Going today to my first judo training.

Good luck fren
thanks, buds
have been doing bjj for two months, am finally allowed to go to the sparring sessions/open mats (before this i was only allowed to do positional sparring). Am looking forward to it
Have fun being the nail for a while
Go show em what your made off user!
Anybody got any good infographic type shit like this?
I need more matburn podcasts with Keenan. He needs to stop hanging out with that degenerate Gordon Ryan and get back to San Diego.
i always choke out a new whitebelt lol
>says Maui Thai instead of Muay thai
ITS OVER

Reminder marshal arts dont work
No, es Muy Thái señor
I have a question regarding this, just started going to Muay Thai lessons 2 times a week, is it good to cut down on SS from 3 times a week to 2 times a week or stop completely because it would be contra productive or something?
How do I not be afraid to hit my instructors/classmates?
Ideas for a lifting routine for wrestling? Practices Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays
is overtraining just a cope for bloated meatheads? i lift heavy 3 times a week and take almost no rest days on doing all-day cardio (kickboxing in the morning, skating to and from school all day almost every day of the week, some kind of mild cardio and pushup/pullup/ab work in the evening) and i feel fantastic
I want to start but I don't know which discipline to take up.
I narrowed it down to boxing, Muay Thai or BJJ. The best gyms that compete and have good instructors are BJJ gyms around me, while all striking gym seem a bit less 'legit' if that makes sense. I really want to start just so I can compete and go completely over the top autistic about it and lose my life competing in tournaments and getting my shit pushed in my people better than me so I can get back up and improve.
start with BJJ. If you can find a gym that also teaches wrestling go there. You want BJJ, Wrestling, and Boxing in that order. After that learn a few kicks from taekwondo or muay thai to throw into your bag of tricks. Your base should be BJJ, with enough wrestling and boxing to hold your own.
Obviously not all at once though, right user? I'm going to have trouble balancing powerlifting and BJJ already, let alone throwing boxing into that mix also.
BJJ and wrestling you should learn at the same time. The boxing can come later. I'm a fighter so I'd say fuck powerlifting, but if that's what makes you happy and you have a limited time then take BJJ when you can, and get someone to teach you the basics of shooting, sprawling, and hand fighting from wrestling (there will be a few wrestlers in your BJJ gym I guarantee it). Worry about boxing after you get your blue belt.
Thanks user, I appreciate it. I narrowed it down to 3 gyms near me.
One is a place that teaches like 10 different disciplines, including BJJ, Muay Thai and Wrestling, but since their base is so spread I'm not really sure if that is the way I should go, despite the positive reviews.
The other is a strictly BJJ place with no wrestling or boxing.
The last is a BJJ place primarily but they have an extra class that MMA fundamentals from a few different disciplines such as Thai Boxing, Judo and Jiu-Jutsu.
I feel like the last gym with the BJJ + '''MMA''' addon class is going to be the best. I want to find out if any of their students seriously compete so I'll probably call up all 3 gyms and see what they have to say.
No but thx for this.
I have just started BJJ 2-3 times a week on top of heavy lifting 4 times a week and I'm feeling pretty beat up. My lifts were down today sadly, got any tips? Is it just my body getting used to the new stimulus?
Get hit a few times then move on with your life.
I'll fucking throw you mate. Throw some shitty punch, shoulder throw. Try and kick me, get swept mudafaka. Try and wrestle me I'll fucking choke a bitch. And the buttscooters your day of reckoning shall come. I'll come in and slam and welcome to my fucking jam bruddah.
For me, It went away after a couple classes of stopping punches inches from guy's faces only to be met in return with a flurry of punches to my own. I also started going in with the mentality that you hit to help them learn that they need to fix something to not get hit.
good plan user, train hard and wear your mouth guard!
kinda, but it's more that you're not good enough to not get thrown around and banged up. Take it easy, don't hurt yourself. Being hurt and not training is way worse than progressing slower
Same
Meregali and Cornelius are the biggest fuckin chads in BJJ right now.
Hey. I had my first BJJ class in over 6 years. Went really well. Guys are really nice. I felt like I was going to puke though.
Hope to lose 30 lbs to make it easier over time.
>Keenan Cornelius edition
Based.
