I can do most of those to good extent I just think my problem is I don’t apply it as well on the mat. I’ve always had a stronger chest than legs that I can feel correlates to freestyle and folkstyle well. Depends how much you wanna spend and how much sword play you want.
I've fought EMP, SCA, HEMA, Battle of the Nations and shinai(sp?) but those are all armored and either rattan or live steel. The average helmet for these runs about 150-300 dollars.
Now you can go Belegarth or Dagorhir which is boffer but still full contact but doesn't require helmets or armor. It's a little more about the fun and sword play than the authenticity. The average weapon costs 30 dollars to build and that's all you need but most groups have loaner weapons.
Look up the societies and see what you want as each has chapters all across the nation. Note that some have membership fees but bel/Dag don't.
I'm currently fighting Belegarth and shinai and hopefully branching out into fencing soon.
Don't get in with LARP or Amtgard though. They have gay magic systems and don't hit at all.

Folkstyle is pretty much the default way to wrestle today. I’m glad it is since all other forms of it don’t include nearly the amount of options and tools available to you. Really the one that most people actually care about. That medieval combat knight shit sounds so fucking stupid that it would be fun. Literally a full-scale Larp party.
