Holy hell user, your keyboard is so ugly my brain can't even process it. How can you live with a keyboard like that? I bet you it's not even full size

Vintage cherry's were actually good tho. Back then they had standards are switch variety

Garbage then. garbage now.

its indeed not full size :^) your keyboard still looks shit

What do you think about the following switches?

>novelkeys.xyz/products/novelkeys-x-kailh-low-profile-heavys?variant=3747977658408

Awesome for typing, definitely, especially the clicky blue ones.

t. doesn't know what he's talking about

Would be neat if some laptop maker would use those for the keyboard instead of wanking over "muh thinness".

was it really needed to change the position of those pads making them absolutly not compatible with regular builds?

Alps, buckling spring, hall effect, and beam spring are the only good switches.

How do I into Space Cadet keyboard/APL keyboard/autism-tier keyboard?

Alps and Beam springs are dead. I will add Beam Springs to top but dead.

anons, any suggestions for a mechanical keyboard for my macbook?

Doesn't matter, they're still the only good switches and cherry/clones should be in the shit section.

lofree fits your faggotry

Build one yourself or have a few kilobucks laying around in the off chance another one shows up on ebay. Not like you'd be able to actually use the original board anyway.

... any mechanical keyboard works on a mac
Well I think your opinions are shit. The Box navies are comparable to alps and beats matias.
Not to mention I have placed most alps above the standard cherry switches anyways.

only an apple user would think the keyboard goes with the computer and not the task

You're dumb as fuck and have shit opinions

Nah it is ur mousepad. I bet u are a fat fuck. wtf is this shit. Do you flip it over and eat the crumbs when you are hungry?

Buckling Springs sounds like a nice southern town.

> In a Model M, the electrical contact is a membrane sheet similar to that of a modern dome switch keyboard. On the older Model F design, a capacitive contact was used instead.
I meant membrane, made it in a rush. Also you cunt you got shit opinions. Black alps are terrible.

All good i'll just grab one of these.

Not surprised. People buy 200 dollar rubber domes and the Nips are laughing their asses off in their pile of yen.

At least a topre has the excuse of being a glorified rubber dome, that appleboard is just a bog standard shitlet dome.

> topre has the excuse of being a glorified rubber dome
explain

gunman usually replies with by uploading guns

Look up yourself how topre works. At least it doesn't require bottoming out like every other rubber dome board.

Alot of linear keyboard don't need bottoming out. It is not a unique feature.

>Look up yourself how topre works
I did, don't see the reason that "topre has the excuse of being a glorified rubber dome"

>It is not a unique feature.
It is for a rubber dome. That's the point.

>It is for a rubber dome. That's the point.
Wow... it is the nonshittiest rubber dome, what an achievement... And no. You are still wrong. Some dome and slider did not need bottoming out. Couple of the Mitsumi ones espcially.

Doesn't make topre not a glorified rubber dome.

>Some dome and slider did not need bottoming out. Couple of the Mitsumi ones espcially.
Source? Were they just capacitive as well?

They were not capacitive, but they were rubber dome.

deskthority.net/wiki/Mitsumi_KKQ_Type

So it's just a hybrid switch with a rubber dome for the return force & tactility?

This is accurate to the switches I've tried anyway.

Friendly reminder that topres are meme tier and are baisically just heavier versions of non-mechanical rubber domes.

There is no tactility. You basically hit a point and it registers. There is a tactile version... I think that is the KPQ. Mistumi has a weird naming scheme.

and yes there is a small rubber dome that basically indicated the point of registration. Although I can't remember if it was membrane as well or not.

nah I tried heavier domes. The NMB slider mod makes it heavy. Topres definitely have a smoother curve compared to the cheaper ones, but they have so many problems. The top housing hits the bottom plate on every topre board. rubbers wear out and get stiffer. The upstroke is super weak and feels like sand.

>Everything but these two rare and dead formats are terrible and should be compared on the same level since obiviously that means they're all equally trash
You're not very bright.

