Makes sense. Even if they slap 8 cameras nothing will change. They slapped 2 cameras in p9 and honor8 because they knew apple would do that but had no idea why so they made up some legend about increasing sharpness. Later when they found out the second camera was added for zoom they did same thing in their new phone. Huawei is shitty company making unoriginal ripoffs and their software gets worse with every generation. EMUI 5 is so fucking bad it hurts.

Same reason they never really took off on TVs, both the technology and the content wasn't there yet. 3D has somewhat made a comeback in VR HTC made the Evo 3D which was a phone with a glasses free 3D display and stereoscopic cameras

Think of it this way, the space next to the front cam on a regular phone is normally wasted anyway. On a notch phone in "off" mode that space isn't wasted, it shows status stuff. I think this is a great way to use the space without the annoyance of having your screen image missing a chunk of it.
