I came to this board because I heard there were threads about programming, software engineering etc. There are sometimes, but mostly, it's all retards who are just pure consumers and come here to troll around. Sure, that can be funny sometimes, but it's mostly annoying. I was bearing it till 1 or 2 days ago when I saw people debating which calculator they use. Fucking calculator? Seriously? Let me summarize this board for you people. It consists of: 1. Retards who come here to show off their wasted money(mostly applefags) 2. Retards who have nothing to actually do with technology and are pure consumers but they still come here so they could feel like they're part of something 3. Retards who will shove their OS preference in your face 4. Retards who use GNU/Linux as it was Windows(example, people who debate calculators and are angry over KDE calculator...) 5. Retards who use Windows and believe that GNU/Linux is trash because it can't run their games and that people who use GNU/Linux are retards 6. Lost fags 7. And at the end, some people who take this board seriously and actually want to learn something

I would be happy if above mentioned people were doing it ironically, but no, they are just pure retards who do it unironically. I think that right solution is that we should get a new board made for serious discussions related to science part of Technology and leave rest here. believe it or not, this used to actually sort of be a decent board back in the day it used to be about equal thirds: -people who cared about freedom and contributed to free software -people who were knowledgeable about cool stuff, could actually program, and/or were employed in interesting related fields -people passing through temporarily looking for help with homework or putting together a computer then the first major bitcoin boom happened over night we were completely inundated with idiot normalfag consumer whores looking to make a quick buck they overwhelmed everything we did outposting us 100 to 1 there was no chance to help acclimate them or preserve ourselves, what was Jow Forums was now a small irrelevant minority Jow Forums was created as a containment board, but it was too late, the damage had been done and many never left, deciding to make this their new home bitcoin unironically and literally ruined Jow Forums i don't know why i can't force myself to close the tab every day here fills me with more sadness, but i just can't leave i've been here so long i feel i need to see it through to the end
a list of threads on Jow Forums i actually like: - discussing exploits / leaks, i.e meltdown - programming challenges (that image copying one was cool) - desktop threads BUT ONLY ONE! most ppl in those are at least somewhat competent programmers and i enjoy the suggestion for wms + software - /dpt, /sqt, /hglt, /hpg - some other goofy ones, tech gore etc
but everything else is shit. its all memes but what else can you expect from an internet community? regardless of where we go, it will follow

Well those threads are ok, I can't cope with /dpt and similar usually because they are just too big. Since Jow Forums mods ban you very easily, if we got a board with nice rules, faggots won't be able to follow because they'd get banned.

Because Jow Forums in general has been so sensationalized over the years. I remember coming to /b/ in like 2007-2008 and it was indeed a better place. Then over the years came all sorts of media attention (CP, nudes, school shooters etc) and now youtubers are introducing kids to "memes", it feels like Jow Forums in general became the forbidden place on the internet where every 14 year old had to post in order to be edgy and cool. I gave up on /b/ and migrated to Jow Forums and Jow Forums, but those 2 are becoming increasingly toxic aswell.
I mean Jow Forums it's supposed to be tech related right ? So why is it when we have a thread about say Reverse Engineering it dies after about 15minutes but we have like 10 threads about bullshit every day where we do nothing else than shitting on the choices of others, complaining about desktop environments or solving fizzbuzz again.

Reporting posts could help. Identify the people that are bringing down discussions in a particular thread and report them. I do this with the “iToddler” poster and I hope that it’ll eventually have an effect. We need to do the needful.
There needs to be more mods who will BAN people who ask for tech support and BAN people who try to help. Also block the ability to bump your own thread.
