The reality is based on interactions of things, be it chemicals or eletricity or people. Being real isnt being material, isnt being solid or capable of thinking, being real is to be remembered, is to be discussed and to have emotions connected to some being. The fictional novel that moved hearts, made people happy and/or sad, that made even that sad person not commit suicide that one time, to later be a animal caretaker, that novel is the most real one.
Not that the biography isn't, but its less real, in other words, its real for fewer people, moves less emotion.

The thing about it I think is, that Benjamin Franklin was probably more honest about it than the other people who wrote biographies about him, because he admitted that what he wrote was merely his opinion. In the sense that everything written is swayed by this, biographies tend to be fantastical in their own way, but it's often pretended that they aren't.
Does something have to be real to change the lives of many, anyway? I guess it depends on how you see and what is real.

The way I see it, neither of them are real beyond being real words on real paper. But then, I don't put too much stock or concern into what's real or not in that sense anyway. The fantasy that's honestly fantasy is more important in this scenario.

I agree that reality would be casuality, so would that which has the largest effect over all be the most real? Is real that which no longer is, then whatever happened in the biography would have to have zero relevance today, which is unlikely. Could it then be measured which had the largest effect, not only on the human mind (as memory is) but over all. Or are we only talking in terms of impact on humans, I would say no. But you ultimately again touch on what "real" even is, would a memory of something happening (even if shared by many) make that event more real? I don't know.

As we don't qualify realness is quantity, do we? If so we might also say that jupiter is more real than mercury. Because, as you say, it would leave a large emotional impact on many people - but we still can't stay one of these books is more real than the other, can we? Even though the chain of events described in the fantasy might not have actually happened in the way described, I'm sure the author has had inspiration from many sources. It also bakes the question whether or not the idea in itself is real, some say the idea in itself is the true form of reality. But I think when people use the world real when describing an event that might have happened that way in comparising with a fictional novel they might not use the word the same way I use it.
