How do I deal with changing to a new computer when I've spent probably at least 100,000 hours with my old one? It's like putting down an old pet just because you're getting a new one.

SU800 256GB*

Rate my build, it's for my 70 year old landlord who wants a small PC that will be good for 2+ monitors and heavy business-themed usage

Attached: build1.png (1165x735, 86K)

>buying windows
everytime

Attached: 1521239458247.png (644x688, 16K)

You could do a business PC for far less than that.

It's for his business so he doesn't want me to pirate it

>business PC
>$175 motherboard
>$200 500GB SSD
>$80 psu

Am bigly confused

just waiting for the vega 56 to become a litlle cheaper so I don't have to mental gymnastic too hard versus the 1080ti. Yeah, the ti, cause I could get a couple for even cheaper right now.
>implying I would ever buy ngreedya.
>yes, I'm that kind of guy.

Just clone your disks over.

The mobo and SSD were his choices, I guess he wants it to last a while and have expandability

fresh installs are always better.
research new takes on the tweaks you may have done, abandon bad practices while you're at it and take a chance look for better or more optimized things.
media files and such things shouldn't pose a problem, even if you're porting from old hd's onto new ones.

Sure but he doesn't need to go high dollar to make a workplace PC. He'd probably be fine with a sata SSD and much cheaper wifi motherboard desu. But then again if it's his money and he wants to do it, then let him go for it.

It's a little strange seeing someone splurge on the main storage speed but then get sorta mediocre ram though.

He reads power user and some other dumb magazines and saw this mobo and something about nvme being the best so that's what he wants. He originally wanted a micro size case that will fit a full size ATX gaming mobo and it took me forever to explain it wasn't possible. He was prepared to buy a small case and just shave off one side so it fit the full mobo

My pc (RAM & MOBO) broke on october, and I thought about saving some money to build another one, so I sold my old Intel CPU and started thinking about what to replace CPU & MOBO with (Ram would be kinda out of the scope because it doesn't depend on the kernel)
Since the new release of Ryzen if just behind the corner, I thought about picking a 1600-ish processor of this gen (unless I can get a 1X00 fairly cheap), but I am not sure what MOBO to pick, specially when it comes to chipset. Would I be okay picking a 350 chipset board? All I want is to build 1 GPU and I'm not really into overclocking, the only think that I want is setting the ram to something like 3000-3200MHz (since that's a safe and value for today standards right?), what advice can you give me? AFAIK a 350 board would be okay as long as I update the BIOS, but would I be able to do it if I bought a Ryzen 2 CPU? Is there any option or factor I should consider? Any more info you might find of use? I was thinking about spending something like 300 for both CPU and MOBO, just in case you wonder about budget and such

it doesn't depend on the CPU**

>Would I be okay picking a 350 chipset board? All I want is to build 1 GPU and I'm not really into overclocking, the only think that I want is setting the ram to something like 3000-3200MHz (since that's a safe and value for today standards right?)
B350 was made for people like you.
I would recommend an Asrock Fatal1ty AB350 Gaming K4
If you want to use the XFR2 and better precision boost the second gen Ryzen CPUs will get, wait and see if a B450 launches with it.

You're putting your old pet down because its old. If it weren't old you wouldn't be getting a new one.

Or you could just upgrade your old one instead of taking it out behind the shed.

Well I would give him props for being interested in tech at that age but wow. Really makes me think, will I do stuff like that when I'm old?

>gpu prices are finally coming down

Attached: 1522358587662.jpg (646x700, 159K)

will xfr2 and the new precision boost be backwards compatible with Ryzen 1x00 series?

I hope buttcoin prices keep dropping

they will

When choosing between TN and IPS panels, what are the tradeoffs?
27" 1440p seems to be the most reasonably priced nowadays so I'm probably going to go with that. Other than that, I don't really need anything special besides being adjustable vertically and being able to rotate to portrait.
That still leaves a ton of options.

fast response vs color accuracy.
narrow viewing angle vs wide viewing angle.

tn only for pro level autistic fps players, who would actually be better off with old CRT's anyways.

What compels a man to do this?

Attached: peak performance.jpg (4032x3024, 945K)

Soy

vomit

Thanks, IPS definitely sounds like a better match for my use, haven't touched a game in like a year, and improved viewing angle would be a godsend.
How bad is IPS glow? I've only had TN panels so far.

A lot of disposable income and no real hobby/social life other than playing video games.

