my dad said so long as i really focus on studying, he'll cover me and to otherwise just keep my focus directed on studying. i might pick up a summer job, but not sure. i have to relearn clarinet coming off of bass clarinet and that has me occupied right now. it sounds silly but it's actually a lot harder than it sounds and i try to practice for at least 5 hours a day

Yeah. I went from being one of the worst in the band on clarinet to being top 16 in the state of Texas on bass. College dudes are all over what I got and are being really accommodating, but I don't want to just be slightly above average, you know?
I like it because I have a really good horn with a really beautiful sound, but I still have really long skeleton fingers and it's hard to cover the open hole keys.
they're kind of taken for granted, but they actually play a really major role in coloring the sound. most orchestras only employ 3 to 4, so they have to work really hard to keep up

Yes. As of right now, I'm generally trying to get my fingers back in check so I've been going through old tryout etudes in half time at about 60 bpm and just monitoring my fingers and embouchure so that I'm building muscle memory properly. slow scales as well, but i take more liberty with my scales in terms of tempo so i can see how my fingers react to different speeds without build bad habits and get my thumb and ring fingers adapted. once my fingers get naturalized, i'll start chunking the etudes into thirds at 60 in normal time, then the whole piece at 60, then back to chunks at 65 and the whole piece at 65 and so on. also before that i make sure i can center all of my pitches on a tuner and do some interval work and focus on starting with just the right amount of air compression behind the reed to work on control.

that's about it for the most part. i usually break things down by the beat or measure for now so i can work on specific transitions though.

Yeah. Grainger does a lot of cool stuff with clarinet choir and actually wrote parts for alto clarinet and even gave it a solo in the third movement of Lincolnshire Posy, so he's got some good stuff. Also Mock Morris has some fun clarinet stuff and a bass clarinet solo.

I buy cheap clarinets off of goodwill on the regular, dbh. If you wanted to you could probably pick up a buffet student horn for about 50 bucks tops including shipping. Even if you decide it's not your thing, you can turn that over for at least 100 dollars. The piece is pretty great though. It's slow but powerful and just kind of has presence.

Ahhhh that's tempting. The problem is I suck in general right now from lack of practice and need to focus on one instrument at a time.
