You have great taste! And you're right, I can't really find myself on the political compass because all the ideologies kind of blur together for me. Great thread OP
Bizarre ideas are part of science, in fact science isnt really about proving things right so much as it is proving them wrong. If we keep trying in every way possible to prove something isnt true, we either prove withoutna shadow of a doubt that it is true, or prove that it isnt and learn something new. This is why i enjoy michio, he goes beyond what we know and says things with zero proof behind them but also could exist 100% within physics. Looking at what we know isnt how we advance and learn.
>Dostojevski
Crime and Punishment, Brothers Karamazov, or just in general? Solid pick regardless. I have ADHD too but it just caused me to read six books at a time lmao

Well PF got me into lots of prog as a result and I settled on prog pop ultimately. I like really long songs with unique time signatures that are still somewhat danceable. Huge fan of synthy stuff.
As for philosophy i transitioned from nihilism to absurdism and pic related helped that.i think in part it's because my life is a sequence of simultaneously tragic and unbelievable freak accidents. you're definitely not a pleb, user! desu i left out some of the other things i was into because i thought it would be embarrassing to note that i liked giallo and sexplotation films of the 1960s/70s, as well as 50s easy listening, and the fact that im a jojofag and big fantasy reader...yeah i have really erratic tastes that go all over the board i suppose
>Giallo
So like Dario Argento? I only know the basics of the genre but it's pretty interesting. Italian I think?
JoJo is cool. I'm obsessed with SBR in particular.
Yeah iktf about being erratic, I've read and listened to and watched thousands of things but I always feel like it's never enough and my knowledge is only surface level. I envy people who can stick to one particular theme or genre and just research the fuck out of it.
>So like Dario Argento? I only know the basics of the genre but it's pretty interesting. Italian I think?
he was more of a straight horror director, giallo is more pulp crime mysteries and slashers. but yes, italian!
>JoJo is cool. I'm obsessed with SBR in particular.
SBR and VA are my favorite parts, but DIU is thoroughly enjoyable too. i know saying you like VA is controversial, but ignoring the ending it's pretty perfect.
>Yeah iktf about being erratic, I've read and listened to and watched thousands of things but I always feel like it's never enough and my knowledge is only surface level. I envy people who can stick to one particular theme or genre and just research the fuck out of it.
i can get pretty autistic about certain things, while enjoying other genres/subjects/etc on a surface level. i think i'm so obsessed with learning intricate details about things because as a writer and an artist, i gain inspiration from every little thing. so i can pretty much enjoy most things, or at least learn something from the experience of indulging in it. besides, i find people like you who dip their toes in many things more interesting!
>as a writer and an artist
i've never made the claims of being deep and pretentious. in fact, the art i make is weebshit and the stuff i write is just fantasy genre stuff, nothing profound about that

who was your favorite character?? mine died, too, but not very early on. but i think all artists struggle with feeling like a hack or not liking their own work, we're very self critical on ourselves. but also, most creators tend to be imitation composites of all their influences, the ones that are undetected are the ones who have more sources of inspiration. i definitely feel you on the competitiveness though, it scares me from pursuing an actual career in art because i know that i can't compare in the field lol

I've had a lot of visions, heard the voices of spirits. One story in particular was during a really cold winter I heard the voice of a demon telling me that if I went outside he would kill me. Since that point I've grown a lot in understanding this stuff and even made contact on my own terms with other spirits.

Let me guess, runs in your family? I'm from a Catholic upbringing myself, probably the reason I'm so adamant on some form of intelligent design and the possibility of an afterlife.
abbacchio is so based, i recently drew a few sketches (plus a lazy painting) of him. and honestly, no matter what you produce there will be people calling you pretentious, a hack, etc. but you just have to express the kind of stories that you want to express for you. because you have this need to let your ideas out there, and if you're into it there's a good chance other people are too...because we're never unique enough to be the ONLY people into certain themes, details, etc. i, for one, also love detailed work, ambiguous characters (multiple protagonist work, or at least a work with deuteragonists, are always preferred), and what not also. plus books like house of leaves do this, and are considered masterpieces, so there's definitely an audience for that sort of thing! you just have to hope that the people who are meant to like it, will like it, and disregard the opinions of those who it's not meant for (people who like definitive protagonists or clear story structures).
>runs in the family
Yes and no. I was brought up in it, but most of my theology was self taught. I consider myself more religious than either of my parents, my mom especially. I guess I would say she ascribes to the kind of neoliberal brand of Christianity, which, in my opinion, is more for show than anything else.

This and No Longer Human are masterpieces of how depression and suicidal urges manifest. I've struggled with both before I even knew what they were and i think it might be from the repeated bullying I got as a kid. Like at twelve i would often think about climbing to the tallest building and just plunging off it to see what happens. I'm not scared of death now as much as infatuated with the concept. Because it's a logical conundrum. The universe is supposedly finite, so once it collapses, did any of this happen?Without humans, does the universe exist? If so, how would anybody know? Does another universe blink into being? It's all so perplexing to me. I've also noticed from personal experience that brain damage can speed up your perception of time. And i was thinking that consciousness could essentially reach infinite speeds in the absence of brain matter, assuming it isn't just bound by the cerebral cortex. So losing your body means you might just teleport instantly to a point in time where the variables for your consciousness manifest again, and life repeats infinitely. Which is equally bizarre but theoretically possible according to quantum mechanics and Lawrence Krauss' nothing. Sorry for the rambling. Life kinda drives me insane how complex it is. Or maybe our brains are creating complexity where there is none? I need to lay off the caffeine lmao