Useless mobo with nvme trash instead of 16 gigs of ram

Attached: 1479423202734.png (785x757, 393K)

I know a guy with a setup like this, he's actually gay tho.

kill yourself
no, wait, in fact, kill everyone related to you as well just to make sure your tainted genes don't spread

go here, for any info on anything related to monitors.
tftcentral.co.uk/

IPS has a share of issues, the worst being back light bleeding, and from my perspective, a bit of an exaggeration on how bad black levels actually are.
if you're migrating from a TN panel, especially an old one, you will be delighted even with budget IPS panels.

>Doesn't get windows 10 pro from allkeyshop for 20 bucks
kek

I was on the verge of hitting the checkout button on a new gaming pc when I saw this comment and thought about my life... Then I bought some D&D stuff instead.

Cheers, you won't regret that.

Frankly he doesn't seen an NVMe disk. You're not going to see any real improvement over a normal SSD if all you're running is like Word and Excel.

I'm all for RGB peripherals, and I don't mind RGB components in-system, like coolers and RAM, but LED strips are just gaudy and they almost never look good.

I have $500 and already have a good monitor. What now?

if you bought a key from any cdkey reseller you're literally retarded and got scammed. legally speaking they can be deactivated at any time and you're better off just pirating wangblows.

I'm thinking about doing some custom sleeving with paracord. Is type 3 the best size for ATX cables if I'm sleeving each cable individually? Type 2 has a slightly smaller diameter, so I figure it might make for a tighter, nicer sleeve. But, I never see anyone talking about which type of paracord they're using. It's always just "paracord".

This would be cheaper, even with the 2400g and win 10
pcpartpicker.com/list/dBGMZR

What's the consensus on buying GPUs from eBay? As long as the condition is "New" and the seller has positive feedback, am I good to go?

Taking that into consideration you could get a B350-F Rog Strix

Isn't windows 10 pro literally meme? Like I'm pretty sure the features it provides are actually just for corporations that you would see in Shadowrun trying to manage 100+ wageslaves.
>remote admin tools
>database tools
>remote security tools etc

kys microsoft shill.
>legally speaking any windows license can be changed or deactivated any time at M$ discretion, for their own benefit or at their onus.

>microsoft shill
>when i am telling people to pirate their shit
you're fucking retarded. by buying from resellers you're just giving money to slavshits or pajeets who get them for free in the first place. pirating wangblows is literally less risk and effort.

This might be kind of a gay question but does anyone have suggestions for getting custom made decals for tempered glass. I would like one but all the tempered glass decals I can find are fucking gay facebook tier meme shit.

I just want a sizable decal of Thomas Jefferson.

>SSD prices refuse to go down
>RAM prices insane and still rising, god knows why

>cheaper covfefe lake mobos still not here yet
Behold the power of capitalism.

Capitalism doesn't exist to serve you at every waking moment. It provides opportunities for success and innovation that bring about change in the market. You had the option of getting graphics cards for cheap less than a year ago and you didn't buy them then hoping to get a better deal. You didn't buy ram because you were banking on better innovations in the future. SSD prices have dropped significantly and now you can get a 500gb SSD for the previous price of a 120gb or 240gb SSD. Intel have every right to try and secure a foothold using their proprietary faggotry and it could easily backfire on them and make them crumble. All of this is better than waiting for the government to approve innovations and then fixating prices and availability of products.

How does this look Jow Forums, I can get this for 1000eur, I need it for gamedev/3d modeling/real-time rendering, gaming from time to time

Wait, what, why?

>buys a 165hz 4k ultrawide from Asus.
>and radeon RX560
but it doesn't work! they lied to me.

do you really have to ask?

Wanting to build a home server, which will use Dockers, VMs, and a decent pool of storage.

Looking at:
Ryzen 5 1600
1 x 8Gb 2400MHz RAM (Upgradeability in mind to 16Gb when required)
ASUS A320 or B350 board (undecided).

How am I doing?

is 21:9 worth it?
Hate black bars in movies.

