Empathy doesn't change because you are Fi or Fe.
Both the Fi and Fe user is putting themselves in somebody's else shoes, you can argue there's a little difference here:
Fi tries to relate to something personal even if it wasn't experienced, more like just relating to a similar feel you can understand. They see a person crying and think how they feel when they cry. That kinda sounds selfish but it really isn't.
Fe tries to relate to the feel itself without putting any single subjective aspect, they see a person cry and they just copy it in order to empathize. That kinda sounds fake but it really isn't.

Fe is exactly "extraverted feeling", where the extraverted attitude in Jungian's terms is related to being "objective".
Fi likewise is "introverted feeling" and the attitude here is "subjective".

By "Fe doesn't put themselves" I mean that the way they use empathy is about seeing the feeling objectively, comparing it with others, mimic it themselves and try to forget more subjective interpretations. Because of that, the Fe user can have difficulty understanding something that is expressed way too subjectively and can misjudge Fi users because their feelings can look "bad" when they go against the established forms.

Fi instead sees a feeling and tries to relate it to something similar that both could or have already felt, they try to put aside every common interpretation of the feeling because they want to grasp a "true form" independent from anything else. Because of that, the Fi user can severly overthink and fail to grasp the objective form of said feeling because they went too personal, can lead to misjudge Fe users for missing their "true desires".
