So my dog was about 16 years old, we've had a great time and all but he got cancer and has been slowly dying. I've been trying to make him comfortable and such but it's gotten to the point where he can't stand without pain so I talked with my mom making sure she was ok if I put him down. She was ok with it so I took him out back, gave him a tin of his favorite food, and then stabbed him in the neck to make sure he died quickly. My mom is now going insane because she thought I was going to take him to the vet to have him put down.
I think he'd rather have me do it than get caged and taken to the vet to die. What does r9k think?
Yeah you know the vet can come to you, I had my dog put down in her favourite position with hugs and she went out painlessly.
Adrian Garcia
It's over and there's no sense in worrying about it but if it makes you feel better, putting him down at home was a comfortable option for him. Taking him to a vet would have caused unnecessary pain from moving and bills. Not only that but being taken to an unfamiliar place such as a vet would have probably stressed him out. Euthanasia is more peaceful though and you have to get through all of the above to get to it. You did the right thing though, you cared about your dog and got rid of his pain as soon as you could.
Christian Walker
Although it is a bit weird nowadays, I think you are right. Not only did you love him (contrary to the vet), but you gave him a far better treatment than what he would have received. It must have been hard user. I wish you the best.
Eli Collins
Fuck my mom told everyone in my family and basically all the men say I'm right and all the women are calling me a murderer
Aiden Bell
Of course the women are going to think that. Despite being the "emotional" thinker, they are completely devoid of feelings and will just take into account that you killed your dog, nothing more nothing less.
Robert Green
You know for the longest time I tried to ignore it but what the fuck? Why isn't the vet considered a dog murderer?
Colton Gutierrez
I live in the country and have had to put down pets. It sucks, but sometimes you have to do it. The last one was my wife's cat. I had him in his cat bed on the porch out in the sun and used a rag soaked in ether to put him to sleep.
Ryan Rogers
I'm a woman and I don't think OP is a murderer it's more likely that his female relatives are dog nuts who think even euthanasia is murder because wE DoNt dEsErVe dOgS and le doggo pupper should get cancer treatment costing tens of thousands of dollars. I've observed this sort of behavior in both men and women.
Jason Allen
Sorry you had to do it to em buddeh. I think it's this. I love my boy but I'm not going to get him chemo at 16. Better to send him off like a good friend imo
Angel Sanders
Well you're here so you're reasonable
Julian Hernandez
Dont ever use that cringe spongebob meme again
Luke Gonzalez
they are fucking retards. It's the same outcome, you saved money and dogs hate going to the vet.
Nathaniel Gray
Here's the thing you don't get:
Dogs don't understand chemical sedation. They DO, on the other hand, understand "pointy shit hurts me when it goes through my skin".
If you had taken him to the vet, he would have fallen asleep and then his heart would have been stopped without him knowing it. Because you didn't do that, instead his experience of death was the FUCKING INEXPLICABLE event of his master stabbing him in the fucking neck with a pointy thing.
If I offered you a choice between dying in your sleep with no idea what was going on, and dying because one of the only people in the world you loved and trusted dragged you into a basement and fed you feet-first into a wood chipper, which would you choose?
Jeremiah Baker
Shut up faggot and stop trying to make him feel bad, severing the mainline to your consciousness is the complete opposite to being shredded ground up and you know it
Colton Collins
But think about it, he has shown a valid opinion towards the issue yet you are being a faggot about it
Anthony Rogers
Brutal user. Dont act like you didnt want to kill that thing from the start. You were just waiting for your chance since childhood. You are born killer, user.
Nah, I've seen people suicide on those drugs and they can definitely tell something is wrong.
Ian Nguyen
Assuming you have knowledge on where the dogs main arteries are I see no problem.
Ryder Fisher
I think you did the right thing its the hardest thing in the world to put your pet down. When y dog got cancer we took him to the vet to see about treatment and the vet said itd be the best solution to put him down (He a probably right). But my story beside you probably shouldve clarified with your mom
Benjamin Davis
So no one is going to talk about the fact that he stabbed his dog to death? A dog that spent 16 years of it's life loving him with all of it's heart, suddenly and brutally attacked and sent to the void in pain... No one? You all deserve to be stabbed to death.
-not a woman
Ayden Roberts
>stabbed him in the neck Good Lord, banning guns was a mistake. Why shouldn't we be able to put down our oet quickly and easily with a .22 instead of stabbing in the neck.
Jesus Christ dude, imagine you fucked it up even slightly, your dog is confused as fuck as to why it's caregiver is attacking it with lethal force, it's terrified, bleeding, and possibly trying to defend itself. Now youre in a knife fight with a dog who ought to be your best, most trusting friend and loving member of your family.
Quick .22 to the head is more humane. Just having him look across the river, talk about tending the rabbits......
Having been through this twice though, I would have preferred you went to the vet. Lift dog gently into and out of car, give em nice treats, lay down on vet table and he gets a peaceful drug overdose and just goes to sleep softly, then permanently as you pat his head and scratch his ears, holding his hand. And you don't have to stab him in the fucking neck, good Lord man
I hunt a lot and I know how to put something down quickly my dog did not suffer needlessly The gun might have scared him the knife is quicker and quieter
Anthony Perry
Gun would've scared other people but not the dog if you put the bullet where it ought to go, no?
I mean, getting shot in the head... Is it even possible to hear it coming? Are you referring to pointing, cocking the firearm? I always thought it'd be like in Old Yeller, most humane way
Sebastian Wilson
I'm honestly not sure how smart he is but I think he knows what happens to things that I point the gun at. Also yeah firing my gun in the backyard would have gotten someone startled it was night time
Ian Phillips
I can back this up, as long as animals are paying attention they'll understand what guns do. I have a horse and he hangs around my target area when I shoot BB guns and you can tell that he knows what to expect every time. It's really fascinating to watch him sit and look at me shooting and the targets get shot. This also goes for spears/bows, if I draw back an arrow or hold a spear back he'll stop watching me and check out the target to watch it get hit.
