Kill yourself

>12 core AMD and 8 core Intel next year

Not possible on AM4 though.

>But AMD dont make you change motherboard each new gen

AM4 will be supported until 2021

2020*

like windows 7?

ok dad

Does your cpu auto overclock to 3.2ghz?

>buying new

Dual core is all you need.

>not 8 core

>dual core
What do you one core for? You'll hear from my lawyer about that half core.

Two cores? THREE ?
EIGHT???????????????????????

MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOODS

AM4+

> 16mb l3

what is this meme processor

Most CPU intensive I do is Jow Forumsayming so going for anything more than 6 cores (if it's 8700K), would be counter-productive for me.

Besides, a way back my daily driver used to be laptop with Intel i5 5200U (2c/4t) and it was just fine for everything I wanted. I couldn't play new games but I bet I could have if I had a way to use an external GPU.

But not a threadlet, you'll still beat modern i5s.

>Not waiting a decade to get a high end computer for a 10th of its current price

the only consumer application I can think of is being an autist and having a million tabs open in firedox.

>6c/12t
You're good my man.

>waiting a decade
Or you could just wait until you die and hope you'll incarnate in a new universe where another human-like species created quantum computers with infinite ipc

Or just 3 tabs in Google Chrome

Sounds logical to me.

That's not the problem. Fitting 2 Zeppelins into AM4 is just not feasible.

I don't play a lot of games anymore because I started making money with my PC. I'm glad AMD is back, I can't imagine doing what I do with 4 or 6 cores. I was thinking about upgrading to thread ripper.

But my FX6350 has 6 cores and 6 threads, am I s-safe guys ?

this is me with chrome, 16gb ram and i5-6600k gets me going

the only reason to get intel is literally cooler mounts.
the amd mounts, fuck if i know why, just look so ugly on literally any CLC ever, especially on corsair

I bought an athlon x4 845 and so far only 2 videogames reach 90% CPU load.
When my programming IDE reaches 90% load, I'll buy a new processor (15 years from now).

Wishful thinking that's all. Nothing more than that.

Well, there's rumored 8 core CCX for Zen 3

TR4 can support 20 cores

Phenom > FX

Yes.
3.75 single
3.2 all

No, I don't know why they sell it as 3.00Ghz base clock.

pathetic

Why would you need 16 fucking cores? What are you running a nuclear reactor? If it's for gaymes and shit then that's way overkill

>windows

>Maybe he makes money with his PC

Maybe he's not a manchild?

They're only starting zen 2 now how can you have info of zen 3?

Sure it is. There's plenty of room on the PCB with some shuffling. Threadripper is only so fucking huge because they're repurposed EPYC chips with half the thing disabled (or two "dummy" dies if you believe that). It only really needs to be half the size it is.

Attached: AMD-Ryzen-7-1700-Delidded-1.jpg (800x699, 108K)

>What are you running a nuclear reactor
while i do work for the navy and run one of their reactors for them, they wont let me replace all of instrumentation with my computer.

i tried.

>dummy dies
pcgamer.com/amd-exec-describes-threadrippers-dummy-dies-as-basically-rocks/
>He also cleaned up the dies and discovered that even the non-functioning ones contained integrated circuits and transistors. This suggested that AMD wasn't being entirely truthful about the use of dummy dies, and some speculated that it might somehow be possible to enable the two non-functioning dies.
Seems like a waste of money though right?

>>when I upgraded I thought 6 cores was the tits
It was nice back in 2013 when I went to six cores

upgraded to a 1950X last year because I was sick of long build times

>Seems like a waste of money though right?
Yes, AMD processors are crap.

muh nibba

for installing gentoo, obviously

2200 G is still good for office
Meanwhile:

Wouldn't that CPU be severely bottlenecking the GPU

Its bottlenecking everything, everything lags and shutters
I dont even dare to play anything than AOEI, which is the only thing that runs butter smooth on this shitthing

Lol what the fuck you doing with a 1080ti then?

waiting for zen to launch

Zen's out grandpa

Zen is out. You're talking about Zen+
get your shit together

>>tfw 6-core
>>when I upgraded I thought 6 cores was the tits
>>in the very near future I will be a corelet

don't worry, Zen 2 will be late 2019 at best and top out at 12c.
the real humiliation of Zen 2+/3 with 16c won't hit until maybe as late as 2021.

>they're repurposed EPYC chips with half the thing disabled (or two "dummy" dies if you believe that)
>even the non-functioning ones contained integrated circuits and transistors. This suggested that AMD wasn't being entirely truthful about the use of dummy dies, and some speculated that it might somehow be possible to enable the two non-functioning dies.

jesus christ this fake news will never die.
the "dummy" dies are just random binned rejects. the TR substrate itself is not the same as Epyc, since TR actually uses a double GMI/IFOP link between the two good dies, and Epyc uses a fully connected 4-way mesh of single links between each die pair. A TR can never be, and never was an Epyc in any form due to fundamentally differently wired substrate. (source: AMD's 2018 ISSCC presentation.) fuck knows why they chose to use intact Zeppelin dies for this instead something simpler though.

There is probably still a scheduler problem somewhere, this is what my HW monitor looks like after 7 days and 18hrs 44 mins

I've not hit it with any kind of synthetic load during this time. 3.953ghz is from XFR all core of 3.825ghz

Attached: ryzen.png (440x491, 21K)

uh, the only thing I do now that uses all 4 cores of my Phenom II x4 955 is the occasion video encode job. My games are all older titles which only use 1 core. Now my server is different mater, it's got an 8 core (FX 8300).

How? Even basic installations will draw 100 % off my Phenom 9600. I have a 975, but its shit due to the 800 Mz max.

What are you doing that requires all that CPU threading? Looks nice and even loaded, super comfy.

Attached: 1262181374588.png (105x108, 19K)

Got my 1800x for like 10 months now, hopefully the x470 motherboards will support the older gen well

they should be backwards and forwards compatible

I know, but so far i haven't personally had the best experience when it comes to BIOSes for example (me with msi), i also heard similar stories about other vendors so I'm pretty sure it relies on AMD aswell, though with enough pressure they seem to get things done.

I bought at launch and got stuck with a Biostar X370 GT7. It's been an incredibly solid board, even came with a free 240GB SSD, but I understand the BIOS growing pains.

yea it is mong

Threadripper is really tempting, but I have no idea what to do with 16 cores

The only thing that uses all my cores is rendering

forgot pic
removed the oc for superior temps, not sure what fan i should get
i have 3 ml120 lying around, should i get a megalem cooler and equip them?

Blender and handbrake usually use every thread, between 80-90%

I've got all the cores I need.

Servers do the heavy lifting, desktop does desktop stuff.

fuck off, you only need 4 cores and 4 threads. I guarantee it will remain the standard for the next 10 years.

>everything benefits from more mediocre coars than it does with a handful of strong corns

cuz we all use those apps all day long all the time

that's pretty much the logic with intel's new line of cpus. that and the fact it uses 150w

if streaming hadnt become a meme this MAOR CORNZ shit would never of flown

yes you are user

Do you play vidya all day?

install gentoo

Try harder

Another happy day with AMD, can't believe its been a year since ryzen came out. Creating content with this has been a silky smooth experience.
