More like
>drop hard drive module in public
>someone picks it up and places it in their modular phone
>64 gigs of furry porn
>It's serialized and linked to your account
>either get extorted or an awkward phone call

>Hard drive module
>drop
I don't think anyone is gonna be getting any data off that

Google Glass
blackberry passport
tinder glasses
double screen phones
glassless 3d phones
projector phones

64gb of furry porn down the drain

modular phones could easily be achievable and would sell extremely well. too bad manufacturers would rather focus on planned obsolesence instead of a reason to keep your phone for more than a year

Also it would be a proprietary nightmare unless there's some sort of standardization, which there won't be

The Passport's the best phone

I have a Passport. Great phone. With that said, every phone should have the ability to send and receive calls and texts through a computer.

Did you see a cellphone with removable battery? Did your mom built her own pc? Demand dictate the market. And nobody gives a shit about modularity. They just want it to work and be cheap.

>tfw I'm a straggler
I remember upgrading to W7 in 2016 because software vendor would not allow their software to install on XP. Window snapping was nice, but I dislike how they removed the seconds on the clock. If memory serves right, people were bitching about how Windows 8 was a complete trash fire.

just need phone with 8 SD slots

Tablets, smart watches, smart glasses, vr, ar.

If you want modular buy a desktop. Phones don't work well with modularity due to the many design constraints involved. Consumers don't care for modularity either.

>demand dictates the market
Wrong, competition dictates the market

>iphones breaking without the help of Jow Forums
Dark days indeed. Did they fire their engineering department for something more "enriching"?

Modular phones lmfao you guys think some stupid fucking shit

Attached: medical malpractice.png (805x427, 310K)

the truth is that it didn't fail, just got absorbed/dismantled by corporate.
It was too disruptive to actually ever see a consumer version

Attached: nvidia_geforce_gtx_690_pcb.jpg (1680x1213, 588K)

oh shit meant PlayBook
sorry mates

this >would sell extremely well
according to whom? based on what?
the whole thing has little point. phones age very quickly, their components are more interconnected than on PC. there's little point in keeping just some of the components, unless you'd like to create another Nokia 808. and given the American system of "plan ends, buy a new phone", it's made even more useless.
moreover, there's the tech disadvantage. hate it or love it, non-modular phones can be made way thinner.
how they were going to ensure compatibility and write drivers/ROMs for it is a different question. That's a tall order when some companies still can't make a good ROM for a non-modular phone. And imagine if it the support for it would get dropped 6 months in. What's the use?
Last but not least, the "it just werks" and "what's a compooter" factor. If you think that the majority of the consumers are proud CS majors who run linux and don't need no botnet, you're very naively mistaken. we're talking bout people who will buy a $1000 phone with a notch and no headphone jack.

>modular phones with retarded fastening mechanisms

Good. Faggot.
The passport is based

what do you mean

>they take the intact platters in for forensic data retrieval

this

lmao

That's making a bold assumption that you'll find another person in the same city that fell for the modular meme

I liked the idea though.

And I present to you, Windows Continuum, that was created for the (now defunct) Windows Phone.
Damn I liked that OS and that idea.
Too bad the pooinloo CEO didn't.

>Tablets, smart watches, smart glasses, vr, ar.
But all those things are still alive and selling, user.

What ever happened to that faggot that came up with the phoneblocks idea?

Rest in peace, it would've been the best OS on the market if it was open sourced and de-botnetted. Also if it had more support from developers/could run Android apps. You can run CM 13 on the Lumia 520, but I'm not sure how well it runs with dual core 1.2GHz and 512mb RAM though.

Eh I do agree with both of you partially. Tablets, VR, and to some more limited extent AR are a thing. Smart watches -- hmm dunno, sort of a soyboy accessory, but can't say they completely failed either.

I don't really see how did you come to a conclusion Tablets failed, they were a big thing once, now they just kinda got superseded by big 5,5"+ tabletphones.
VR might be once again too early, but it has already done much better than during all previous attempts with it. This time it's probably here to stay, especially with how the mobile VR market is growing.
Smart glasses are really a meme though.

>make the most decent phone designs
>it dies because of the stupid WP
Glorious Nokia design
Every day, you see them crying
Only for the perceiving failure of micropoo

>HDD in phones

fuck i remember when they pitched this on Jow Forums for the first time back in 2008 or so. i thought it was gonna be big

Agreed, modular phones are pointless beyond the things that are standardized. Like the MicroSD card. There will be no standard where you can swap a camera module from one phone with a off-the-shelf generic one. Just look at DSLR cameras, it's not like you can take any lens from any camera and use it on another. It's pointless to buy a phone from one vendor piece by piece.

nokia N91 had one

…holy fuck
do you need to defrag it

Blackberry Passport is to this day an irreplaceable phone for me. I still use it even tho it gets more and more difficult and I will only begin to look onward if it breaks or becomes unusable at the end of 2019

I love these little things

yes

me too

top kek
I wonder about the mechanical noises and reading times

>walking through the city
>spaghetti module falls out of my pocket
>tfw

old ipods had mini hard drives too, same ones

Jesus christ how did they fuck this up so bad, I was actually looking forward to it as they would've made a killing in the business world.

Know needs a shitty laptop when you can just dock your phone to use as a desktop.

