Did you rewatch NGE like everybody else?

Did you rewatch NGE like everybody else?
Has your opinion of it changed? (or what did you think about it if it was your first time)

I never finished it, but I did like it.

>Did you rewatch NGE like everybody else?
no because i dont use normflix nor do i care for the movies, the rebuilds or anything else including this, the original show is perfect as it is and doesn't need to be touched desu

Is Netflix's translation bad? I don't even remember anything since I watched Evangelion when I was really young.
I wanted to watch it for a while but never had time, and watching it from Netflix would be easy af but I heard they changed music and stuff

I mean I watched it for the first time only about 5 months ago so no

They did not pay to have fly me to the moon at the end of episodes. Some of the translations changes how scenes are portrayed. kaworu says "I like you" instead of "I love you" is one of the more blatant changes.

Oh okay then. I'll just use KissAnime... Thanks

I think I like it more than the last time I watched it, I'm enjoying the proper parts now,.

NGE is a pile of humongous shit

Never seen NGE
The only thing I know about is it that it has mech fights and the MC jerks off on a girl thats in the hospital

So overall it doesnt seem like the kind of show id like

One of the original VAs (Tiffany Grant) said that Khara micromanaged the retranslation and fucked up the meanings. An example on the old ADV dub commentary was that Gainax had tried to "correct" the translated "3rd Child" back to "the 3rd Children" when speaking in the singular, to which they were told that the English language doesn't work like that. Even in the first episode you hear that Khara didn't let that one go in the new translation and you get the Engrish that translates words instead of the meanings. Khara obviously had other issues in the translation, the whole faggy Carl thing in Episode 24 looks like a serious fuck up, but I haven't had the time to watch the whole redub yet. Eva 3.0 had the same issue with a finished (but only theatrically released) English dub having to be 100% redone due to alleged poor translation. This now appears to have more context as absolute micromanagement.

NGE is a classic my man, you can argue how good it was, but it's the most influential anime of the 90s, if not the most influential anime since its release. It's one of my top 5.

It's not ideal as a sub, but it's acceptable for a first time viewer. If you want the true experience in a sub, look at Sephirotic's version/rip of the Japanese BD release. Otherwise enjoy the netflix.

For the dub, neither dub is really strong over another. I prefer the ADV performance from nostalgia, and the new Netflix Misato VA is fucking awful. I don't like the dialouge in the new one ("be a big boy") and the main cast performance is very strong. The ADV dub does have some poor side character voices, and some poor choices by Amanda Winn-Lee in the translation/adaptation (Kaji's last scene, ketchup sounds in EoE). I can't speak to all the new dub for it's translation. Also, Fly Me to the Moon is shit, so anyone complain is just nitpicking, no one wants to hear that shit. GL

its a show about aliens and also while being a mecha its has been dubed as 'the deconstruction of the mecha genre'

Nah I watched rahxephon instead

Damn user that's a lot of writing. I'll respect your knowledge and watch Sephirotic's version since I'm sub-only
Thank you for spending that much of a effort for me ^-^

Ask your question, I'm an Eva Enthusiast, but not a perfect expert. Evageeks gets alot of shit on /a/ for the forum, but the wiki has alot of great factual information if you need to know more. Otherwise, there may be some Engrish in the Seph subs, but there's an obvious difference between reading and hearing a line. Any sub watcher can decipher the strange syntax from Jap-English translations.

You had me until "Fly me to the moon is shit"

>Eva Enthusiast, but not a perfect expert.
Yeah I noticed lol

What's your honest opinion on the series?

NGE + EoE is my second favorite anime series, but it's an aquired taste. The "intellecutals" will jerk off over the "great character moments"in the series, and the interrelationships. There is certainly that, but to a first time viewer it isn't really something that stands out. Where the show really picks up is Episode 16 on through 24, where is gets really dark and heady. Prior to this, you have the world building, the character building, and then some moster of the week shit, complete with an episode that has half its runtime as a replay clipshow. There's important things in episodes 1-15, especially the directorial techniques, but again, nothing a first time viewer would really write home about if they aren't sold on the series. 16 and forward is the darker side where, especially in the dub, if you haven't paid enough attention, things start happening that are really confusing, and if you have paid attention, things really start to come together/fall apart, depending on how you'd phrase it. It's a very heady show with a very simple message at this point, and it spends alot of time looking at it's characters through their own minds, and the minds of others. In the end, Eva is a show about the characters with the plot and setting being the framing to put these characters in situations, and see how they react, grow, falter, etc. I like the plot, but that's a matter of opinion. I'm not a mecha fanatic, so I can't speak to that, but there's alot of really good mech and tech from the viewpoint of guys in 1995 trying to guess tech in 2015.

Looking at it as a fan, it's still an enigma in some ways, and some still debate the meaning of certain things, though the main ideas are agreed upon generally. It'd be a solid 8-9/10 because of the drag of alot of the episodes without the love of an established fan, but the psychological themes and questions boosts this (NGE and EoE) to a 10/10 for me, because it's something that is few and far between in the genre.

Episode 19 is one of the best I've seen in any anime.

Most influential anime of the 90s and all time is DBZ bruh

Damn you're getting an A++ for this user, nice to see some fan that's not going mindlessly "oh it's perfect"
I was just about to sleep (52 hours awake) and this was a nice read before bed
I kind of couldn't comprehend, but I'll read it again after waking up. Thank you again and good night

If the threads still up I can answer questions, otherwise you can contact me on my blog at @Jow Forums

Influential doesn't mean popular. NGE changed how anime was created and produced, and greatly changed how adult animation was created and marketed, marking a shift from OVAs to adult and otaku anime appearing on television. You also see greater creative control given to showrunners and the immediate explosion of the "greats" in anime in the late 90s, like Cosby Bebop and intellectual masturbation like Lain. Experimentation was now a more accepted risk in greenlighting anime.

