R400s are compatible with Libreboot, right?

Well shit I can’t flip it since my computer is disassembled you’ll just have to deal with that

Can I replace the monitor/bezel on a T430s with a T420's?

it's shit even when flashed
I mean, it works, but feels like a juryrig

I don't like it

for me it's the x201

Attached: IMG_0184.jpg (4032x3024, 1.12M)

was piss ez, dont follow the stupid guide just remove the wrist thing and pop it in.

so about that chink iris mod for the t440p, anyone try it yet?
other than the one redditor?

does it really just work or are there any hiccups, even minor?

That's an X201i, you absolute poorfag! LMAO!

user please.

Someday I might switch to that. Do the extra keys mess with the EC flash?

(For now I'm just using sharp keys, but it would be useful to know for the future)

Is it ok for seaBios to invert some colors on my x220?

What keyboard is that, and will it work with a T450s?

Looks like a xX20 keyboard which is somewhat compatible with xX30 pads, see thinkwiki.org/wiki/Install_Classic_Keyboard_on_xx30_Series_ThinkPads

>will it work with a T450s?
I doubt it.

Looking for a new laptop to last me 5-10 years (current Macbook has lasted me 6 and going, but is exhibiting signs of slow down).
Looking for:
-Buying new
-At least 15"
-At least 1440p, preferably 2160p
-At least 1TB in HD, with at least a hybrid drive SSD
-Premium build quality
-16+ GB of RAM
-Dedicated graphics card
Budget's pretty much through the roof; reliability/specs are far more important to me than saving a few bucks here or there. This is going to be my daily driver (travel for work, desktops are useless to me). Want to be able to play decent amount of games with it.
My problem is that all the Thinkpads I can find with decent gfx are the stupid gamer line, which have shitty aesthetics and don't come in any res higher than 1080p. Do the /tpg/ gurus know if I'm missing something?

Anything P series, p50 and up is very, very fast, p71 is faster but you're paying premium price.

P51?

How often does the fan spin up on the x230?

very quick question. When disassembling the T420 to access the heat sink, is all you need a standard philips head screwdriver? or do you need to special smaller ones for tiny screws?

Thanks, I must have missed them before.

Is there a reason the P71s go for such an upcharge? Configuring them both with Xeons, the price difference is like $2.5k vs $4.5k.

How much would you guys pay for an x220 with 125 gb ssd, 8gb ram, TN panel?

It happens with all top of the line models, you can wait till next generation an the P5x will be discontinued while the P7x will be at the P5x price.

Nothing, if i'm buying an used laptop i usually throw away the HDD and put a new SSD in, older SSD had bad longevity and newer are so fast you don't know how much data has gone through.
Unless you show me the SMART stats or prove that the SSD is new i'm not having it.

k well for us non autists can you ball park it?

150~200 USD for the I5 and around 250 for the I7.

What time of the year does Lenovo refresh?

Also, I thought the difference between the P5s and the P7s was that P5s were 15" and P7s were 17" - at least, I couldn't find any 17" P5s or 15" P7s on their website.

Oh right, i got my series confused, is the pX0 vs pX1.

I think they do a yearly refresh but i can't find the release date for the newer models.

Yeah, I've had issues finding those dates as well.

Currently I'm trying to decide between X1 Carbons, XPS15 2-in-1, Spectre x360 2-in-1, and possibly a P51/52.

The thing that kills me more than anything on the P51/52 is how heavy they are - getting everything I want for $2600 is definitely in range, but 6+ pounds is kind of hard when I travel as much as I do.

The carbons are nice, posting from a 3rd gen right now, but you're limited to soldered ram and M.2 SSD only with integrated graphics.
The problem with workstation class laptops is that they provide enough cooling to avoid throttling the CPU and GPU thus the heavy weight.

Soldered RAM is fine since I don't mind paying Lenovo's prices. The GPU problem is as you say, though; ideally I'd like a ~3-4ish pound laptop with a lower-end gfx card.

How good are Intel's integrated graphics nowadays? Can they push 2x 4k display (internal+external) with normal usage?

vPro's are very decent, they can handle any DE on 4k, dunno about 2x 4k but it can handle CS:Go, stellaris, civ5 and some other light games at 1080p.

big guy or tiny computer?

Thanks for answering all my questions, user. Do you know if they can push 4k video? I know my current dedicated has trouble pushing normal res video on a 4k display, let alone actual 4k.

Both.

Attached: 090906-frack001.jpg (640x409, 84K)

Pretty sure up-scaling is harder than native playback but in any case my i7-5600U can handle both.

Is there a 1440p panel for t440p?

what about now?

Attached: IMG_0230.rotated.jpg (3024x4032, 1.4M)

>Pretty sure up-scaling is harder than native playback
That explains so much, hahaha.

What are the big differences between the Carbon and the Yoga (other than the fact that one's a 2-in-1)?

What's that you're reading?

None, you even have some Carbons with touch screens, also one thing i forgot, avoid 2nd gen X1 they're shit.

are you just holding the screen frame of a x201 in front of your x201i?

Lab 257: The Disturbing Story of the Government's Secret Germ Laboratory
yeah. my screen died and it was cheaper buying a lid + screen than just a screen. it came with a x201i bezel,

whats the difference between x201 and x200?

x200 come with core 2 duos while x201 come with core i series. you can install trannyboot on x200 if that tickles your fancy, you cant do it on x201.