Sexy

shitty ram for ryzen, you need fater ones desu

It's like 50% more for 3000MHz stuff though!

you can find 3000mhz ram fro $170

>£105 for 3000MHz
£70 for 2400MHz

correct me if i'm wrong but those black bars are not there because of your monitor but from the original aspect ratio the movie was filmed in

just finished assembling a build (humble, college budget). i cant get output into my monitor to see the BIOS. I havent put an OS in yet. what am I dont wrong, or am I just being dumb.

mobo is giabyte AB350, using hdmi into a HP monitor

Look for Ballistix 2666MHz or Team 3000MHz and B350-F Rog Strix or B350 PC Mate and Prime B350-Plus for cheaper options

so wouldnt it be removed if the monitor was same aspect ratio as the movie

Plugged directly into mobo or GPU?

>You had the option of getting graphics cards for cheap less than a year ago and you didn't buy them then hoping to get a better deal. You didn't buy ram because you were banking on better innovations in the future.
Not him, but you're either just making shit up in order to strawman, or you're projecting.

Not everyone is in the same financial position they were a year ago. Some people are putting together their first rig. Some people want to upgrade in order to meet a need they didn't have a year or two ago.

For example, I built a new rig last year. I didn't have the budget for four sticks of DDR4 then, so I just bought two. Now, I want another pair of RAM, but the price is through the roof. Similarly, I want to try doing passthrough on a GPU for windows-only games, but I don't want to have to give up access to my GPU on my primary OS because I still play games on it, and I also drive a bunch of monitors with it. So, I'd like a second GPU, but the prices are through the roof.

Capitalism is better than socialism, but that doesn't mean you can't bitch about it when its at its worst. Fuck off you pseudointellectual fuck.

tried both, no signal. Also tried into mobo with gpu disconnected from power. I am starting to wonder if i need to go get a hdmi to VGA adapter

It shouldn't matter but just in case maybe try it plugged into mobo with GPU completely removed.

I have a 990FX board new in the box, should I get some more parts and make a rig? that seems more fun than doing what the miner assholes do on eBay and sell it for hundreds.

Attached: s-l16002.jpg (1600x1200, 246K)

nope, still same

my bad, i kinda disregarded that you mentioned 21:9 ratio in your post. yeah it would remove the black bars and if you dislike them then go for it

a 4 thread cpu for a 1000 smack-a-roonies? get the fuck outta here

I don't understand, is that too much or too low?
The whole build costs that much, it's 1100 actually

that cpu costs 220e in my country

great board for a 6300 or 8320. overclock the shit out of it and would be fine for 1080p gamimg

Cool, I've already got a CX750 shipped because reasons, just gotta get an overpriced HyperX 16Gb kit, the 8350, and a case, I'll use my spare GT 610 and shitpost with it until I can afford a 1060.

This board is so sexy I can't stop looking at it.

Attached: GA-990FXA-UD3.jpg (1200x1600, 283K)

So I'm building a workstation with TR (heavy VM) and I will use an AIO watercooling solution, maybe if I at some stage feel autistic enough I'll go with a custom loop. My mainboard will be E-ATX.
Any recommendations regarding a case?

Clear CMOS

If you want a balance of quality, looks, and price, get a 750D and put the workstation in that.

How is the clearance in this case? I've looked at pictures before and it seems ok, just don't know about E-ATX and possibly 4 cheap GPUs. With a loop should I be autistic enough - highly doubt it though.

I'd go for the 750, the 900D could fit all your shit for sure, but it costs $330 instead of $130 the 750 costs.

Looking for a nice matx cube case, and the two I've kinda came down to are
mydiypcusa.com/products/cases/cuboid-r.html
thermaltake.com/products-model_gallery.aspx?id=C_00002559

I just can't tell which I'd want more. They have advantages and disadvantages. The cuboid is thinner and has 2 fans which can create some real pressure in the case since it's not just mesh walls. But being thinner makes it hard to handle cables, managing them will be pretty tough.

I would get this for a little more, consider a 620 EVO
de.pcpartpicker.com/list/Fkhr6s

Alright, I've got a 2TB HDD (my OS drive), my 500GB SSD I'm upgrading to, and a Windows 7 OEM disc, what's the least painful way to do this?

I installed the disc on the SSD but when I went to fix the SATA ports it stopped recognizing the SSD as a bootable drive even though it looked fine when I checked back on my HDD.

