i like the athenian golden age and the late stage roman republic the most, followed by feudal japan. I also like reading about the history of computing, especially the development of unix. Love how tight-knit the community was in developing unix, just a bunch of phd guys writing software to make each other's lives easier.

there were a few notable females in computer science early on, but i think it has always been mostly male dominated. There's a greater proportion of women working in computer science now than there has ever been actually. The reading I've done is mostly about the 70s and 80s of software development, and the cool part is that the primary sources are still alive, so it's cool seeing the history of stuff i use as a programmer today be told by the people who made that history. It's a good period to be alive to experience computer history.

I'm learning more about japanese history as i learn more japanese, would be cool to read some japanese history in the japanese language next year when i'm more knowledgeable.
