A few months back I was walking behind a guy on the sidewalk and he was sort of dressed like the joker in this movie; he even had the long hair and was carrying a half-open umbrella in one hand and a backpack by one of the straps in the other. He was listening to music too and sort of bobbing his head from side to side and almost skipping as he walked. At one point I swear he jumped up and almost clicked his heels, both feet were off the ground. There was also a car at an intersection and he stopped for it and did a sort of flourished "after you" type gesture, after which his confidence seemed to be bolstered and he began skipping and bobbing his head more aggressively. I am certain that he was intentionally rping this character.

I dunno. Taxi Driver was a great movie in a lot of ways because it wasn't afraid to show you how much of a shithead Travis Bickle was. Like, He was the exact kind of degenerate he claimed to despise, yet you could still relate to his loneliness and feel for the guy when he fucks up. The character was layered, is what i'm poorly explaining. The Joker in this movie, at least from the trails i've seen, is just a pure and innocent victim character who "rises up" against all the meanies who abused him in some cathartic revenge fantasy. It looks very, very simplistic for a character piece in this vein. I hope i'm wrong, though.
