Dealing withtl the Physical Attributes of Protein Powder

Hi Jow Forums
I've been working out only for a few weeks at this point, but I've encountered a big problem. In the mornings when I'm making my protein shake (1 scoop of whey isolate + banana into 2 cups of milk), a significant amount of the powder clings to the side of the blender and I usually end up washing it down the drain while cleaning the blender.

More recently, I determined that it's a waste of powder and money to let that slog go to waste, so I've been scraping it with a spoon and downing it with a gulp of water. This has led to a somewhat interesting discovery. From looking at picture attached, it appears that the clump stuck to the wall has been sufficiently soaked in milk, but somehow evaded the blades to become properly blended. After scraping the clump away though, I've found that there is actually a pocket of regular powder still present, being shielded by the outer layer of milky and sticky powder. This would suggest that this issue occurs right when I'm pouring the powder into the blender.

Still being quite new to lifting, I wanted to know if anyone else here has experienced a similar issue and if so what they did to resolve it. Scraping the powder and swallowing it is possible and viable long term, but isn't really enjoyable to me so I'm open to suggestions here.

You gotta make a diluted shake with the scrapings. Repeat in necessary. It's kind of like an enema, just keep using more water until there are no brown clumps

Just mix with a small amount of water then add everything else in

It was a waste of money the minute you decided to buy protein powder

change the order you put the ingredients in.
I do frozen berries, water, THEN peanut butter (which used to always stick to the sides), THEN protein on top

No more stickies. If I put protein in the bottom, it would somehow always stick to the blades or the sides.

fuck blenders.
get a blender cup. you wont be able to put hard stuff in it though

i use an immersion blending because im not poor and dont have this issue. sorry OP cant relate

first, this is partly a property of you powder, because they dont all get this clumpy, esp if you use unflavored
you might also look for better blenders if yours happens to have a lot of dead spots in the vortex or is just weak in general
third, food is better than powder. consider how much you pay for your whey vs something like greek yogurt (containing whey, casein, and many other nutrients). so you can get rid of powder altogether if you want.

Thanks for the advice, but I can't eat enough calories throughout the day and get 1g of protein per pound of bodyweight. I'm working on eating more, but it's still difficult right now.

lmao, great find fellow scientist!
Just use a spoon to mix it in and blend again

I ran to the same issue as you. However, I came to do conclusion that just swallowing it with water is most cost effective and doesn't require preparation or washing the blender. Also, I buy unflavored powder since it's cheaper.
No clumps and no cleaning when I swallow it and I save money. You might run into the problem with taste but it's very much acquired and takes a bit. For you, you might prefer flavored.
Anyway that's my experience so I just swallow the scoops with water / juice / almond milk (which is actually juice) / milk. If you're already married to your blender, mix in everything else first and make sure you stir the powder for a bit. Also adding in small particles like ground up nuts helps to penetrate the powder. Then using the mixer on high for a minute or two should do it.

1g/lb is too much. just focus on 0.7g/lb and you'll get all the benefits

1g is just because everyone is too brainlet to remember "0.7" so they round up to something easy to calculate in their head.

>be dyel
>start running every other day + eating protein rich meals at caloric deficit

Wut do?

If you recently made a large change in diet, it takes a bit for your digestive system and flora to change. Best thing I ever did was up my water intake, and electrolytes. When all else failed I usually on my rest day drank a ton of fluids, then had a giant coffee with milk and some table sugar.

Watch rich piana's mutant ad, "the shake".

try using warm or hot water, which you pour in before the powder. hot water first, powder second. blend a little bit first, then add rest of ingredients

I’ve been drinking a ton of water too, but still can’t poo in the loo. My gut is used to fatty junk food. I guess it’s confused by the sudden upsurge in hard boiled eggs and grilled salmon. Thanks for the reassurance, user.

put the milk in first

I turn the blender off and get a straw to push it all down to the bottom then I blend it again until its gone

Add a small amount of liquid, I use milk, then add powder to that, then pour the rest over the powder, rinsing it all into the reservoir of milk below. You’re welcome.

Just get a damn shaker cup

I already do this. I am pretty sure the issue is that when I put the powder in some of it floats to the side of the blender cup and gets stuck there for the remainder of time.
I could try mixing the powder with a spoon just to make sure none of it is attached to the walls before blending though.
