Overall reddit is very bad.

I'm openly anti-Reddit on Jow Forums but I'll admit I do use it myself. I don't have an account I regularly use but I do frequently visit specific subreddits for news pertaining to interests of mine. And once every 1-2 years I'll make an account to ask a question I wouldn't be able to get answered on Jow Forums. There are a bunch of reasons I think Reddit sucks:

Let's say, on the crochet subreddit I assume exists, somebody asks a question. NIGGER_KILLER_1488 hops in and posts a long, insightful, helpful series of tips. People will judge the quality of his post by his username, and he'll likely be downvoted and banned. If some meme Reddit e-celebrity joins the conversation with a shitpost, he'll be voted to the top. People will spend real money 'gilding' his post. Despite contributing nothing, in the scales of the voting system, his contribution will be considered more valid. Also, people look through each others' posts to find ammo to end arguments instead of attacking each others' arguments themselves.

I'll check the rules and the posting guidelines. I'll make my post following these, with the title clearly stating the question, and the contents of the post containing enough information that those trying to help me understand what I need without waffling on for too long. I'll triple-check my post, something I wouldn't typically do on Jow Forums. I go AFK. I come back, and learn that, apparently, 65% of people who voted on my post decided it didn't belong there. Were they downvoting me in an attempt to draw more attention to their own post, or did they decide, somehow, that my question wasn't worth asking? I don't know. Meanwhile, off-topic posts and memes have a much higher ratio of upvotes to downvotes. Reddit users appear to think that upvoting means 'that made me giggle' and downvoting means 'that wasn't funny'.

If I recall correctly, which I likely don't, Reddit was founded on the idea of freedom of speech. Jow Forums wasn't. As far as I can tell, Jow Forums, despite its owner and staff stating that Jow Forums isn't a place to go to for freedom of speech, is more tolerant of dissenting opinions than Reddit.

Reddit has some redeeming qualities but most aren't anything that any other site could achieve. Its high user count means it's a good place to go for a variety of opinions (assume the WRONG opinions don't get downvoted into obscurity). This high user count also means there are communities dedicated to alI kinds of topics. And its voting system, while flawed, does often result in people compiling useful FAQs and guides. Although they're often flawed and contain bad information, they're nowhere near as bad for this as smelly Indians are with their awful YouTube tutorials.

It was founded ostensibly as a community driven enterprise i.e. mods would let the people decide what to post and wouldn't ban or censor anything unless it was illegal. In fact, even as recently as 2012 the then CEO made a very explicit statement in favour of this idea:

Now it's been completely subverted by shit-tier progressive politics and bans/censors anything that the liberals who run the site don't like.