>mechanical noises
it was quite silent

>reading times
hgst.com/sites/default/files/resources/Final_Microdrive_3K6_datasheet.pdf

yep. These hdds were called microdrives

Nothing of value was lost

I dropped my laptop with an HDD from about 5 feet while it was on, and nothing fucking happened.

>fail tech

Attached: windows-8-start-screen.jpg (700x603, 58K)

the Huawei Mate 10 Pro can do that with just a HDMI adapter

>android desktop

animegirloldingpuke.jpeg

Only on desktop, metro is great on phones/tablets

have you never owned something with a microdrive? ipod mini? palm lifedrive? the 340mb CF card drives? they were surprisingly reliable, i had 4-5 of them and the devices's batteries got unusable or i dropped and broke the screen before any of the drives died

>nobody has posted this pile of wearable soy

>Not wanting to film women all day long without raising suspicions

The problem is that it was Windows. Microsoft has been trying to move away from x86 since the days of NT 3.5 on Alpha, and failed every single time. Linux with Wayland would be a much better fit, and hopefully Plasma Mobile will provide that soon.

Blame the normies for rejecting a non-intrusive HUD because of privacy concerns. This is a way better idea than the smart watches or speakers.

30 years of "innovation", and Microshit gives us a slightly better looking version of Windows 1.
It's like they suddenly went for nostalgia. They even changed the Winblows logo back, and the window management works the same except now it's vertical.

Attached: windows 1.8.png (1014x1500, 702K)

So cute!

Attached: 1513293936805.jpg (1255x1435, 1.33M)

This only proves that MS is capable of making great hardware and software, it's just that the ambitions of the brass up top keep fucking it up.

Right now, pooinloo is preoccupied with cloud and just follows the trend. Microsoft has the manpower and talent to create something worthwhile if the creators got the chance to do it their way for once.

Attached: MicroSoft Courier.jpg (1200x800, 126K)

It seems every normie, their infant child, and their pet has a tablet. It's a raging success by any measure.

VR is still in the turbo-autism stages and won't see widespread adoption for a while.

Smartwatches are actually particularly popular with women aside from your usual gaping mouth soyboy tech freaks. They have literally swapped out their FitBits for iWatches. From their perspective, they no longer have to fish out their smartphone from their purse.

Another odd trend is that women are much less likely to pocket their phone, as they've become too large for their pocket and they use it so much that it's always in their hand. Great for job interviews I might add.

Do you actually have people just holding their phones during the interview? Jesus that wouldn't even fly if they were applying at McDonald's

I don't do interviews, but talking with older managers and admin staff, they hate seeing their employee's and coworker's smartphones with a passion. But to be on topic...

Yes, they're that retarded. Right now, there are lots of people that not only keep their phone at the ready and out of pocket, but literally cannot comprehend a life without having their fucking phone within arm's reach at all times.

Goddammit I'm only 22 and I see people fresh out of high school and college do this. Even people older than I am by at least a full decade do this. How bad is this going to get?

I was riding my bicycle on my way home and this 20 something year old was also on a bicycle, at night with no lights other than the glow from his smartphone while staring at said object while pedaling forward.

Tablets are already starting to die out as larger phones are becoming the norm

planned obsolescence is not a hardware problem but a software problem. software is explicitly designed to fuck with old hardware, there is no possible way in ignoring that. my old galaxy s3 could do all I want and need, however it is brutally overhelmed by modern bloatware, ad shit and drm everything

>yfw you will never see crazy dual GPU cards ever again.

The AMD 295x2 was mad lad tier, I loved it.

If only game devs weren't codelets.

Attached: 1515308606309.png (232x266, 4K)

It's still shit on phones and tablets. I disabled switching to that shit on my Surface because of how awful it was. Who the fuck even came up with that garbage?

It grew on me with my touchscreen laptop

The intel one looks promising.

>google glass

google glass is a success in industrial enterprises.

i don't think it counts as a fail but i had bigger expectations about e-ink technologies. still there isn't any good e-reader with proper hardware.

damn i already forgot this shit existed, even though I used it for years

>Google Glass
But why? I've heard it was because of the lack of funding. Their design looked better and actually like something a sane person would wear outside. It was definitely better than any VR headset design anyone could muster.

google glass was an AR thing, it wasn't competing with VR

I was mainly comparing design and usability. Why exactly was the project abandoned? Any information on
?

>most successful and versatile OS ever built
>failure

Man I remember being hype for project ara

>not phonebloks
newfag

Wasn't that what it was before Google bought them up?

or maybe he preferred it?

>versatile
>only runs on certain x86(_64) machines

I had one in a Seagate USB drive for quite a few years. 20gb when flash media was barely pushing 4gb. It was fucking awesome. Used the shit out of it for work.

Attached: gnu-vs-linux_orig.jpg (758x435, 38K)

Pisses me off. I like an 8" tablet for home use and news reading and such. I don't want to carry an 8" phone all around. Need a new one soon and the options fucking suck balls.

source: my ass

AMD has infinity fabric so its now easier than before to just "glue more on".

I'm fucking hyped for it. As long as its not over 300$. If its not I might get a used one down the road.

>would sell extremely well
LOL no. It wouldn't. Only neckbeards give 2 fucks about "making your own phone". No one else does, and at this point, there's no reason for it.

cute desu

Such a dumb idea. I got laser eye surgery so I never had to wear glasses again. Why would I want to wear this so I can get updates from google plus in real time?
