I'd argue that lingua franca is actually a debuff since it makes it so that it's harder to know more than one language, anyone without that trait gets a 50% boost in learning the current lingua franca.

Learning languages expands the mind and getting a boost in any language is a huge advantage.
+knowing a natives language of someone who doesn't expect you to know it gives huge rep boosts with him.
