Are these the best ab exercise?

If the small of your back comes up from the floor it's not an ab exercise anymore

I tried it for the first time last session and it worked my hip flexors so much, and I didnt feel it in my abs as much as simple crunches ... maybe my form is poor tho

why dont you just diddily-doo and squater-rooooo

No, you mom is

Biggest meme exercise. Hardly even works your core, and it can fuck your back. Leg raises, windshield wipers, rollouts, and dragon flags are the best core exercises.

because they don't target it that much

Why do you want to target your abs? Do you want a bigger waist?
Can you even see your abs yet fatty?

a strong core is important for the sport i play

Define strong
Preventing 140kg from folding you in half means you have a strong core, what will some leg raises or ab wheels do?
That's the wrong kind of specificity

what would that be?

coping fat "powerlifter", go cut hambeast

I am cutting you retard, why would you do abs specialisation besides vacuums if you can't even see your fucking abs

Why are you shitting on people trying to workout abs? Just because you skip them doesn't make them any less important.

I dont talk to dyels, I know you dont even 1/2/3/4

Fuck off rippedrone

You realise just because someone trains abs directly doesn't mean that they don't also squat and deadlift?

Not shitting on anyone, just pointing out things that don't make sense
If he needs a strong core for a contact sport why would situps help?

1.25/2.5/4.5/4.5 at 87kg

You realise you're retarded?

Guarantee the “just squat and deadlift” crowd are the same people who post “how do i fix my anterior pelvic tilt” threads

No one ITT said "just squat and deadlift"

Are all my posts

...

You've clearly never played a sport if you don't understand the importance of core strength. Fuck off outta here, faggot.

There absolutely is. Core exercises like leg raises which directly train the core are the best ways to strengthen it. This strength is then translated to the sport; e.g. in football it helps with balance and in tackling or blocking.

Maybe I shouldn't have said leg raises because they're pretty based if your lower back is still on the floor (not curved)

A leg raise won't make you stronger at anything besides leg raises though. The specificity is too high.
Squats and diddlies are non-specific enough while still making your core stronger

Am I the only one who does this? I call them mexican twists. Great for core stability and overload. You grab a plate and raise your legs like a russian twist. I call them mexicans because in Russians you go side to side, here you go south to north.

post body or stfu

I tried these but went back to high hand crunches and leg lifts. Maybe try leg lifts with some ankle weights. Does Walmart have ankle weights?

He's right you fucking retard. Except 140kg isn't that strong.

>Leg raises
>Back on floor
Please leave this thread.
Also, regarding specificity, that is just not true. When you do e.g. rotator cuffs, does that translate only to strengthening that specific movement? Absolutely not. Likewise with all core exercises, they will improve your overall core strength, which as mentioned above, is needed in every sport.

If you have a 300kg DL and then decide to add in ab exercises -- you think your core is going to get stronger?

Well guys like Brian Alsruhe do weighted hanging leg raises and windshield wipers

Are you saying you have a stronger core and thus better performance in your sport than a guy who squats and deadlifts 3-4pl8 with no ab work while you only do situps and leg raises?

Yes, retard.

Core strength is important for all major lifts. My core was lagging behind and it caused me to have bad form on deadlift which led to injury

These lifts in less than two years
No core work

No, I'm saying a guy who squats and deadlifts 3-4pl8 and also does ab work (should do more than just situps and leg raises) will have a stronger core and thus better performance than a guy who squats and deadlifts 3-4pl8.
What about that is difficult to comprehend?

It was lagging behind because of your shitty form. Deadlift does not need any assistance work for the average male until they are pulling 405x5

>a guy who squats and deadlifts 3-4pl8 and also does ab work
This was not the point of contention

The original post I replied to was and also indirectly, so unless you are illiterate, it should be pretty clear that it is the point of contention. Your question, as it is written, had no relevance to any of my posts, since I am just arguing for doing ab work, not for replacing squats and deadlifts with ab work.

Objectively best ab/core exercises:

1. Hanging knee raises or leg raises
2. Oblique crunches
3. Planks
Plain planks are not great. Add variety like going on one elbow then the other for 15-30 seconds
4. TRX jack-knifes
5. Ab roller

/EOT

Now shut up and do them, wimps.

Dragon flags, leg raises, and hanging windshield wipers. Good luck.

planks

No this is the best

If youre not hanging from a bar, youre not really working

COPE. Good luck with your injuries

I'm pretty sure almost no one has a strong enough core to do these.

What about leg lifts on a dip stand and roll outs?
