Most work is done on Windows. A lot of the rest is done on VMs. Not many workstations run Linux on bare metal, if only due to lack of software.

Multi-day rendering, physics simulations, running complex databases, running multiple VMs that are doing lots of calculations all the time...
Those are just a few things I can think of that you want reliability for.
Imagine being 1 day into rendering, and the machine shits itself because of an overclocking induced error. People usually aren't overclocking servers and workstations.

Workstations don't need to actually use professional hardware. An i7 might have been more than enough for what his needs are. He's running VMs after all. There's no reason to have your dev environment be bare metal, or your main OS.
Either way, OP clearly didn't build his computer for gaming, so the 1050ti and 4k monitor make perfect sense. You wouldn't game on a 5k iMac with a mobile GPU either after all.

Ill always stick with 1440p 144hz. My eyesight is shit enough where even at an arms length i cant tell the difference between medium and ultra unless its major like water, but the framerate is very noticable.
Also its the best thing i can do with a 2080 anyways

Hi, I always have a vm open that is allocated 8GB and I also never close chrome tabs. Always at around 20 something GB of used ram. I used to have 16GB but I would have to constantly have to go into "tab closing sprees" to keep the computer from freezing.
