For real though, how is planet fitness? It's the only gym anywhere close to me and I'm wondering if I'd be better off just getting my own weights if I wanna start lifting. Pizza and drinks aside I've heard they ding you for dumb shit like grunting and having a water bottle on the floor next to you.
that's actually a pretty smart move so that you will always be back to the gym to get fit and eat again and cycle

it varies quite a bit. they dont really enforce anything at the one i go to.
I've yet to hear anyone get the "Lunk Alarm" and in the 6 months or so I've been a member, and I've never witnessed the pizza or bagels myself. I think they frown on gallon jugs, but a water bottle is no issue. Grunting like a human being is fine, yelling "LIGHT WEIGHT BABY! FUCK!" is not. Dropping a heavy set of dumbbells at your side after a bench set is fine, chucking those 12-pounders across the mat is not. Tank tops yes, nipple exposing alphachad muscle tanks no. No jeans, no boots. Most of it is common sense and human decency.
The equipment is generally fine for someone starting out, who doesn't mind not having access to a real bar. The DBs go up to 75lbs which will last a while. The machines are adequate and generally well maintained. If you really want a bar, there are a few Smith machines to fuck around on. And a thousand cardio machines.
I keep a golds gym membership active, but the planet fitness is maybe a mile from my house so convenience often wins out. If they just had a couple power racks.
The have no barbells, only Smith machines and the dumbbells go to like 50lbs so not great

The one I went to gave no fucks about what you did or screamed. Dumbells went up to 80 lbs, but sadly only smith machines
But it was in a ghetto town so maybe that's why they didnt give a shit.

There were times when I went to gold's straight after work, still in work uniform. That included steel toe boots. Extra couple pounds for the pull-ups I guess
