Recently I found the flash drive I backed everything up to and discovered I forgot to delete everything from the flash drive. Inside I found a ton of music and TONS of porn but I also found his discharge papers from the AF stating he was court martialed and dishonorably discharged for POSESSION OF CHILD PORN. He was in intelligence and evidently spent time in Leavenworth. What kind of sick fucking pervert dishonors the military by hitting up little girls all the while being a complete idiot knowing you're in intelligence so you're under the microscope constantly?
I'm now very concerned about this flash drive being in my possession as I don't know if it has child porn on it.
What should I do with it?
Should I turn it into the police so they can investigate it?
Should I just wipe it?
Should I send the pictures to his wife?

The district sent a psychiatrist to my home to do an evaluation on me. 3 days later I was 86'd from the school, expelled from the district and the psych told them I was incredibly dangerous because my family owned guns, I knew where the ammunition was and they aren't locked up. After I got my notice of expulsion the FBI came and knocked on our door and seized all my hard drives and electronics. They said they didn't find anything concerning outside of things that are publicly available but they also informed me I was labelled a domestic terrorist and would be placed on a watch list.
The ironic part? The very next year that school had a real bomb threat and a real school shooter ready to do it. He got caught because he sent a buddy the "don't come to school tomorrow" text. They were looking at the wrong person.
I think I'd rather just turn it over and not take the risk.

They did. I use to coordinate heavily with my LT to try to stay one step ahead just by thinking like how a terrorist would. Where would I hide a bomb? Where would I put an IED on a road? How would I ensure my escape? Where would I go? How am I going to get there? Where am I going to get the material for my bombs? What would be the best trigger mechanism? Are there any household chemicals I know of that could be used to make a bomb?

Legal user here. Our firm refuses to work with pedos so admittedly I don't know much about the laws surrounding it (especially since you're in a different state). If you burn the hard drive it could be tampering with evidence because you are destroying it with the intent to conceal it from the police to prevent a potential investigation. The police are normally pretty chill in my experience when it comes to people turning in evidence, most times they're happy to not only have incriminating evidence, but also someone to testify in court. The drive is currently in your possession, however, from what you've said the actual files should prove they were put on the drive before it was in your possession, along with the personal information also implying it is his, You'll probably investigated and questioned (either as witness or suspect) but if you're honest you should be cleared pretty easily. In most cases the police are more interested in putting a pedo in jail than jailing some rando who just came accross it. Mailing it with no address sounds really strange to me and if the police traced it back to you they'd definitly treat you as a suspect (why go through all that trouble if you have no liability). Hope this helped, and obviously get other opinions.

I don't know whether to believe you're a legal user or not but you seem to make a lot of sense. The drive is mine but I can prove the files were taken from another computer and all the files aren't mine. There's tons of pictures of him with girls and the files are even labelled with his name which corroborates with the documents on the drive. I'd definitely testify in court and be open and honest with the police as to the situation but I'm concerned about them trying to seize my computer equipment thinking that I'm trying to pull some shit.

You may want to go to a local lawyer first since he may have a way to turn it in or negotiate with the police on your behalf if they do accuse you (also he'll be much more familiar with the local laws). Of course, that costs money. The lawyer may be able to get your friend to sign a statement saying that the drive is his, but that would make your friend suspicious and also doesn't prove the things on the drive are his. This is a little overkill, but if you're really concerned you can check out the option. Tell the police the whole story and they'll probably believe you after checking the files. If they make you a suspect they might seize your computers, but if they do, don't resist (and don't have anything incriminating).
