Why do so many people wear glasses?

i was at work (i am a programmer) and noticed that 3/4 of people there wear glasses

i looked it up, and 61% of people today wear glasses or contacts. that's the majority

why do so many fucking people wear glasses?

once, a guy acted all surprised when i told him i don't wear contacts. "nope, it's just my normal vision"

is it dysgenics? was human eyesight always so bad? is it environment? hmmm

dude what the heck. do you never leave your room? shut in NEET incel detected

smartphones are making people nearsighted you dumb fuck

t. too poor to buy a smartphone

Probably because of our heavy usage of screens, especially given your line of work. It is probably no further than that.

I was born with severe nearsightedness. When I had glasses as a boy, my prescription was something like 120-43. Meaning, what most could see from 120 feet away I needed to be 43 feet away to see. I have contacts now but that is only because I just don't like how I look with glasses.

Most people now adays grow up sitting one atom away from a TV, computer screen and now phone at all times and go outside and exercise once in their life because there was a power cut at the time.

>shut in NEET incel detected
normalfaggot wagiecuck who slobbers jewish dick detected

It's genetic. I never used screens as a kid, we didn't have a pc at home or anything, I watched some tv but very limited, I did read a lot, but so did my dad. Everyone in my family starts wearing when they're like 25 or 30, sometimes a bit later. Sadly, I inherited my great, great mother's gene and got a shitty myopic as fuck vision from birth. I also got the small dick from who knows who, big nose and hardcore acnea from my parternal side too.

most people who wear glasses got them as kids

>I was born with severe nearsightedness

then it had nothing to do with screens

>staring at screens 10 hours a day for work and leisure is natural

Could you sound any more like a plebbit normie faggot? Get off my board

I'm not saying that mine was caused by screens. I am saying that screens can be a contributing factor to some.

We read a lot more than we used to. The higher education the higher chance of having nearsightedness. About 90% people in my class in medschool wear glasses or contacts.

it depends. if it's < 2 diopeters its due to genetic factors causing increased brain growth/higher IQ. if it's > 2 it's because of staying indoors and reading

I'm using screen 14 hours a day for 25+ years, still perfect vision. It's genetics.

>i was at work (i am a programmer) and noticed that 3/4 of people there wear glasses
>is it environment?
Probably your work environment. Staring at screens and straining your eyes 40 hrs a week.

Lots of people suggesting screens and tech is the problem and that may be so, but only tangentially. The main cause is actually a lack of exposure to bright sunlight during childhood, it causes a concentration of growth hormones in the eyes which lengthens them. It's a real shame that so many people are ignorant to this as forcing kids to play outside resolves both childhood obesity and eyesight problems.

wrong, i'm extremely myopic and was outside 8+ hours a day as a kid enjoying the long summer days. the main cause is genes which cause high iq/brain growth cause myopia as well. again this only applies to diopters less than 2

>It is also known that myopia is associated with higher IQ (see Cohn et al. 1988 for a review). Empirically, it does not appear that this association is caused by a greater degree of "nearwork" (e.g., reading) in higher IQ subjects. Furthermore, behavior genetic studies point to a clear genetic influence on variance in ocular refraction (Cohn et al. 1988). In contrast to the situation for height and IQ, the myopia/IQ association is also found within families. Cohn et al. (1988) showed that higher IQ siblings also tend to have a greater degree of myopia, even though the lower IQ siblings tended to spend more time studying and read more books on average. A pleiotropic relationship, in which genetic influences on IQ also influence the incidence of myopia, would appear to be the most likely explanation in this case.

>Nonverbal IQ may be an independent risk factor of myopia, and this relationship may not be explained merely by increased reading (books per week) among myopes. An interesting observation is that nonverbal IQ may be a stronger risk factor for myopia compared with books read per week.

People live a lot longer now, a larger portion of the population is 50+, therefore a larger portion of the population wears glasses than did previously. Once you hit 50 your eyesight goes down the drain. Both my parents had perfect vision until their 50s and they both need reading glasses now.

Its the screen light vs natural sunlight. Sunlight actually helps vision stay healthy.

Obviously shit genes can't be fixed by some sunlight.

Yes, UV radiation is very healthy and good for your eyes.

Some UV radiation is better than no UV radiation is better than a lot of UV radiation.

I read somewhere that a relatively small amount of UV radiation "stimulates" the body enough to improve it, similar to how not washing your hands all the time will make your immune system stronger.

actually it's near infrared light

valtsus.blogspot.com/2017/05/the-therapeutic-effects-of-red-and-near.html

a very good read. i bought a $5 device (the power cord was $7 lol) and i notice a difference. i use it for energy though

selftestable.com/red-light

m8, UV radiation destroys your cells on a chemical level.

Not a problem for me. While I have better than 20/20 vision I love me some qt glasses girls.

Roughly 80% of China wears glasses, and only 40% of Australia wears glasses. It has to do with spending too much time inside- if you don't see the sky enough, it doesn't stimulate your eyes to produce dopamine, which would have the effect of keeping them spherical. As your eyeballs become oblate, you develop myopia.

Extensive phonefaggotry has made me nearsighted.

considering an increase in literacy is directly related to an increase in nearsightedness it is reasonable to assume that extensive screen use has similar effects to extensive book use.

>tfw used to have perfect vision until 16, then it slowly started to degrade
I didn't even start to use screens more often at that point, no idea why it just started then. Now i wear contacts. It sucks, i wish i had perfect vision again

staying inside / constantly on computers is destroying peoples vision
this "trait" is then passed down from parent to child

Yep. No pain, no gain.

A quick search yields this: sciencelearn.org.nz/resources/1304-positive-and-negative-effects-of-uv

>have perfect vision but still complain
oh poor you

Wear frames without glasses. That way, you'll look better and people won't think you're a fraud.

>myopia is associated with higher intellect
>tfw nearsighted as hell and red/green colorblind
>tfw too intelligent for proper unaided eyesight

People who work with screens are obviously going to be more prone to vision problems as are people who read a lot.

Some people are just genetically unlucky. I have deteriorating vision in only one eye. I only need my glasses for driving but I wear them all the time because I always used to forget.

Because modern society allowed genetic trash to keep on going. But nature is slowly correcting itself; see all you weak, mentally impaired incels getting ejected out the gene pool at a steady pace. You're welcome.

I think its common for your vision to become worse with age.

tfw born a retard

I see a lot of council estate gutter rats without glasses and they're what comes to mind when I think "genetic trash".

Good thing nature isn't as retarded as you are, eh?

>only top genetic quality people reproduce

top fucking kek. fuck off, roastie

Obviously you've not spent any time in a council estate.

cuz glasses are the future of computers
