what are Jow Forums's thoughts on kettlebells?

I'm thinking of getting a couple just to do some functional training on my days off since I mostly train with a barbell at the gym

>this is the ideal fitness equipment
>you may not like it but this what peak functionality looks like

Now this is
/KSG/ - Kettlebell Sport General (Girevoy Sport)

Kettlebell sport is endurance sport. It was developed in USSR in 60's to popularize Olympic weightlifting and to prepare young men for big sports and army and was organized as an independent sport in 80's.

Kettlebell competition consists of two events, you either perform kettlebell biathlon or long cycle. Biathlon consists of
1) 10 min for maximum reps of double kettlebell jerk
2) 10 min for maximum reps of single kettlebell snatch

Long cycle is 10 min for maximum reps of double kettlebell clean and jerk.

For example, if your bodyweight is 85 kg and you want to achieve Master of Sports rank in long cycle you must perform 69 cleans and jerks with two 32 kg kettlebells.

Kettlebell athletes through their carrier usually switch between biathlon and long cycle.

I have that hamplanets body

Let me guess, you heard something bad about functional training and you regurgitate shit you have no idea about.

FAQ
1) What is this sport good for?
First of all this sport is good for overall cardiovascular health. It is good for developing lower body strength endurance and conditioning. This is why this sport is used in russian army for preparing and testing soldiers (along with running of course)

Kettlebel sport is also highly respected among russian wrestlers and fighters. Here International Class Master of Sports in sambo does very ugly kettlebell jerks for conditioning:

Freestyle wrestling coach teaches children to do snatches and presses

Boxers use them

This sport is also good for burning fat and that's the reason why average gymbro may be interested in it.

Also this sport have very low injury rates.

You can use snatches and jerks for conditioning (Jim Wendler often points to how importnat conditioning is), and if you have no sled for dragging, you can use kettlebells. See MythicalStrength does swings as part of his conditioning
youtube.com/watch?v=JP2oA6-5EJQ

Heavy kettlebell snatches are also VERY GOOD for grip endurance and strength.

2) What is this sport bad for?
Honestly, if you not utilize upper body GPP, you will not gain muscles in upper body. However you should do your GPP to be good in sport and here is good example of Denis Vasilev who does shit tons of dips, push ups and close grip bench presses and his upper body looks decent
instagram.com/p/Bl2OgTChFLr/
Also kettlebell athletes use barbell deadlifts, squats and presses for GPP.

souce?

please, go ahead and tell me the benefits of "functional strength".
You make a living throwing shit up the air?

3) Why not simply use dumbbells?
While you 100% can use dumbbells to perform snatches and jerks, it is hard to get good rest position where you can relax a little bit so you can perform lot of repetitions and use dumbbells for training endurance. For example resting position that utilized in jerk

4) Kettlebells are expensive for my home gym.
Sorry to hear it. Here in Russia second hand kettlebells are very cheap, their cost is like 30-40 dollars for one.

5) Kettlebell sport is so fucking boring.
This is kinda true. But to my taste all endurance sports are boring.

Appreciate your effort бpaтaн but better pick vids in English or at least with subs. Or you're copypasting this from 2ch/fiz/?

No, this is not copypasta from 2ch, I wrote this some months ago and post here sometimes

>Also this sport have very low injury rates.
I can see it, barbell power cleans fuck up my wrists while with the kettlebells as I see the arm is in a neutral position

Notice it has only 30s rest between sets so it will look like regular conditioning.

Superb posts, looks like a lot of fun. Will try.

Fucking skipping leg day.

wrong

do either longcycle with 32's or biathlon with 32kg
no need to thank me, you'll be prayin to jesus to take u home

How do I achieve this mode

I know this user, and I know about all this "KB fitness vs Girevoy Sport" story. Girevoy Sport is great, but that workout is good for overall endurance and it's easier to perform

Eat pierogi

I enjoy using kettlebells for walking lunges and back extensions.
Dumbells will rub against my legs too much when I do walking lunges, but kettlebells feel much better.
I can get a really stable grip on a single kettlebell when doing back extensions by picking up the ketllebell in the starting position, flipping it upside down and cupping it in my hands.
Just little fixes like this make each rep feel much smoother.

You can't, this is just regular slav body

would kettlebells be good for condition using light weight? i hate running so fucking much.

Yes, it's ok. But also think about rowing. You can also do both kettlebells and rowing

Soviet tier steroid

I have a 10kg kettlebell. Use it in a weight training where you hold it behind your head and then pull it upwards. Great for shoulder and triceps

They make you look like OP's pic. So if you want to look like OP, use kettlebells

Is this a thing?

That's jason blaha's body kek

im doing canditos intermediate program and am worried about recovery more then anything. Will i be able to get away with it is my concern
