this comand one is to check devices and ips conected to the router.
other comands are for:
checking conected servers (exemple unix),
check router ports, check devices ports,
check others conected to your device.
ps: there are also specific programs and obvious for difrent os.

secondly the ip must be of your lan x.x.x.* for -sL, 0/24 (24 is a class) (check your ip class if A,B,C,D,..)
to check your pc ip lan and mac adress: ifconfig
to check your router ip is another.

ofcorse they start with that
the dhcp will allways give the first 3 houses and change the last to all in the same lan
and obviously not repeat them unless is fucked up
even if you atribute static (fixed) ips, they have that (you can only change 4 house.

Not really, you can assign LAN IP's which don't begin with 192.168.
For example, in the network I used to work in, the IP's started with 10.41.
I mean, for the case where you have it in the default it works wonders but not all networks are like this.

Also, that will work in the case where you haven't occupied all 255 slots. In a bigger network, you will have to change the other 'houses' as well to get more addresses.
