Calisthenics are the best thing for newbies. You don't have to buy anything, it's hard to hurt yourself and you can build a solid foundation without too much effort. For advanced lifters or fit people it's a mixed bag. A lot of the crazy gymnast shit you see on youtube is probably not practical for most people.
Sport for people who got social anxiety and can't go to the gym without hyperventilating
I like calisthenics but good luck getting big legs that way.
Nah. At least in a gym, you’re around other people doing the same shit as you. Calisthenics involves going to a fucking children’s playground and flipping yourself around like a spastic in the public eye while little Timmy is trying to show his mom he can use the slide all by himself. It’s way more unnerving to do calisthenics than go to the gym.
>Working out in a room is more outgoing than doing some ninja shit at the park
its good for other mode
some movements are god tier, like: pull ups and dips, i use them every workout
or you can get a pullup bar indoors
Goals
I have 5 years to get in shape enough to mog gaston in a pushup contest.
youtu.be
I know gaston is expected to halfrep everything and generally cheat. My plan to do this is via freestanding handstand pushups.
I weigh 170lbs. If I squat with 2pl8, that's 365lbs of weight spread across 2 legs (~182lb per leg).
All I need to do is a single legged squat while holding a 15lb DB to put same load on leg while putting only +15lb of compression on back/spine.
Is my logic wrong here?
imagine that amount of force is created and than has to stop.
It's based
It's cool but it can take a long time to progress to the cool shit unless you're a skeleton.
>I have 5 years to get in shape enough to mog gaston in a pushup contest.
kek, godspeed
it's the best, you look like you're proportional and can do actual cool stuff instead of looking like you can push a boulder a few times in a row.
knew a guy who was in gymnastics and despite being short was always swimming in poon.
he could so easily paralyze himself doing this.
Meme unless on roids
>people who got social anxiety and can't go to the gym without hyperventilating
I literally ran at 5AM when it was dark and did calisthenics in my room everyday because I was too nervous to be seen working out
Finally got the balls to start actually lifting a few months ago and made more size gains than I did in over 2 years of calisthenics
Calisthenics is still cool for some of the core work and balance though (archer pushups, plank, upside down pullups etc)
>2 years of calisthenics
You didn't know how to do calisthenics
>stomach crunches every morning he can do 1000 now
nice
>You didn't know how to do calisthenics
?
pls explain user
If you aren't a lard ass, they are great, but when you are fat and can't do a single pushup, dip or pull up, then muh deadlifts and squats are you for you.
Imagine wanting big legs as a man
they are great but you need an squat rack
pistols
Big legs are manly as fuck, when you see those quads poking out and that powerful squat ass you know you're looking at someone strong
>>manly as fuck
According to your gay ass, I care what my women say, and none of them ever wanted my fucking thighs bigger.
>>know you're looking at someone strong
or fat
The only shit I did at park (other than jogging) are the reverse pushup thing and pushup (them bars are good for your chest gains)
you can't explain this logic to twinks they won't get it
>Does calisthenics
>Doesn't train legs
I bet you're a 150lb skellington
who said I don't train legs faggot? I was simply pointing out having huge ass quads isn't indicative of being strong nor make all the women wet. I kjnow it makes Jow Forums hard, so if thats your thing, go get fat ass quads.
Wall squats with yoga or Soccer ball/skate/ab wheel. Increase load with the thicc books you're surely reading if you're a calichad.
what are you calisthenics routines? Looking for something for someone starting, just doing pushups planks crunches and squats at random rates, need something consistent
user...I hate to be the bearer of bad news....but Gaston is dead. The only thing he’s pushing up now are daisies
I travel a lot and most hotel gyms are garbage, I generally bring my pull-up bar, a set of rings, and a couple hundred “pounds” of resistance bands. Ive found that you can get a decent workout, push-ups/pull-ups/dips/rows, etc. you can do some basic arm and leg work with the bands as well, curls, shrugs, lateral raises, overhead extensions...squats, leg extensions, glute and calf raises. Obviously free weights will be superior from a hypertrophy standpoint but you can definitely train without them. I’d argue that you can even make decent gains up to a point, eventually you’ll probably run out of progressive overload and need to use actual weights.
Please teach me some resistance band exercises.
I'm on the road alot also. Was thinking about getting trx or something.
Useful as an accessory to lifting or towards other goals involving sports and general fitness. Won't give you big muscles like lifting, but if you don't want that, they work fine.
reddit bodyweightfitness recommended routine, unironically.
Later, progress to Bodyweight Evolution and Body by Rings from Daniel Vadnal (FitnessFAQ) on youtube. Just look at the dude on video and you know he knows what he's doing.
>responding to a fattie
It's more like a sport for young'uns and people without disposable income.
Remember Hannibal for King? He was pretty cut for his size but he was also homeless.
Most calisthenic instaguys who are really accomplished come from Eastern Europe.
Perfect addition to weight training routine. Add in some HIIT running and yr good. Calisthenics I think help with recovery too.
Daniel Vadnal is actually smart and supplements his calisthenics with lifting.
Overcoming gravity is best resource for upper body calisthenics. The author also recommends barbell work for lower body.
Calisthenics are for people who like being fit, aka, not Jow Forums powershitters for sure
>he doesn't have a homegym
Look at this faggot
You do progressions until you can do one full pushup, dip etc.
Mostly for squats I believe. And sure, you can do weighted pull ups which are actually quite neat.
I've lost 30 lbs this year just doing calisthenics twice a week and walking my dog.
They're based as fuck
About legs, I think people in general are vastly underestimating some bodyweight exercises.
Try to do one rep of this for example.

The dude from the Thenx program is pretty strong but he ads a weight vest to most of his routine now.
It’s some good shit and you’ll definitely get STRONG and have some nice muscle tone but as far as being big. Nah man.
>pterosaurtakeoff.gif
>easily paralyze himself doing this
elaborate.
