I've been having some trouble with my internet and I'm like 30% sure that it's my DNS. I'm about to switch to the Google one, but I'd like something less botnet. What does Jow Forums use?
Is there a Jow Forums approved DNS?

also, >>>g/sqt
OpenNIC
run a benchmark first and see if there are any faster alternatives

Well shit, I didn't think that I'd get so much agreement so quickly. Now I just have to learn how to actually change my fucking DNS. Pic related, hopefully I'm not fucking this up.
Yeah, I think this is right. Thanks Jow Forums.
>changing DNS on router vs changing DNS on machine/device
which one do i do
BIND
router
DNSCrypt.
Use in conjunction with Acrylic DNS Proxy if on Windows. Acrylic DNS Proxy speeds up browsing through DNS caching and its hosts file is capable of blocking hard-coded Windows telemetry IP addresses which are ignored by Windows' hosts file.
Looks like you're on Ubuntu, so no Acrylic DNS Proxy.
I really urge you to consider DNSCrypt. Read up on it. It has security advantages over just using OpenNIC servers, especially if you use your PC for stuff like online banking, buying shit online with credit cards, anything which could expose you to identity theft, etc.
This. Remember to use your local ones for "normal" browsing and the anycast ones when using a VPN to prevent DNS leaks.
IBM(TM)s Quad9
cloudflare just released one today, i've noticed a difference, i usually use comodo though
enjoy your botnet
depends on location. download dns benchmark
I'm just using my ISP DNS.
Should I use something else?
I was thinking of using Ad Guard DNS, Good idea?
So what's the dns? I'm using dns crypt or sometimes 4.2.2.1/2/3.
see Don't use the anycast server, pick your country using the buttons at the top and use a local one.

Isn't this only good to bypass DNS block?
Also what about google's/cloudeflare?
1.1.1.1
1.0.0.1
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4
Because I'm not a pedo
The OpenDNS one.
It's the one I use.

>Isn't this only good to bypass DNS block?
no, fine for general use and most have anonymized logs or don't log at all
>Also what about google's/cloudeflare?
botnet, otherwise if you're not worried about that then it's fine as well.
Good goy.
Pihole

# OpenNIC DNS servers
nameserver 11.22.333.444
basically, tho gnome may do something else
The servers that I'd like to use (fastest for me) don't support DNSCrypt (the orange flag is missing).
How can I use DNSCrypt for these servers?
Sorry for the stupid question.
>this server doesn't support DNSCrypt, how do I use DNSCrypt with this server?
You don't.
>TP-Link router has two DNS options - one under WAN Interface and one under LAN Settings
what kind of chink fuckery is this
6.6.6.6 in the future.
this
Opennic also has a plugin for Chrome and Firefox for those using these
Use the LAN
The paranoid #! guide seems rather worried about DNSCrypt. Should I be?
whats the purpose of using opennic, guys? i usually just choose the fastest dns according to namebench. is opennic even one of the servers that are benchmarked in namebench?
Just use your ISPs DNS, they already know what sites you go to anyways.
4.2.2.2
Well I was under the impression that some OpenNIC servers supported it, not just OpenDNS (which is indeed shady) Of course the DNSCrypt project has had it's problems too, they shut down and restarted. I think you're better off placing your hopes in DNS over TLS, which I think is an actual standard now, not just one project. Unbound has supported it for quite a while, without any outboard proxy.
>just give up, you've already lost!
gee, I wonder who could be behind this post
unbound
>lololtrololol DA JOOOOZZZZ XDDD
gee, i wonder who could be behind this post
What's the difference between the two?
It explains in clear words why you may or may not want to do it.
> I'm like 30% sure that it's my DNS
You are clearly not qualified to discuss this.
+ OpenNIC
both
>change resolv.conf
>NetworkManager changes it
>dns=none
>reboot
>NetworkManager won't even start
Who else here /retarded/?
1.1.1.1
1.0.0.1
when you set dns=none, it wipes resolv.conf.
go reenter your settings there and restart network manager.
yes, you are retarded.
quad nines, of course
IS PiHole a good DNS software to run on local network? Seems like its main mission is ad blocking and not DNS
What are the alternatives?
>inb4 BIND
build a windows domain
>lol he's a jooooooo conspiratard xD

One one one one
One one one one
Yeah, it turns out that it's either the ISP, the router, or the BT socket. I suspect the latter.
O look another shill thread for that shitty new botnet DNS service
It'd be exceptional bait if that was the case.
Switched to cloudfare 1.1.1.1 today. Fuckin beaut.
Embrace the botnet and...
1.1.1.1
1.0.0.1
Im using the VV dns.
1.1.1.1
Apparently I should be using NTT, which I've never heard of
Unless your DNS server is literally broken by bother changing it?
>My DNS look up takes 20 milliseconds less time
Who gives a shit.
You're trusting Americans with your DNS lmao you absolute maniac
shills
default isp dns servers usually do query hijacking for nxdomain to forward you to an ad-ridden search site
PiHole + dnscrypt-proxy
the true masterrace.
They have IPv6 too, although not as catchy an address.
host your own recursive caching one and query the root dns providers
Stop shilling your botnet. They have been known to give data to Russians and Indians corporations.
I can't load their server list, it just timed out. The regular site I can load fine, but not the server subdomain. I disabled privacy badger and uBlock origin, I wonder if it's adguard DNS blocking it. I'll change my dns back later to test if this is the case.
I always use 4.2.2.3 and 4.2.2.2. They're always fastest for me.
In other news, Cloudflare just release new DNS servers with a focus on privacy. 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1.
ref: blog.cloudflare.com
Lastly, there's a tool you can use to benchmark DNS to see which is fastest for you. Check it here: grc.com
Quit shilling this shit, holy fuck
They usually suck though. 50% of Comcast "outages" are their DNS servers failing.
who is this, they're in several threads with no context
Do you have a single source to back that up?
It's bullshit, what data is there to collect and give away?
There's no universal OpenNIC package that everyone's running that snorts all the logs, just BIND, which is used on most every DNS.
The Cloudflare employees have been hitting Jow Forums hard lately. It's one of the most obvious shilling operations I've seen here.
Router & make your computer's DNS point to your router. So your router will cache entries for you that your house uses frequently & lookup will be less than 1ms.
>DNSCrypt.
the project is dead, they're working in DNSCrypt 2.0 and they're advising to wait for that
>all of these botnet users
best dns server is the one in your own home
you do have a dns server right?
report and hide
>query the root dns providers
wait, is it really this easy? i haven't tried doing this
Congrats, you're the most Jow Forums guy in the thread. How's your /fucko/ build?
