I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux" distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

Y/N? On one hand it might improve performance then again there's always a chance it'll brick my computer

Can you legally look at porn on an airplane?

I need a router to setup a tomato/openwrt/ddwrt to automate torrent downloads. I need it to have
>usb 3.0 port
>ac support
>possibility to increasy broadcast power via alternative firmware
>not be a piece of shit

Can you recommend anything?

What should I say in an interview when they ask me how much I expect to make?

because a thousand orgasms have been shot to every single one of her pictures. she has the power of the male desire

I have a large family with 5 kids who are almost old enough to own their own battle stations. However, I've been entertaining the idea of just building a server for my home and running thin clients for everyone. Are prices low enough to make the second option financially feasible?

Improve performance? It's not like a driver update for graphics cards where they frequently update all the time to optimize stuff, BIOS/UEFI firmware is different.

You should only update if you have a bug in the current firmware or need to improve the compatibility with new hardware you just bought that doesn't work quite right with the motherboard (e.g., certain models and frequencies of RAM).

Asus generally has good support for those things.

Any opinions on Asustor?
My father wants some NAS for 4+ HDDs and decided to get Asustor because it's tiny and matches his router aesthetically.
I'm not particularly concerned about it being (((intel))) as there won't ever be anything other than dumb movies accssed through SMB, but Asustor UI demo feels like some chink shit.
Also would any NAS accept an existing mdadm setup as is? He already has a server based on a really old, loud and hot Xeon with newly upgraded 3x8TB drives, and moving around 12TB of data twice over network would literally take multiple days and surpass the official "unrecoverable error rate" capacity.

Currently a junior minoring in cs and was wondering why is everyone, including my professors, saying its better to use text editors against IDEs. Currently using CLion with the free student license and i can't imagine coding without it.

Is buying asus/dell worth it over the current lenovo Iaptop I have?

Yes, but only assholes would do that.

Can you passively cool an AMD Ryzen 3 2200G with a big black Be Quiet Dark Rock Pro 3 cooler on stock clocks?

only if either;
- the site sends login details in the clear (http)
- you run an https proxy, which will require the person to accept your invalid certificate

what are your kinds usual activities? if they only browse, you are fine, or buy them some cheap tablets.
If they are into PC gaming, you are fucked, but on the bright side you have lots of not so demanding games to choose from

WTF, your dad is a moron, is even faster to move that data on external USB HDDs that to do it ovver the net, unless he hadd all connected to some optical network, and do shit like iSCSI

I'm trying to export to HEVC 265 from Premiere 2017 but I can't select 2 passencoding. Only 1 pass radio button for VBR (no option in CBR either). Is there a way to enable 2 pass encoding?

H264 has option for 2 pass just not H265

I have long security cam video which is mostly still for hours, is there a video player that will skip forward to parts where there's motion?

I'm trying to export to HEVC/H265 from Premiere 2017 but I can't select 2 pass encoding. Only 1 pass radio options in both CBR/VBR. Is there a way to enable 2 pass encoding?

H264 has option for 2 pass just not H265

Attached: 2pas.jpg (1455x1167, 199K)

typically that's done by having your camera system only actually record when there's movement in the first place, that way you aren't wasting your storage medium on a whole lot of nothing

give her 10 years, she'll look 50

what movie is this from

Looks like the Premiere HEVC encoder can't do 2 pass. If you really want to you could have Premiere export to something lossless or just really high bitrate, then reencode with x265.

Alright, what a fuck show. Handbrake still the best transcoder for windows? I guess just Lagarith and wait a million years?

I'd be lazy and just use premiere, looks like it doesn't try too hard to hit the requested target bitrate so unless you've got a strict filesize to meet 2 pass really isn't that necessary.

>unless you've got a strict filesize to meet 2 pass really isn't that necessary.
that's the only reason to ever use 2-pass, so of course he has a filesize he wants to hit

I have a PC case that appears to be a nonstandard config, I'm trying to figure out it's pros and cons to decide on what type of PSU to put into it since I can't find anything about it online, anyone seen one of these?

