Cause it is. Fork is immanent at this point. However many committers for now are in wait and see mode if CORE will do the right thing (which they won't for obvious corporate reasons).
Tip for other FreeBSD developers: it is not a very big secret that they already have a list of "troublesome" nicks who tried publicly to question/speak up against new CoC and how it would be enforced. Don't be stupid, create and use new dummy accounts, all of that labeling "non-user and troll" is good old tactics to identify who is who.
Look up who is pushing this new CoC and where those individuals work at. It will become clear pretty fast.

Do not buy into these "core developers" BS. Yes, FreeBSD has the "gatekeepers" with the commit bit, but they are there only to prevent non-corporate approved things from entering. Do not believe me? Check for how many years certain changes have not left the mailing lists.
FreeBSD uses very archaic centralized model, that allows them to have a full control over SVN, main mirros, forums and even IRC channels.
We no longer live in times where world takes weeks to compile. So put the fork on github and let the community grow by itself like in hundreds of other projects hosted on github. Many FreeBSD developers already use github clone for their WIP branches anyway. Only corporate types continue to cling to centralized subversion (for obvious reasons).

FreeBSD is a Linux and Solaris wannabe. If you want to use Linux, use Linux. If you want to use Solaris, use Illumos.

If you want to use a classical BSD, use OpenBSD. If you want to use a next-generation innovative BSD, use DragonFly. If you want to study OS development, use NetBSD.

FreeBSD is an appliance OS used by a bunch of proprietary companies, nothing more. It's basically Corporate BSD.

Which explains why they want to infest it with a means by which they can remove anyone by accusing them of being a shitlord.

FreeBSD used to be good, when it was viable as a desktop OS. I guess nowadays you can use TruOS, but that's actually the issue with FreeBSD. It doesn't really stand on its own. People mostly use it as a base for things like OPnsense, FreeNAS, TruOS, etc. or for their corporate OS (Juniper, Netflix, etc.)

It's more a component than an actual OS. People criticize OpenBSD for lacking certain features, but it can be used as an actual desktop OS (support for ThinkPad is great, with a much better sound architecture than Linux, good support for most desktop environments, etc.), as a server OS for small-to-medium workloads (it's not "Google-scale" but in practice very few people have that problem) and as a great network appliance OS (firewalls, routers, etc.)

The two main issues are: old-school storage system (no modern FS) and poor SMP / scalability (but, again, most people don't have that issue).