>tfw new batch of beginners at bjj gym
You should be able to do both user unless your time is really limited by work/school?
how was it?
why weren't you allowed? is that a gym rule?
lift 2 days a week, wrestle 2 days a week, rest days in between
Merengali looks like he jerks off too hard.
First bjj tournament tomorrow, 8 man division but only 4 are from different schools than me. Coach doesn't let us compete against each other fml. Def should have cut to 182
>thinking you can juggle powerlifting and a martial art
enjoy being mediocre at both
Agreed, Josh is interesting but is definitely the foil of keenis
I will? Id love to be intermediate at both lol
How do you guys do strength training while also doing judo/BJJ ( days a week? I'm having trouble actually gaining weight doing SS. Am I doing way too much cardio to get gains?
5 days a week*
How many days a week?
Don't do ss it's 2019. Also eat more
What do you recommend?
Eat more. Like alot more. I'm doing judo/BJJ 4x a week plus lifting 4x a week and I eat roughly 3000kcal for maintenance.
Meregali is constantly slamming prime puss brah. He's got a reputation for being a playboy and is about as chad as one can be. He looks like a Chad. He's a world champion. Even his BJJ style is Chad as fuck.
I still remember the first time I saw him compete, he did a flying loop choke from top against fucking Lucas Letie while in his half guard. The face he made looking up at the ref for points was fierce.
Nsuns
Do 5/3/1 BBB or Juggernaut Method with 5/3/1 accessories
Reminds me of this.
very few people will ever be advanced at either one so who cares, just do what you want and what you have time for.
havent been to wrestling practice for 2 weeks lol
:)
I missed 2 weeks of boxing class due to gastroenteritis
fuck gastroenteritis
How many days a week should I do BJJ. It seems really tough.
>tfw haven't been to wrestling for 2 weeks because of a combination of ringworm and ear infections
fuck
that sucks man
I worked at a psych hospital and I swear I got a ringworm that will never go away from it.
How do I pass the guard in nogi without getting leglocked? All of my pass sequences are modular beginning with a step into their open guard
Shut the fuck up you're a judoka
For me I roll with heavy training partners
Try for at least 3. I was doing 2 a week and recently bumped up to 3. Im progressing so much quicker with the extra day, plus I’m actually less sore now doing the extra day since I kind of (but not really still) know what I’m doing.
thanks user
I just did one and I need a day off but I'll be back
Now about a month and a half into BJJ. This is addicting. I'm learning so much, and it's a such a rush knowing I'm going to be learning much, much more.
Also got to dab on other white belts when we drill and spar with takedowns since I wrestled through middle and high school
Once I'm satisfied with my knowledge of BJJ, I''ll move on to muay thai, kickboxing, or normal boxing, since I don't know much about striking and have no time or money to do both at the same time
gaining weight almost exclusively means gaining fat
just eat more protein and train and you will get gains as long as you're not 5% bf, you don't need to "gain weight" to build muscle
as opposed to being mediocre in either exclusively lmao at retards who think they're ever gonna be good at a "sport" where people abuse fucking drugs and leverages like crazy
Fuuuu, some blue belt was playing overenthusiastic white belt yesterday, he kneed me in the calf and I can barely walk today.
Still threw him straight into an armbar three times after that. Felt good.
Where is the electric chair or crackhead control?
Just did my second sparring session (boxing). I was way bigger than the dude (98 kg to 80 kg and I had at least six inches on him) but he'd been boxing for 1.5 years and I'd been boxing for one month (although I have a little experience from the distant past). We went for 3 two minute rounds and he tagged me good a couple of times. Afterwards, he helped with a few combos and we hit the heavy bags together. It was nice.
How important are things like running and other forms of cardio for BJJ, especially as a beginner? Gym has become kind of boring, and running is so much fun, especially if I add some stair climbing afterwards. However, I also want to do what's 'best' for BJJ. Any thoughts?
Bump
Worst advice ever.
Do i need to lift to be a good boxer?
krotty is my shit.
No, plenty of good boxers don't lift at all and many boxers believe that lifting actually interferes with boxing. My numbers always take a hit when I box.
If you want to be a boxer, focus on boxing, jump rope, running, and calisthenics.
