12 tone equal temperament is the modern tuning system. In classical tuning the 4th and 5th interval produce 'perfect' harmonics because they are perfect ratios of the octave whereas b7, b9, etc are a bit out of tune. In the modern tuning all the intervals are just slightly imperfect even the 'perfect' ones. Look up the detail it's interesting

It literally depends on the instruments, composition, sound design, mixing which determine what tuning sounds better. If you remade a 440hz piece in 432hz that would make some high frequency content shift down into the 1khz fletcher munson bump and some content around 1khz would be made psychoacoustically quieter when shifted down 8hz and it may or may not be pleasing depending on the content. Sometimes it might sound better shifted slightly up.
The prevalence of accurate digital tuners that give instantaneous digital readouts and the speed of digital recording and not having to get everything done right in one take means you can intuitively pick not just a key for your piece but something a few hz flat or sharp of say b minor.
If you were a composer in the olden days you would have the most prominent instrument in the piece dictate the tuning of the rest but you wouldn't be able to fuck around with a recording with some program akin to the varispeed on a turntable and realize a certain section sounds better when tuned up or down and it was worth retuning the whole piece to accommodate the part you think sounds better retuned.
This 432hz shit comes from people messing around with turntablers and samplers and noticing certain parts change character in a pleasing fashion when you transpose them, things which didn't exist in 1940 when the nazis outlawed music forever
