Am i the only one who thinks that STEM is really overrated and most STEM degrees are just as useless as meme degrees ?

Yes, you are a brainlet. Next thread, please.

Oh yeah being an engineer is just as memeable as feminist dance therapy. Nice one user

I didn't said all STEM ,did i?

it's okay user just because you're to retarded to get into a stem program doesn't mean your worthless, don't worry

60% of stem grads do not work in a stem field.
I would not say they are useless, and they are respected on a resume, but they are not a magic bullet as some are told

Overrated? Yes. Useless? No.

I do feel like some STEM people got a stick up their bum. Same goes for all academics though, where it's really at is the trades. My younger brother finished his electricians apprenticeship a couple of months ago. He saved up as much money as I've got in student loans during his apprenticeship, and now that he's making bank, he's talking of building a house. Working a trade is hard and honest work, being a student (students (sans doctorate students) aren't academics, nor are they intellectuals by virtue of studying) does not make one superior to tradesmen.

t. history major.

God I wish Inhadnt rpruined my life and knew how to get into a trade when I was 18. I enjoy studying on my own then in class anyways, but now I am way to old to start a physical job.

/sci/ here,
>Am i the only one who thinks that STEM is really overrated and
I don't know about this. But we have more STEM grads than we do jobs for them (at least in the US). Even in my field (astrophysics), most of my colleagues (even the ones with PhDs) either ended up as professors, school teachers, or still in retail.
>most STEM degrees are just as useless as meme degrees ?
Most STEM fields aren't very profitable and rarely incur any kind of meaningful funding. So, you're likely going to be just as poor as you were before (perhaps more because of student debt).

in stem it's really the t and e that get you good money.

Cry more idiot, 60 percent of STEM grads work in STEM, 15 percent as teachers, and 15 percent as managers. Only a small fraction work in retail

As a physicist I must say degrees like biology and chemistry are useless simple bullshit, engineering is manual labour for people who can count to ten, and computer science is a scam. We do all they do (except stamp collecting in biology) and better in general.

Of course if you highly specialise you will be the top dog in whatever field and your degree doesn't matter for that, but on average if you're not doing physics you're doing ez shit.

Your emotion is out of place here

What if I'm looking to be a research professor in paleontology then? It might not be the most difficult or useful work, but I pursue it for a love of the field. Old dead things are just neat.

>Be me
>Average Chemistry grad
>Working in a test lab as a junior lab assisstant
>Literally the base level job
>Being paid 25k$+benefits (not dental) + life insurance and housing and transport
>Literally don't have to deal with one person if I file my reports on time and can come to work in fucking parka hoods or cargo shorts.
>Listen to podcasts all day while mixing shit and placing it in machines to press buttons and print reports
>8% wage increase per year and 27% when I crack my certification exams and can hold a floor (usually takes 3 years)

Tell me how any of this is not a dream

Okay,this sounds actually pretty good

70% unemployment for recent stem majors a few years back, not sure now though.

No one has ever heard of an unemployed accountant

You must haven't met my cousin sister or her brother.

Source for that 70%?

Depends on what exactly you are doing that is STEM related, but just getting a STEM degree hasnt been a golden ticket for decades. You can thank the baby boomers for that.
Sounds nice, whats it like being a lab assistant?

Lab's open for 9 to 7. But my work is based on samples cleared instead of work hours and about 6 hrs are mandatory in in absence of samples so I can come in at 9, do wok quick and leave at 3 or chill around, come in at 11 and leave at 7 (8 hrs max). 5 day. 2 15min coffee breaks (I don't drink coffee so just break) and 1 hour lunch time (30 minutes but if you have no samples, you can frolic around). Most days I don't even take lunch so 7 hour work day. Gave me 5000$ bonus to get a car when I joined in exchange for 1 year no quit contract so I took it and bought Emonda ALR frame, Shimano105 groupset and zipp wheels with a recycled carbon handlebar quick release groupset pair for road/triathlon configuration

Its just take a sample. Apply preliminary tests. Grade it. Place it in pass box. Wait for it to be sorted, stabilized and delivered back as barcoded ones so source becomes untraceable. Run the basic tests first then any specific tests if needed and do NMR/AAS/IR/UV/GC-MS or Flame photometry and print the results and put them in outgoing mail so that they can be certified and presented to customer. You learn all in 1 month and then just literally Rinse (Good Lab Practices) and repeat

70% seems too high but I definitely wouldn't doubt 30% combined new grad unemployment + underemployment

What are any of those

Accountants with degree looking for job in the market and failing to find it and thus trying to get in the government.

Starting my internship for Chemical/Paper Engineering next week lads. Just keep at it and your efforts will pay off

Imma chemical engineer too man. Working in the oil refinery extension. What's your base of work?

degrees are overrated and for low iq wageslaves

You should be doctor

Imma business owner

I'll have my day

I need to turn off my injuries but I'm a simple robot

Undergrad stem degree with no postgrad is just as good as undergrad english degree

Living the life. Good luck with your career, user.

I'll be working in the pulp and paper industry

I was going to argue against that, but honestly you are probably right.i can't think of a job that you can get with a degree that doesn't end in wage slavery.

but i'm also a brainlet so i could be totally wrong