Overrated shit for the pseudointellectuals and pseudoelite weebs. Hurr durr NGE is sooo deep.

>Influential doesn't mean popular
This is funny because what NGE has going for it it's exactly that, being popular.

that image kek
>turn on tv
>half naked teens twerking and shit

>show about hormonal teenagers
>god forbid they show any sexuality
welp, a jew must have wrote that

NGE is actually a really incel anime

it's been 10 years. i wonder if i still like it.

Was a huge nerd of it til just a few months ago. Series is good, not the masterpiece that a lot of people praises it to be, but is good (and this comes from a guy who can't stand anime). Hugely influential both for good (it opened the doors to more adult themes in anime) and bad (they still make figurines of 14 y-o girls in bikini, so yeah).

It's no deconstruction as someone would say: the director simply was a geek of the mecha and kaiju genre and decided to make a series with a core and straight message ("take care of yourself") and then add some cool mecha fights and imagery. So no, it's not that ""deep"". They literally repeat the message over and over through expository dialogue. The story may be a little intricate, yes, but that's not the appeal of the series so who cares.

End of Evangelion is not that good, by the way. I respect it from an author perspective as a middle-finger of Anno to the Evangelion fanbase of that time (it's not like it has grown to a more mature one since then neither), but as a film it tries very hard to be this grandiose thing, desperate to impact the audience, with no trace of the elegance of the series. I got the impression that Anno figured out that the fanbase of Eva would eat whatever shit with its name printed on it, and the existence of the Rebuild movies does nothing but reaffirm this theory of mine.

Anyway, if someone's seeing for the first time have a fun time with it, and don't look too deep into it!

dont watch nge on netflix anons, they cut out songs and probably a lot of other stuff too
torrent it, watch it in japanese with english subtitles, and have a better viewing experience than normalcattle who dont deserve this masterpiece anyway

>and probably a lot of other stuff too
Nope, just the ending song

I loved it when I watched it 6 years ago, but now I just couldn't make it past the second episode. Not only is it boring as fuck, it also feels so fucking dumb. The more I watched it, the dumber it got, and no matter how much I remembered that it was good and that later on things "get good" everything felt fucking stupid.
So no OP, I couldn't re-watch Evangelion and now I think it's a very boring and dumb anime.

...

That made kaworufags angry it seems

Plus Shinji also had a very heavy handed confession of love to Asuka in EoE, despite that not being the original line as all. Machine translation of Eva is a mistake.

holy fuck it like an angry virgin ape writed that pile of shit and he get paid for it
Everything nowdays is just pure bait bad criticism shit.

Nothing in that criticism is incorrect, Eva ruining anime with their fanservice crap has been a thing since I remember.

>Eva started fanservice
>implying Eva is even in the trashier 50% of fanservice shows

literal brainlet, go watch an anime more your speed, a baby anime like lucky star

Yes, it is bad af. They arent sexualized victims, they are just kids with different personalities and their sexual expression are acording to it, the jokes are innocents. Love interest is part of a normal development and its well expressed in the anime.
Shinji even reject Asuka at some point, for his insecurity / awkward personality.
Yes, fanservice is just part from anime. Gook off.

DBZ influenced most shounen/youth oriented anime, which comprises the majority of anime.

Jokes aren't innocent, peak of it being the opening scene from EoE, what a hilarious wank wasn't it

I watched some analyisis time ago of that and you can say its because Shinji always want validition. Asuka was passedout and he want to feel something but theres not possible communication, so he reccours to his basic instincts to connect to her.
Its very weak and lazy just to say "yeah they are victims"
Anyways the sickfuck writer didnt watch that movie but what ever

Yes. The first time I watched it I think I was about 16. I thought it war pretentious and confusing.

I re-watched it again while I was literally in a place both mentally and physically and I related a lot more. And I don't know why I thought it was confusing the first time. The story seemed pretty straight forward to me the second time. Probably because I was a dumb 16 year old.

>I re-watched it again while I was literally in a place both mentally and physically

forgot to finish that thought.

I watched it when I was in a place mentally and physically similar to Shinji.

>I watched some analyisis time ago of that and you can say its because Shinji always want validition.
lmao, no wonder you think the piece was bad. It took the shitty fanservice for what it was instead of doing some mental jerking off to pretend it was about the deep psychology of the characters

>I had some guy on youtube spoonfeed me his wrong interpretation

FUCK NORMFLIX AND FUCK NORMALFAGS

so how do you explain the cries and anxiety while he call her? and the sadness after his orgasm? Its just random scenes?
> it was about the deep psychology of the characters
Stop using big words to be scared. Its just a serie, user.

Evangelion is great. Overthink anything and it will be shitty, but Evangelion made me feel things I'd never felt before.

>Its just random scenes?
No, it's fanservice

> Asuka I need you, let me jerk off over your tits
The disgust after his orgasm is explainable, it's the orgasm what isn't.

Fanservice is when you just show a character sexuality without context or justification. Like the milf walking around in towels or living all the girls together with shinji.

>The disgust after his orgasm is explainable
She was on coma. Theres reason to cry. How is a disgust reaction a fanservice?
