What happened to Southern California? It has huge industries, amazing weather and lots of innovations and it's still a shit hole. It has such huge potential to be an amazing place to live in yet they fucked it up how did this happen?

celebrities and super rich drove up the price and san diego became the back up for LA for the non famous and mildly rich
Don't rich ppl live in separate parts of the city though like Beverly Hills user? Also is there even enough rich ppl to move up property prices, isn't it more about the building code making it super expensive and hard to build new buildings?
Imagine if the state allowed people to build those tiny apartments you see in east asia, but with only a sewer and water connection. Electricity could be optional and the rent could be unimaginably low, so the only homeless people would be ones who want to be. Charities could build structures specifically for this and transfer ownership to the occupants and permanently solve this problem.
The trade off is it would be a massive slum but more humane and sanitary than living in the streets. It would be an improvement no matter what. But no, can't let people voluntarily assume liability. People complain about apartments with bugs and mold but it's better than living in a gutter or a tent complex. Plus they could get an address to help find employment.
they still drove up the price like crazy
demand is what made it expensive
Why not just build cities like European ones? They are dense, but very nice at the same time. Instead cities like LA has memed suburban sprawl which causes prices to be sky high, lots of traffic and it limits economic growth
So why not increase the supply then, by making regulations more lax?
I'm not familiar with European cities, what are they like? Any examples? Do you mean the commie blocks I've heard of? They aren't a bad idea actually but too expensive for charities to reliably build and fix the homeless/slum problem. The problem I just thought of is if we increased supply of housing, the demand will grow in response as population increases. The more desirable and affordable California is, the more people live here, making the problem worse in the long run. It will inevitably become a dystopian megacity.
thats called the suburbs mate anywhere near resources is expensive
>I'm not familiar with European cities, what are they like?
If I generalize a bit
>more dense
>less of a car culture
>better public transportation
>non-gridlock design
>lots of churches
>mix used (offices, stores and living can all be in the same building)
>thinner and cozier streets
>closer to nature because there's less suburban sprawl
>lots of pretty historical buildings
Etc
>Do you mean the commie blocks I've heard of
Commie blocks are outside of the city and in the suburbs
> The more desirable and affordable California is, the more people live here, making the problem worse in the long run. It will inevitably become a dystopian megacity.
Tokyo is a mega city without any homeless problems, the streets are clean and safe even though it's dense af
Where do I park my suv?
>biggest contributor to the US economy
>this apparently isnt living up to its full potential
can you cunts do like a single google search before you make threads?

Shanghai has 34 million people, no homeless, it's clean, and has an amazing subway system, all 2 wheel motorized vehicles are electric and many cars too.
Yeah really as a Southern California inhabitant I find it ironic when Outsiders call this place a shithole, yet it is statistically one of the most desirable places on Earth to live. Sounds more like jealousy than anything else
Everything is in walking distance and there's good public transportation so you don't need a car
I hate to say it but uh, Japan and China are ethnically and culturally homogeneous. I don't think it would ever work in California even if it became totally colonized by Mexicans since they have varying degrees of native blood that often separates their communities. South Americans are often looked down on (rightfully in my opinion).
>less car culture
>better public transportation
These alone would be massive improvements. The church thing makes me think. When I visited Pasadena there were like 10 churches in a 2 mile radius and the area was so clean and nice. A few payday loan areas, if you know what I mean, and some grungy people, but it felt safe and clean in comparison to LA.
I went to the LA zoo and the people were more fascinating than the animals. It was a nice experiment but I think it's time to just wipe the slate clean and start fresh there. I sincerely hope a few nukes get lobbed at LA, SF, Sacramento, and maybe Fresno too.
Why are there homeless people and crime everywhere in SoCal then user?
TV and movies made everyone want to live there
LA was in fact many small cities that merged together over time
>nuke LA
>nuke silicon valley
>US economy fails
You might have a sub 90IQ
Mexicans thought it sounded like it should be a Mexican city so they annexed it. Pussy white people moved out and drove up real estate all across the country since they want to Californicate the country
No one in Silicon Valley is irreplaceable. Google, Apple, and Facebook are located in California as well. Taking them out would be a service to mankind. It would be better to nuke LA for being a Mexican outpost, SF for being a hive of faggotry and chinks, Sacramento for being a bureaucratic nightmare. Fresno and the valley should be spared because of the food supply though, more important than treasonous billionaires and their army of soilords.
You sound like a whiny broke bitch who has no shine and no puss lmao
California spent billions on a bullet train project that didn't even get off the ground. Id blame liberal regulations for that one.
>no shine
Why yes, I'm not bald.
>no puss
Why yes, I'm not a woman.
>whiny broke bitch
I don't speak nigger. Shouldn't you be gearing up for to protect your hood from all the Surenos, Tyrone? Don't let them do you like Compton.
>Only contributes the most cause it's fucking huge and has tons of people
Move to India bro, they contribute too
When you can't walk on the sidewalk because of homeless peoples tents then i call it a shithole, what does contributing to the economy has to do with how shit of a place it is to live in?
This.
Sounds like heaven. All dogs go to heaven.
>US economy fails
lmao, imagine being such a brainlet seeing everything in black and white. The US will be severely impacted, but will recover in not even five years. Nothing lasts forever.
The US economy would fail if California, Texas, New York, Chicago, Seattle and Miami all vanished together, yes, probably.
developers would just sell them for hundreds of thousands of dollars
LA isn't that expensive
The problem with california in general is the lack of a middle class. Californian cities are bifurcated between rich whites on the one hand and poor minorities on the other.
What actually makes a city prosperous is a robust middle class (aka average whites).
All the hippies moved there and had children.
LA is fucking shit but the suburbs are actually kind of nice
