This. Any company that give its employees laptops and doesn't encrypt them has a retarded sysop. Windows has built-in encryption called bitlocker. It won't protect your data from three letter agencies but it is a viable protection from thiefs and corporate spying. Anyone who doesn't understand this should never do any tech-related work.

We have a couple threads here every week where some retard asks for advice on wiping data from an SSD or HDD before selling it or throwing it out. If those people had kept their data encrypted from the get-go, they wouldn't be here asking their retarded questions.
Encrypting data in the current years has no noticeable drawbacks unless you have some superfast SSD, so you're deliberately making your system less secure when you don't encrypt your shit.
