People who relearn an ergodox/ ortholinear or other meme layout and keep the QWERTY layout shit me. Why not switch to an optimised layout while you're at it?
Lucas Reyes
because switching from ortholinear to normal layout isn't that big of a deal
Jose Nelson
following up on this post from last thread: ya, i already ordered a huge pile of testers from novel keys. still wanna get some opinions in though.
Christopher Bailey
thats the wrong post. i meant this:
Thomas Garcia
looks shit
Benjamin Morales
because i don't type on my ergodox, i only game with it
Matthew Edwards
probably thats the year that user started thinking about mech keyboards and he felt like it was also when everybody else did
Logan Russell
>this hard baiting your deserved (you)
Daniel Hughes
not even bait
i have a normal keyboard for typing on, and the left half of an ergodox for playing games with
just bought this for $23. Never used a mechanical before and this is probably trash but hopefully it can help me decide if I want to put the money into a proper one or not
what exactly you mean by you made. is it hand wired and you made that case?
James Mitchell
Just get a Ducky One RGB instead
Evan Jenkins
yep
Liam Lee
looks very professional, could you show photos of that case?
Jason White
It was my first go at anything like this, i had never soldered before etc so i'd do it slightly different and maybe a bit fancier, if i ever did it again, but its been good for years now I might never get around to it It's just a metal plate ordered online with case made from MDF and spray painted, its a little rougher here in this photo I've since resprayed it & wiring ain't too crash hot but like i said, first time and it hasn't failed yet.
multiple layers, it does work as an enter when i need it to
Hunter Richardson
Looks good, even though in my opinion backlighting is a bit useless if the symbols on the keys aren't translucent. Hope I can find one for a decent price in Europe.
A bud of mine said where he's working is throwing it away and doesn't know if it's worth anything. The way the keys are laid out makes me think it's some kind of Model M clone but I could be wrong.
Finally I found a good successor to my Cherry Xtream with scissor membrane keys, which is a mech keyboard with the new low profile Kailh Blue switches.
Ryder Fisher
If you buy cheap chinkshit, it will work like cheap chinkshit. If you think the switches feel bad or the keycaps start getting ruined it might be time to upgrade.
Leo Jenkins
How are kailh box switches? thinking of getting a CK61
Yes imho. Box whites are very nice switches. I don't know about the quality of the keyboard overall, but the switches are very nice.
Mason Wright
Is it worth it to buy a Unicomp Classic? I finally want to try out buckling springs but don't wanna deal with trying to find a model M for a good price
>Budget $100, give or take >Location (continent at least) Yorup >Preferred switch type Im a brown fag >Layout UK or US, I will just adapt to either >Form factor TKL >Backlight Any >Previous/current keyboards Rubber shit-dome
there's so much hair in here stuck between the switches and the little brackets. How the hell do i get all this out?
Michael Davis
You buy a new keyboard.
Connor Ortiz
I first time baough a model M about a year ago for work and is the best keyboard ever for me, quality wise and the feeling of typing if you like heavy switches.
I liked it so much I also got one for home!
Not good for gaming though, for gaming I use a Logitech Orion with Cherry MX Red
I just don't know which one to get since they changed a bit throughout the years, don't know whats a good price, don't know whether to buy new or used.
Tbh I also really like the black and gray unicomps, the only reason I'm hesitating is I don't know how they really are quality wise
Mechanical keyboards seem like one of those things that once you try you can't go back. I'll get used to it at home and there's no way I will be able to convince work to buy me one.
Aren't you living in hell at work when you have a nice mech at home? Right now I'm in blissful ignorance writing on a mushy Dell piece of shit at work.
Leo Johnson
I do. It's not like I type a lot on my work computer, so while it's not really great, it's not really a bother.
Justin Gutierrez
>has a job >cheaps out and doesn't buy a good keyboard for work what
Caleb Cruz
>He doesn't work from home Must suck having to concede such small personal freedoms just because you have to go into an office everyday.
Aiden Wood
I don't control what my job buys. We only just got them to replace our shitty 10 year old screens and awful chairs.
I could take a keyboard in, but then I'll be "that guy" who brought in an expensive weird keyboard that makes loud clicking noises and pisses everyone off.
I mean I am considering it anyway, I'm not gonna lie. I'll start at home though.
Angel Williams
just get quiet switches for work...
Connor Taylor
beauty of mechanical keyboards is all the switch options for different needs.
membrane is only marginally useful for FPS were ur holding down 2-3 buttons to the bottom, and that membrane is kinda acting as a cushion.
Thomas Clark
So why are redditors always posting meme boards with no function keys, no numpad, no number row, blank keys, rgb tacticool lights? Just redditors being fags as usual?
Andrew Harris
People are biting into the minimalist meme a little too hard.
Brody Miller
I want to get the loudest switches to annoy my coworkers, I use a computer daily, but don’t type on it that much
Josiah Brown
I bring a variety of keyboards in to work, even clicky. I prefer using clears at work though, no one gives a shit.
No seriously though, I'm deep cleaning this thing. Ive got most of the dirt out and im soaking and scrubbing the keycaps with dish soap and warm water. But how do I get out all the little bits of hair wedged under everything?
Cooper Smith
any one else wanna pitch in?
Luis Rogers
Not a problem for me. I have a large desk and try to use the mouse as little as possible.
I'm into heavy typing, programming, not gaymen. I tried to learn touch typing but on a membrane piece of shit it feels so horrible resting your fingers on mush and having no feedback, so I stick to my self taught bash the keys from above technique.
So I assume I want something tactile and non-linear for that reason?
Elijah Perez
Are the HUB keycaps worth investing in? It seems super cheap and the color sets look super nice
Nolan Parker
Go on your local hardware store and try out some keyboards, that's how I chose my style