>appears to be atx but modified to improve airflow
>psu is top mounted, which would be bad, but:
>psu is sideways mounted, sucks in air through a vent in the side panel, bypassing the case not unlike a bottom mounted PSU
>Motherboard sits very high up, CPU exhausts straight into top fan
>Seems like it eliminates flaws of top mounted cases by having dedicated pathways for CPU exhaust (straight out the top) and psu intake (through the side)

If I use a psu with 12cm fan the way it was designed, then everything goes as planned
If I mount that psu upside down, then it could exhaust cpu air since it is right over it. But then it would mess up CPU air flow, since there's already a top fan. Plus the negative air pressure from two fans competing for the same air would affect the CPU air intake.

But OTOH if I use a closed loop liquid cooler for the cpu and exhaust it on the top, then the case will only have one 12cm intake in the front and no exhaust.

Should I mount the PSU backwards so it acts as a case exhaust fan? It won't be as hot because the cpu's heat is already exhausted with the liquid cooler.

No user you are the moron.
First, his server is so old it doesn't have usb3
Second, he's using aggregated double gigabit on both that server and his workstation
Third, a single mechanical HDD would be insignificantly faster than rsync over one gigabit network and less reliable, so your statement is moronic even without prior knowledge about his setup.

To clarify, he has 6x3TB old drives that will be used temporarily to migrate from old server to new if it would require reformatting the 3x8TB drives, but if possible I'd prefer to avoid it.

what are some decent cheap windows tablets?

I think so. That cooler is similar to a Noctua NH-D15, which is usually up to the task.

I got drunk and shaved my entire head bald what the hell should I do? I'm so embarrassed to be seen like this

Technically it's a public place, but as long as you don't stream it over their WiFi and no one catches you...

Wear a hat, faggot, and stop drinking.

to anyone who has maven installed, can you run "mvn --version" and tell me what it says for platform encoding?

No. It is cringe shit

UTF7

How long can an intel cpu maintain turbo boost? If I have my 8700k clocked at 4.5GHz, but the boost is 4.7, am I being retarded?

how the fuck am I meant to read a csv file in to matlab properly? I can have it read the file, but it treats each individual column as a single column

It's time to upgrade my PC, which is currently built for 1080p. Is the jump to 4k (or even 1440) worth it if I also play a lot of older games? For example CS 1.6 or old-school RTS games

What are your current specs?

i5 4440
GTX 970
16 GB RAM

isn't it meant too? or do you mean it treats them as an individual column vector?

I have an LG 24MP58VQ-P and a Cambridge Audio Azur 540r that I have to put under the monitor. Are there any third party stands that would allow me to fix the monitor to the back of the desk (this monitor doesn't support VESA)?
If not, would it be okay to simply rest the monitor on top of the receiver? Would it affect cooling too much?

How the hell do you watch VR porn on a smartphone? All of the players are buggy adware.

so?

Can you still make money making apps or is it too saturated now?

Assuming you can is it better to make something with ads or something you have users pay you for directly? Probably depends a lot on what you're trying to make but I mean in general which approach seems more successful?

it's cool, I got it to work but it was being a real piece of shit about it. I'd read in a csv file with 57 rows and 11 columns but I'd get a cell array of 57x1 with all the data from those 11 columns grouped in to 1

Why is racism considered a bad thing?

should invest my life saving into bitcoin ?

Attached: bammm.jpg (200x281, 15K)

Should be fine just sticking the monitor on top.

If you have a good idea, and can execute it well, and market well, there's good money to be made. If you just do something that already exists or nobody cares about, or do it badly, or don't market it well, you're screwed, some random in india could've done that far cheaper than you.

So my speaker jack fell out, i put it back in and now youtube videos and games have no sound *but* the sound test and my music player do work. How fix?

Is it socially acceptable to wear a diaper to the movies in case I need to piss in the middle of it?

I bought as new HDD since old one was full and now I have to reinstall Windows.
I only like Windows 7, which version does Jow Forums recommend?

If you only like windows 7, then just get windows 7 ultimate.

I'm starting a bunch of coding courses and was planning on slapping Linux on my computer. What's a good distro for that, maybe with a bit of a lean to a beginner. I don't have Linux experience but I'd rather not pick up the playschool version and then have to switch to another more advanced one down the road. Is it even better to learn on Linux? Should I dual boot?

I'd just stick with Windows until there's some specific reason you need to be in Linux. For the most part it's not really necessary.

Can a 940m run a 1440p screen? I know I won't be able to play games in that resolution, just wondering if I would be able to comfortably do normalfag activities

I only opened this thread because i like that amerimutt

Check the recommended models on their website

Procreation. The rest is spirituality mixed with hollywood propaganda.