X201 uses 1st gen Core cpu's
X200 has Core2 Duo, and no trackpad.

difference between x201 and x220? resoulution? trackpad? leds?

don't know about x220 but x200 and x201 got an ips aftermarket option
x200 has libreboot also

both have soldered cpus

x201 16:10 ratio 1280x800. if you can get a x200s/x201s then you can get 1440x900 screen res. you can have a trackpad or not.

there's a chinkmod that use the x201 as base and upgrades the cpu to something more modern. and 1920x1200 screen. it's called x210

x220 has a 16:9 1366x768 res. s you can mod it have 1080p screen,

x220 has isp screen too, it can have an msata drive too

thanks :)

I've had many thinkpads, and now I'm looking for something that's ultraportable, able to stream video and dirt cheap. Will the x200 do the job? or do I need an x220?

Is the Yoga 920 any good? It has a bunch of good reviews, but it's not specifically recommended by the header.

Do all your keys work? did you have to replace the palmrest/trackpad as well to get the x220 keyboard into the x230

user that's a t430.

I'm looking for a laptop that'll be primarily used for editing but also capable of playing games at a goodish setting. I'm thinking the P51 might be a good choice but don't know much about its graphics card setup and how it differs from typical 960M or w/e it's based on.

Also are the screens suited for video editing or would I be better off with another laptop? I have a larger monitor but it would be nice to have a good screen if I ever need to edit away from home.

Sperg user from last thread, my fucking trackpoint nipple has almost all its grip gone and the chinkshit ones I ordered aren't going to come until late fucking April to Early May, so I'm stuck using this dogshit flat clit of a trackpoint

What FRU? Is that chicony?

Yoga 920 isn't recommended because it isn't even a ThinkPad.
An IdeaPad isn't a ThinkPad

Lenovo uses Yoga for any of their laptops that have a folding screen, & most of their tablets.

ThinkPad Yoga is recommended, there are different ones, some with a pen.

I don't know much about them further than that.

me on the left

X220 is a better choice
X200 will struggle with streams.

Lenovo is bad at release dates. They are always pushed back for Workstations.
The W540 was released like 3 months after the Dell M6800

You can always try to sand it off, it's fucked already so there's nothing to loose.

Dear /tpg/
Why should I _not_ get an x220 tablet?

Just got a x240 only ever see x220/x230s on hear. how bad did I mess up

Can someone explain why it's deemed impossible to get t420 keyboard capslock led working in a t430? The led is in the keyboard and its connected to the motherboard using the same connecter.

I know the touch pad is a issue for some anons is there anything else that I should look out for ??

kys and then go back where you came from

Want to upgrade the screen on my x201, where can I get th 1440p screen?

You might be able to upgrade to FHD, but I've never done it so I don't know if you need an LCD cable or a different lid.

I think X240 have one ram slot soldiered. Other than that haven't really looked it up. Better battery than the X230, maybe less CPU performance due to haslel but I wouldn't care (compared to X230).

Too old for it.
Learn to DIY mod an uncompatible screen if u don't like my answer.

Where's the best place to buy a genuine battery for my x201?

T580 with 4k fits except the HDD, i'm not entirely sure but it might be possible to have an HDD there aswell. option to get a battery lasting 15+ hours aswell

T480 seems like the generation that's worth buying over previous ones, the german notebook check undervolted the shit out of the T480s and it has perfomance literally double to triple last gen, it's basically 7th gen HQ processor with 15 TDP

where can go to stock up on T420 9-cells?

Attached: 1444513717833.jpg (253x229, 48K)

I haven't played vidya in ages; I just want to have the option (though I am fond of VNs).
Thanks user, I'm pretty sure this fits my requirements perfectly. I can just upgrade to 1TB SSD on that model, so there's no problem there.
I'm tempted to wait and see if they update it after they kill the numpad on certain 15" models later this year, though (the offcentering would likely trigger my autism, but it's not a dealbreaker).
How apparent/annoying are the "bumps" from upgrading the battery?

Request for my aussie bros

Looking for a new or used laptop to gift to my mate during his rehab stay just needs to be cheap and nasty to let him learn some programming and browse while he is bed bound.

-Buying new/used
-13"+ preferred
-1080p screen would be great but not a concern
-128gb+ HDD would be great SSD's a plus
-Okay build quality
-4 to 8gb of ram
-Budget graphics card

looking to spend $100-$300 AUD max

Cheers in advance bois

Forgot to specify that yes Thinkpad is preferred

surely that was implied in a thinkpad general

>X220
Gotta cover all those bases sometimes user

got myself an X60t which distro can you recommend for it?

Attached: Senpai.jpg (720x386, 68K)

I got a T420s off Ebay that fits all of those criteria except screen - 14" 16:9 900p, so close enough? 250 auspost'd to my door, with 8gb ram and a 128 SSD.

You should be able to find a 420/520 on ebay fairly easily. Also, check gumtree - search for "thinkpad" and "lenovo" seperately. People who've listed thinkpads as "lenovo laptop" are fucking easy to screw over on the price because they clearly have no idea of what they're trying to sell - lowball hard.

Void.

Any Anons have thinkpdas with classic keyboard and nip layout? Post some pics please.

Thanks user i just checked gumtree and its a goldmine.

Anons, I’d like to install a classic keyboard on my X230 is it possible? If so can someone kindly link me to the parts?

who is that cutie

Hey user i found a ThinkPad R61 for $150 with

Intel Core 2 Duo T8100 2.1GHz
120gb HDD
4GB ram DDR2
14.1" WXGA LED (1280 x 800 resolution) display

Would this be a decent purchase?

>being this lazy

No

its $150 AUD if that makes any difference
What makes the r61 shit?

I got L420 for 100€ with

Intel i5-2520m
8gb ddr3
320gb hdd
9-cell battery
90w and 65w chargers
Docking station

How did i do?

They're cool if you're a weeb, and they're pretty rare now that they've been shilled on Jow Forums, at least for older models.

Why didn't you buy a real Thinkpad?
