read the sticky

No one does.

Depends on what you're eating I guess. Bulking on mcdoubles everyday is ill advised

Breakfast: Weekbix (or oats)
Lunch: Two Peanut Butter sandwhiches with 250g mixed veggies (broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, beans)
Dinner: Chicken Mince with rice (either jasmine or brown)

Do it

Bulking and cutting is a meme and disordered eating. You should come up with a target weight and then work towards it, not yo-yo diet like a normie.

I'm at 6.4% BF and have almost no muscles. Literal aushwitz mode. Should i try to gain some fat alongside muscles or try to preserve my BF and build muscles.

Just eat and exercises u nerd

The picture is using the T-word so it's shit

>they used the t-word i'm offended!
>god i wish i were toned
