My son has this, he is 6 and I have been told it will get deeper since his father and uncles on his father's side all have it and one of them had to have surgery.

Yeah there's some problems. It's harder to breathe and may show signs of ashma because of a smaller chest capacity. Take your kid to a doctor ASAP though. There are some very minimally invasive procedures that can completely correct it. I wish my parents caught it before the miss procedure was the only option.

Thanks for the heads up. I didn't know they had minimally invasive procedures. I'll talk to the doctor about it. Last time he got checked up the doctor said they couldn't do anything until he was a teen anyways.

Got it done about 2 years ago, one more to go.
I have a terrible scar on my right side because the surgeon gave me an infection and then basically had to leave the open wound to heal after removing the infected tissue to heal. It looks really weird and gross. They said they would make it look better when they take the bars out but my hopes aren't too high about it.