>June 2019
>Excited to return to nogi BJJ and K1 training after three months of intensive college courses
>First BJJ class, roll with my coach
>I get to mount,he hip bumps me into extending my arm to break fall and avoid a faceplant
>Shoulder dislocates on spot, sling for the 3 following weeks, resumed lifting around August, now afraid to go back to training anything other than weightlifting
How do i cope with the unpredictable nature of martial arts bros ? i really want to train again but i'm scared it'll pop back out and set me back gains wise and training wise
Stop being a pussy you goddamn faggot. BJJ is already the pussiest martial art in existence goddamn you soft cocksucking faggot you know BJJ stands for Blow Job-Jitsu cocksucking homo
what weight class should a 6'1 be aiming for in boxing?
i just want khaboob to lose the fight
Been doing BJJ 1-2 times a week gi and no gi. My fingers are quite sore desu, is this normal while I adjust to the grips in gi or do I just have pathetic finger bones? I've literally only been to about 8 sessions over 5 or 6 weeks
You're a beginner so you're squeezing the shit out of everything. You can tape them if you want.
Dont think theres much point in taping them, do you have any tips? Should I be more conscious about what I'm doing with my fingers/hands when rolling
Also on a serious note what could someone who's talented expect to progress like in BJJ? What would make you say that a new white belt is talented, not getting submitted by higher belts? Or getting submissions on higher belts?
>many boxers believe that lifting actually interferes with boxing
is this true? i feel like this is because lifters generally don’t bother with calisthenics. if you did both strength training and calisthenics for your sport, wouldn’t that be the best of both worlds?
Muhammad Ali never lifted weights and many boxers partially blame Mike Tyson's weightlifting (something he picked up in prison) for turning him into a shittier boxer.
As a boxer, personally I think that it doesn't add much and for a professional, it could take away time and energy that's needed for other stuff. With that said, my opinion is that it's overall pretty neutral as long as you keep it sensible. There are some excellent strong, muscular boxers out there en.wikipedia.org
>Dont think theres much point in taping them
There is but ok.
>Should I be more conscious about what I'm doing with my fingers/hands when rolling
Don't worry about it, it will sort itself out with time.
>What would make you say that a new white belt is talented
When he gets a blue belt, and even then it's not talent, it's just putting in the hours. Don't worry about who taps who.
Thanks mate ur a star
why lol
i dont follow mma at all but i saw a video about his backstory and he seems like a pretty based chechen-resistant violence machine
man
Everyone spazzes out in the beginning, you'll know if he's talented if he progresses at lighting speed.
Caio Terra got his black belt in 3 years IIRC when it usually takes 7 to 9 years of consistent training
Travis Stevens got his in a year and a half but he's an Olympian in Judo so it doesn't really count
idk its boring, always khaboob this khaboob that. i want something fresh
>Muay Thai competition class
>"Alright 200 burpees with pushups now, boys"
>mfw
I love this sport but man I hate burpees
Yall got any advice here? I feel like I've plateau'd in muay thai the past few months. Timing and sparring feel the pretty much the same, with the only improvement having been to my conditioning.
The pad sessions at my gym feel wildly impractical and getting any measure useful advice out of the more experienced guys is rare. Pretty much gotta ask direct questions to get a tip ask, all their attention is spent training the handful of folks in competition.
I just got over a plateau recently in MT after 6 solid months of stagnation
I recently read that growth comes from changing from everything that worked so far
So I started purposefully practicing things I used to be shitty at in sparring and at the bag
For instance, whereas often I used to try and "win" in sparring with things I used to be good at, I focused on a specific thing I wanted to work on in sparring, for example angles and footwork
When someone would march up to me I would stand firm, check, cover up and counter
I then focused on angling out and side or oblique stepping to the dead angle side of my opponents jab and work of off a 45° angle
A movement I practiced on a bag first
That helped me a lot
Good luck and remember, sabai sabai
You will have good and bad sessions, but when you can look back on your former self from months ago and see a difference just through sheer persistance, you have made it
i gotcha. im very very new to giving a shit about combat sports in general so the mega-pros who have been at the top for a while still amaze me
>I get to mount,he hip bumps me into extending my arm to break fall and avoid a faceplant
That's your own fault for being a dumbass. Learn better breakfalls
Cardio good. Do it.
If you wanna compete and not destroy your brain/face then do BJJ. You could always train some striking later on just for fun and extra self defense. Just start training.
Gordon?
