ThinkPads are literal garbage. Many models require you to REMOVE THE KEYBOARD to upgrade the RAM.
Compare that to an Elitebook or Dell Precision which have a magnesium backplate which you can unlatch to get access to:

I acknowledge thinkpad's flaws. The problem with those are the screens are even shittier with no IPS option and the keyboard isn't as good on Elitebooks. Haven't tried Dell's though.
I have both a HP 2570p and x230t and I prefer the thinkpad for these reasons.

It's on T models from T410 or T420 onward, on all other models you have 2 ram slots under the backplate even with the T series you still have access to 1 slot without removing the keyboard, and even if you have to remove the keyboard it's literally 2-3 screws. But you're right that having both slots available would be nicer, I don't know why they decided a mini pcie would be better than a ram slot.
What are elitebook equivalents of something like t420 or x200?