Which kind of buckling spring is the IBM/Unicomp Model M?

membrane buckling springs. I put rubber by mistake. I get them mixed up

This nigga can't be serious.

if that omni key is blue alps it might be worth it

Only the gold badge 102 has blue alps

I have a unicomp model m but it went to shit and a few keys aren't working now or some keypresses act for other keys (pushing 5 outputs a 4, 7 is a 6, shit's fucked) and i'm not sure whether or not it's even worth attempting to replace the board if the keyboard managed to crap out in just over a year.

anything kind of similar to the ibm model m or unicomp model m from a different vendor? unfortunately, i love that keyboard, but i can't seem to find anything similar to it that's not unicomp.

I don't ever eat in here.

There's model f, but that shit's expensive

Unicomp and the guy making Model F reproductions are the only people still making buckling spring keyboards. And of those two Unicomp is the cheaper option by a long shot.

Thanks. The model f repros look pretty expensive, I'm not sure I'm willing to spend that much on a keyboard. I'll look around a little bit and maybe try something new.

Just a reminder: the original model F boards costed around $700 each, adjusting for inflation.

It was $350 back in 1984, so it was a little more then that

So about $900 then, my mistake.

Really? That explains it I guess, I had no idea

Is there anything out there like a Cherry Clear but without the scratchiness?

If you're willing to put the time in, you could just a Model M on eBay and restore it. I saw a white-label just now going for 70 dollars with all the keys, but it's pretty dirty. The guy on clickykeyboards has a nice guide on how to clean the keys on his FAQ, and Geekhack has a guide on how to bolt mod it.

Yes. The only real complaint is that these are overpriced compared to other switches.

WOW what a steal. 27 years later and it's like a hundred bucks cheaper!

>27 years later and it's like a hundred bucks cheaper!
Because they're still better than most keyboards

Yeah? I followed the conversation but that wasn't me. >65405761

WRONG

Attached: EDGEY.jpg (1200x630, 114K)

Tbh I'd say Logitech is worse than Razer now. The Romer-G is such an impressively bad switch in almost every way. Very scratchy, pingy, and mushy. It's seriously unpleasant to type on.

Razer's new green switch (not the Kailh one) seems decent in my experience. It's stiffer, more tactile, has a deeper click than Cherry blues, and all the switches feel consistent. The QC problems people had with them seemed to be with the older Kailh switches. I haven't tried the Razer yellows or oranges so can't comment on those.

>Launches proprietary switch type
>Charges out the ass for it
>It's easily the worst switch ever made and no one who seriously likes mechanical keys likes it
>not shit
wew

I used Razer Oranges for a while and they were on the same level as stock Cherry Browns. Very scratchy, and not a lot of tactile action. They weren't terrible, but there's plenty better options for the same price point. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone, though, you can get better quality MX Brown keyboards for much cheaper than any Razer gaymer shit.

everyone shitting on the Romer G. Just because it's the worst doesn't mean completely god awful.

I managed to test out both the G413 and K840 and for some reason the newer boards have improved a bit. And Probably can be modified like Alps. But no way would I bring in a real mech into the work environment seeing how a bad story happened to a guy on Reddit. If someone wants to sabotage my workspace, it'll be the K840.

>seeing how a bad story happened to a guy on Reddit
Post a screencap or link me

Someone had his Model M vandalized with a staple remover basically.

Is Steelseries Apex M400 a good budget keyboard ?
It has a basic design, uses standard keycaps, it has backlight, Its made of plastic and it uses qx1 kailh switches.

Should I buy this for 75$ ?

Attached: Steelseries Apex M400.png (1050x600, 151K)

youtube.com/watch?v=WWyNn2wZCxs
apparently you can lube the switches to make them quieter
anyone here try this?

Never heard of those kinds of switches, but I'm assuming they're some sort of Cherry MX knockoff.
Just be aware when buying you get what you pay for with cheap keyboards, otherwise I'd go for it if you're looking for a cheap, entry level keyboard.

>get click jacket switches
>fuck them up with lube
What's the point?
