You might be conflating a few things, but you're not entirely wrong. Monkey mind is the uncontrolled inner speech that detracts from your conscious efforts. It's kind of a first level trap post self-awareness. There are people who aren't even at that point yet. Aside from that, it's very possible and, to varying degrees, beneficial to conduct a healthy discourse with that inner speech.