Attached: Samsung.jpg (800x600, 42K)

Might have to go into the bios and tell it to recognize that SSD as a bootable drive

I didn't have the money a year ago, I have pic related right now. If anything I'm in an extremely similar position to what you're describing.
>Capitalism is better than socialism, but that doesn't mean you can't bitch about it when its at its worst. Fuck off you pseudointellectual fuck.
It's not at it's worst yet, the worst we've seen of capitalism was during the great depression when people couldn't even eat. The worst we've seen of capitalism was in Chicago during the 1870's where buildings didn't even have fire safety standards and thousands of people literally burned alive do to corporate incompetence. You're complaining about a market fluctuation in graphics card prices that's rather negligible because if you were willing to do the work on your part you could subscribe to one of the many mailing lists and try to get a card directly from the manufactorer, or you could get a card from a secondary market like eBay or Craigslist. All those options exist because of capitalism, where in communism or socialism "BYPASSING" the established market would be seen as robbing the government and your fellow man.

I'm so fucking tired of seeing retards shitting on capitalism without even realizing how good they have it right now. It's fucking ridiculous.

Attached: shit_specs.png (454x394, 22K)

still nothing
only thing i can think to do at this point is go back through and check everything on my mobo

I bought some Used Ram
>amazon.com/G-SKILL-RipjawsX-240-Pin-Desktop-F3-14900CL10D-16GBXL/dp/B006ZLJRO8/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1522716784&sr=1-1&keywords=G.SKILL RipjawsX Series 16GB#

and the clock speed/timings don't seem to match up, did I get ripped off? I already went into the Bios and used the only XMP profile there.

Attached: speccy.jpg (813x178, 34K)

a little of blogpost asking for advice
>build PC for a friend
>only left if GPU
>they are all sold out or +200€ from the initial price
>just wait(tm)
>find a cheap 1060 6GB for 250€
>contact him, he is actually my cousin so get it quickly
>he gives me a "broken" Z270 Gaming Plus MSI
>it's just 5 or 6 bend pins

I think I just fixed them. Should I get a 7700K and such or would saving just like 120 bucks not worth it at all? I currently have an i7 4790, 24GB and a 1060 6GB. I should be fine if I go with 16GB of RAM since I don't really use the 24GB all the time.
That mobo should be able to get even faster RAM. Try to adjust it manually and don't use the XMP. Also, are you sure that RAM is the one in your picture?

Intel is just fucking whack at knowing what RAM is, my kingston hyperx fury 10-11-10-30 runs default at 1866 on the 8350, manually setting it should do.

Who would win
>An entire hardware industry with consumers banking on companies to provide the latest hardware at competitive prices
>Capitalism

>. It provides opportunities for success and innovation that bring about change in the market
>It's been two years since Nvidia has released a gpu successor to 1080ti
What did he mean by this

Whenever you get extra money you could get a 2200G+a 2x4GB dual channel DDR4 kit+B350 for $260, maybe consider a su650 or su800 to speed things up a little

>year is 2022
>buttmad gamers riot about gpu prices and now gpu's are under the control of the government
>show up at 5:00AM at my local DCC (Department of Computer Components) to stand in line for when it opens at 9:00AM
>Walk up to the counter, Mrs Shendel Johnson hands me the standard 192A form
>I fill out that I plan to use Nvidia's 1070ti for gaming. (They have 1080's and 1080ti's but they are reserved for people that use GPU's for work like 3D graphics rendering)
>See that they'll be releasing the new line of graphics cards within the next three years as soon as they finish their backlog of people currently on the wait list (trying to switch to the new GPU's pre-emptively would be a massive headache considering they still need to be tested and they still need a government approved set of driver updates to make sure they are compatible with every game approved on the market)
>I finish filing the form and turn it in
>Mrs Shendel notify's me that I'll get my GPU after currently enrolled students, underprivileged minorities, and women in that order.
>I go home and wait 19 months for my GPU to arrive.
>I head to the DCC website and register my GPU with them.
>After 15 days a government worker arrives to install my GPU and give me my registration key and install the latest driver updates which are only 9 months old.
>Install the driver updates, I also have to install several games and pieces of software created by student work programs and beat them, submitting a survey afterwords before I can uninstall them from my computer.
>I get a bill in the mail two weeks later to pay for my GPU
>The GPU was only $250, the government approved standard but naturally I also had to pay $450 in licensing and installation fees.

So much better than the corruption of capitalism though.

I'm just saving money and I'll buy a new computer in September.

Thanks that fixed it, I was pretty nervous about going in and changing my RAM setting manually but that was pretty easy.

Attached: mem.jpg (580x176, 25K)

Nice, I wouldn't sweat it unless you're increasing voltage past 1.5, even if you set the ram to 2133 or some shit it just won't post.