Magic marker a swastika and pretend it was a prison tattoo. That'll flip out your friends.

Indoctrination.

Attached: 1509276498672.png (627x476, 414K)

I don't think procreation can really be called a point. It's more of just a mechanism really. It's like saying the point of a river is to get water from some higher place to a lower place. You're really just describing what that thing does, not the thing's purpose.

5-10% higher than what you really want

I know, but I was in a situation where I couldn't use a regular security cam and left a regular camera recording.

I need a new phone.
Is there a quiz or form I can fill out with the features I want/need, and get a list of phones that meet those prerequisites?

/d/ says yes.

Depends what kind of ports you have on the laptop and on the screen. Can use DVI dual link, but that's pretty rare on laptops, HDMI 1.3/1.4, but that's kinda rare on 1440p monitors, or DisplayPort.

There's very rarely anything that you need a specific distro for, most of the time it's just personal preference. I'd start with ubuntu. You can run Linux inside a VM or use Windows Subsystem for Linux if you want instead of jumping into using it as your main OS.

One million dollars.

ask /csg/

gsmarena has decent feature filter

I have a website A that needs to display another website B inside, with B being in the same local network as A but not public reachable. Also no reverse proxy as it would expose B to everyone that knows the URL. Is this even possible, Jow Forums ?

i'm not really sure, pretty much the only security camera software i'm aware of is zoneminder, which supports capturing only movement, but i'm not sure if it can process an existing video for movement
one obvious thing is to simply play the video at high speed (for example, use mpv and press '[' and ']' to adjust playback speed, also ',' and '.' for frame step for if you do find something and want to pinpoint it)

The point of all life is procreation. Otherwise there is no life. It's the only point. Everything else is filler based upon philosophy.

Is there an unfucked Android version of Chrome that doesn't make apps like Twitter and Discord unusable?

Chrome 65 apparently disallowed taking screenshots in incognito mode and that's some gaynigger shit, so I downloaded 64 to downgrade. I found out by doing so, several apps including Steam, Twitter, and Discord would crash on start. Updating back to Chrome 65 or whatever the current version is fixed it immediately.

Not my problem that your dad runs his shit on old hardware.
You are talking about reliability? and yet your dad chooses his NAS becasue MUH DESIGN?
Unless his tranferring ultra important stuff, a bunch of drives can provide you and useful solution.
It seems that you dont know shit about how to transport HDDs safely and reliably.
Gigabit eth is 125MB/s and thats is NOT taking into account the different protocols overhead
If the source and destination server is not on the same physical location you either need the NAS or a business class internet dedicated connection. But I guess you dont have that because you are speaking of doing the transfer twice.

What exactly is this botnet that everyone speaks of?

All of it? FUCK NO
but a golden rule for investments, or so they say, is INVEST ONLY WHAT YOU ARE ABLE TO LOSE.
He had recently another virtual currency hax a la mt gox. So if you dont know shit about cybersecurity its best not to invest on that, because you are some steps away from a hacker that wants your bitcoin and can take it without leaving a trace.
Ubuntu is nice and comfy but its DE can be burdensome on basic VM deployments. I use Lubuntu to do such things, runs nicely on 1gig of ram less than 10 gig of hdd and 1 processor, the DE is superlean without all the bells and whistles that impress morons.

Why after 2/3 months do every single fucking pair of headphones I buy go one audio channel only after moderate use?
I must have gone through 300 pairs of these fucking things in my life and they just keep fucking breaking.
Is there any fucking pair of earbuds that are resistant to the ultimate task of being stored in my pocket? I can't keep doing this.

Buy a headphone stand and stop bending the headstrap or treating them like shit. My ATH-M50x have lasted 4+ years same with my MDRV6.

W7 here

Is it possible to put some kind of lock onto the eject a drive thing, just in case i misclick or something.

I should have clarified I mean earbuds.
I have good ass headphones at home that I keep on a stand and i've only lost one pair in 10 years.

search on the wikipedia man
but since we are on SQT
A botnet is abunch of computers that are commanded by servers to do shit, usually eeeeveil shit like DDoS attacks.
In Jow Forums's context a program, app or OS being a botnet means that it shares data with its creators, like facebook, chrome, windows 10's telemetry, etc.
Whats the problem with that? That most of the time you probably want some control about the data you share, and Im sure as fuck you didnt knew that FB grabs your phone's call logs and SMS's.
