I have a system, a system that if I was only drinking I would be drinking myself into oblivion. I start drinking first, work up to a slight buzz(which are something like maybe 3-4 tallboys equivalent) then take a couple of puffs of the weed, but since I already have alcohol in my system the weed will kick in harder. Then I chill with a can of beer, finish that and then smoke again and then open another can and do this till i pass out but try to reduce the alcohol intake in the meanwhile.
You see the weed slows me down and takes away the need to get totally plastered.
Also I sometimes go outside if I'm only drinking because it makes me want to socialize and I can get into some fucked up situations and blackout downtown or at a bar.
