It was a benefit. Now overall it's a detriment. But you need to redefine internet a bit, or allow us where things can be changed to improve. The absolute worst of the internet:

Honestly nuke most social media off the face of the earth and suddenly internet is good again like the days it was mostly niche internet fora. There's a lot of great stuff, online shopping, knowledge sharing, finding communities. But the competitiveness, dick comparing and validation farming increasing by the year have fucked things hard.

It depends from which point of view you look at it, your values and idea of good and bad.
I, personally, am on the fence. I greatly enjoy the wonders of the internet, but I have lost touch with my own sensations to some degree. Sometimes I'd stare at the sea or tiny bugs doing bug things and imagine how it must be to now know shit. Not know why the sea is in motion or how the ants organize their labor, just watch them and be amazed by them. Be amazed by nature, by the wind, the warm summer days and the cold winter nights.
Maybe if we used our bodies more and our minds less we'd get more enjoyment out of life, even if we experience less comfort and more danger.
