Dark Souls I would probably just play on my Windows dual boot but I heard Doom has good Linux support because it uses Vulkan

Nah it's kinda late in its life cycle now
I think I'm going with Doom 4 since it seems like fun to try to set up for gnu/linux
When you do I'd recommend starting with either Debian or any of the Ubuntu versions (Xubuntu is pretty good if you'd like to use XFCE)

yea i have installed a few on a VM and Debian was the easiest
gentoo took me 4 or 5 times to install correctly
