If the person is judged to be responsible, (knows that posting things like nudes on the Internet has huge ramifications, doesn't get distracted as much, etc), sure.

I got mine at 15 and I loved having it. Felt about the right age for me. Just be wary of it causing the child to become more reclusive, as that affected me. If they are not emotionally stable, I'll consider pushing it back. If they're involved with extracurricular activities I'll consider pushing it forwards. That's my opinions on it for when I have kids.

I got mine at 21.

At the end of grade school, 14 years. However, since schools (at least where I live) are increasingly pushing the use of electronics in education ("bring your own device" and shit like that), this could be hard in practice.

I'd say somewhere around 14-16, depends though. If they are interested in tech and aren't super rebellious cunts i'd probably let my kids have a tablet / ipod touch or something earlier like 12 or so... smartphone I would restrict them to wifi at first, no mobile data, use it as a disciplinary system of sorts.. have a separate wifi for the kids and cut them off if necessary, I guess that kind of "network admin" thing is way beyond the reach of most parents though, their kids probably know more about routers at age 14 then they do

Just give them a crappy one when they turn 14-15 and if they are responsible maybe 13 but that’s if they prove themselves like doing chores and things around the house but that’s the lowest I would go I got my first one at 12 and it was honestly worthless and probably hurt more than helped

Summer before they start middle school should be ok, I guess it depends on how responsible of a kid you think they are.

Only smart children should be allowed to have smartphones. Dumb children should only need a basic cellphone, because that's all they will be able to make good use of.

Think of the first time you saw porn as a child and how badly you wanted it. If you didn't want it very badly, you can add about a year onto the age at which a kid should get a smartphone. If you really wanted to get a hold of your daddys playboys, then maybe reel it back in a year. That was the most important function of smartphones/computers to me for years. Probably from 12 onward would be a decent age if you don't mind your kid ending up here.
