I have a pectus excavatum and I always considered myself like a subhuman, a genetical error for it, not only it ruins my chest but it also advance my shoulders and it ruins my capacities of breathing well for running or making any kind of efforts, I'm never at 100% of my capacities because of it, I want to start boxing but I'm afraid of hits at my chest who could make me more vulnerable.
What should I do? I'm afraid of the operation, I heard there is a new one better called "pectus up" but living during 3 years with a steel bar inside me is not very pleasant, I'm still limited to do stuff with the bar inside? Is there alternative solutions?
Not op but pectus user here We are susceptible to depression because of body image issues Also it's pretty common in general Every time I go to the beach or a pool or whatever I see at least one if not several other guys with it

dylan klebold, 1/2 of the columbine shooters also had it, coincidence? nah LOLLL

I did the surgery about 9 years ago and i am so glad OP. My chest will never be perfect, but holy shit is it so much better. The bar was in me for 3 years and I still have it tucked away in my closet.
I’ll be honest though, it was about 6 months of hell after the surgery but after that it was ok. I couldn’t play tennis anymore though until I got the bar out.
Nicholas Garcia
Hey same poster here, I’ll add that I was able to start lifting after 6 months. It was just the quick sudden movements in tennis caused me pain.

What is the genetic factor who make the cartilages being longer?
Colton Cooper
I have it too dude i know your pain. My chest will never look right and ive actually gotten pretty jacked so it sucks. Mine may not be as bad as most though. I would say if yours is serious then have it checked out and see if you can get insurance to cover it. Itll be worth it in the long run and the earlier you do it the better
Nolan Murphy
So should I do it with new method called Pectus Up? What are the things you can't do with the bar during the three years? Boxing for exemple? Is there a risk of dying during the operation?
Eli Clark
Holy shit not op but my names Will and I have pectus. WHO ARE YOU

I’m not sure what pectus up is. I don’t think it was around when I had it done. I got the Nuss procedure. You can watch videos of it being performed on YouTube. It looks pretty barbaric, but I don’t think there is a huge risk of any compilations during the surgery. They definitely didn’t tell me there was a chance of me dying or anything.
I’d go see a doctor and talk about options. I saw a couple of different surgeons until I found one I trusted and liked.
Jayden Moore
Oh and boxing is probably out of the question, I don’t think you can risk getting punched where the bar is attached to your ribs.
Luis Gonzalez
Pectus Excavatum isn't actually genetic. It's basically randomly occurring depending on how fast you grow during puberty
Here is Pectus Up, invented in Spain: m.youtube.com/watch?v=Sz-ex-U5z4Y It seems less barbaric don't you think? My grandfather from my mom side had it, and I get it.
Henry Lee
In some cases it's pre natal but in most cases (mild) its non genetic
Elijah Cooper
Definitely looks like it’s less work on the body, but the result seems the same with having the bar there attached to your ribs.
It’s ultimately up to you.

I have it to you aren’t a subhuman Pectus brother Take it the stoic philosophy don’t worry about things you can’t control we didn’t choose for our chest to be like this but we have to cope it could be worse
Is this just the deformity or it is with Marfan's Syndrome? I would be extremely careful about any sport that could cause you to take shots in the chest without talking to a specialist about it first, regardless.
Thomas Nguyen
Why would someone that had an hole in his chest not get it fixed? That has to severely limit your capabilities, just do it.
James Peterson
I had the surgery in 2007. Back then there were 2 options: Ravich procedure and Nuss bar. My surgeon says that the Ravich is the most painful surgery he preforms but that is what he recomended. Bro, the pain is indescribable. Like....it is worse than I ever could have imagined. Worth it in the end though. Mine was so severe insurance actually paid for it because it was messing up my heart.

This is me .

>Had mild carintum >Got surgery to fix it back when I was a dumbfuck teenager >Didn't go to physical therapy because at the time all they were doing was to teach me to stand up right >Mfw I kept slouching when staning/sitting and my surgery healed itself into mild pectus
