You're the reason Jow Forums is a cesspool
Very difficult to enjoy. It's best for games where you don't need to use the touchpads.
By telling /v/eddit to fuck off?
it's fucking shit

Performance is where it shines, comfort is where it depends.
Performance wise, the controllers touch pads have passable accuracy and latency, I wouldn't use it for anything that needs quick and accurate movements, so casual games is where it's best, but it is accurate enough that I aim better than on a regular controller.
Comfort is meh, because it has a concave shape rather than convex, which works because of the track pads but takes some getting used to, and puts off others completely. The touch pad (that I can find) doesn't have a analogue emulation mode, so I find myself flicking to move cameras around in third person games, which is inconsistent (to me.)
In other words, pick it up if you need a controller for the rare few titles you'll want to play with one, otherwise you might be better off with a regular ps or Xbox controller because of the analogue sticks.
Fight games are a big no as well due to the concave shape, putting your index finger on the buttons is nigh impossible unless you have yaoi hands.
It's pretty decent. Takes a while to get used to but it's decent afterwards, as long as the game is OK with it
I like it quite a bit, played through the old Thief games with it recently. It's pretty comfortable for casual browsing and similar stuff on the desktop as well. Using SC Controller instead of Steam to configure it.
Love it
It's good for what it promises. Delivering keyboard and mouse oriented PC games to the couch with easy configuration. Most games have good community keybindings.
When emulating a mouse I like to set the touchpad to quite high sensitivity and enable gyro mouse. This allows quick movement with the touchpad and precision aiming with gyro.
I like it far better for 1st person games than xbox controller.
I found it... not great. Many games require the usage of two analog sticks, and using the touchpad instead just doesn't work well. I currently use it in the living room whenever I play a movie from my laptop on the TV, as a remote. Using the generic desktop keybinding, and that's more than enough to navigate files and pause/play the movie.
Later bought a DS4 to actually play controller-favoring games on my desktop.
It's shit. I literally have to force myself to find a problem it solves. The PS4 or XBONE controller work 100% of them time. Get this if you have autism, you'll love configuring it to kind of work almost as good as the DS4.
By trying to be a gatekeeping fuck
I like it for couch surfing and controlling my desktop from the couch. Gaming wise, its not my favorite. I find the touchpads clumsy and would prefer dual sticks instead. That being said, it does its job and is an interesting addition to controllerland
>>>/lgtb/
It's pretty good in my experience. Even for during non-gaming things, if I'm across the room on my bed I can use it to select between videos to watch or whatever.
The only thing that bugs me is that the support for it between games can be spotty, or setting it up a bit of a chore.
the d-pad is not good for fighting games
I love mine. Probably one of the best options for couch surfing out there. The software is very good.
I play stellaris with it quite comfortably on the couch. Any slower pace game should be fine with it. Obviously though games designed for controllers would benefit from a traditional controller though.
ayy
Bought it, played a few games. Somehow I enjoyed platformers on it because you can just configure the left pad thing to act as a d-pad and then dance around with your thumb and it kinda works, played a few games like that.
But then I realized there must be a better controller so I bought the xbox one and it's pretty much perfection. Especially for modern titles that rely heavily on gamepads. Also fits into hands very perfectly, the Steam one is kinda awkward to use by comparison
It's ok. Fills a niche that some people swear is better than conventional controllers. I still prefer Xbox 360 or XBone controller. Standard inputs that are the default layout for 99% of titles on PC. No gimmicks. I saw someone play Dark Souls 3 with the steam controller and by watching their hands, it took like 2 button presses and a swipe of the left touchpad to switch weapons. Too complicated for its own good in some aspects.
its my only backup for when my gf comes over and uses my silent sanwai ;3 and makes me play her over and over
>
>best when you don't use the main gimmick of the controller
Good job valve
I love it for casual singleplayer games, I use mouse and keyboard for anything multiplayer fps.
Great for dark souls 3 ive found, and lets you play shit like command and conquer with a controller.
It takes one tap of the d pad to switch weapons on the steam controller, just like the xbone
Would this be good for playing cities skylines in bed?
i already have a steam link from when it was 90% off at christmas
we got this instead of hl3
Doesn't it require you to run games through Steam to use it?
Shits great for tinkering with to make it work for you. D-Pad is garbage as a D-Pad though. Battery life is pretty damn good. The haptics are really good and responsive
It's good for moving a cursor, takes a lot of time and effort to learn to play FPS/3PS on.
The sticks and analog dual stage triggers are great, and so is the customization, but you can't search for layouts.
The build quality is way better than it looks. I feared it would feel cheap and awful, but it's actually quite nice, very robust.
Sadly no rechargeable batteries, so I play wired.
The biggest issue is that you think you have way more control with the pads, but it's the same issue as a regular joystick. With a mouse, you have like 13 different joints and several different muscles for a variety of movements, with the SC, you still only have your thumb. Gyro aim is decent.
I think it's best for what it's designed to do, a lightweight KB+M alternative for couch gaming. Wouldn't really recommend for switching out your Xbox/PlayStation controller at your desk.
The Steam controller seems to be a love it or hate it sort of thing. I really do believe that a lot of the people that say it's shit either tried to push it into a role where it wasn't well suited, or used it for 5 minutes and didn't get used to it.
It has a niche it tries to fulfill, and I'd say it fulfills that niche pretty well--that is, being a jack-of-all-trades controller that allows you to effectively play your PC games with a controller. For certain games, I would say I absolutely prefer it to a conventional controller--such as for certain shooters like DOOM or Killing Floor (I wouldn't recommend using it for competitive shooters like some retards do), or strategy games that make heavy use of the mouse. One big thing I think a lot of people overlook is the gyroscope--it's phenomenal for games like FPSes. You can use the touch pads for general/quick aiming, then the gyroscope to fine tune your aim. It works very well. It also has analog triggers which is nice, as well as two back paddles which are honestly really wonderful buttons, and I wonder why more controllers don't have them.
It's extremely, extremely customizable (as others have mentioned, the software is very good), so you can adapt it to a fuckload of games. This can also be a downside, since sometimes you'll find yourself spending a lot of time tweaking the controls (although typically every game has a bunch of predefined community layouts you can use). You can really do some neat shit with the customization options--for example, binding a save state or weapon select menu to one of the touch pads.
It does fall short in some areas. It's awkward to get used to at first (especially the placement of the face buttons). For games that require a controller in the first place, I tend to feel that an actual controller is best. For instance, although Souls games are very playable on it, I'd prefer a 360 controller. For retro games that need a D-Pad, you DEFINITELY want a controller with one.
lmao
No, but without steam you can't remap the buttons, and they also aren't remapped unless steam is running.
It's hard to tell where center on right touchpad is. It would be much better if they've made tactile dot in center, without it it's hard to control camera.
It's decent if you sit on a couch and don't want to use a mouse and keyboard. You need to use it often, otherwise it will never feel right. I mainly just use it occasionally for gyro steering in driving games.
I guess it's pretty hit or miss, but I like mine a lot
it's comfortable for my hand size and feels pretty natural to use, although there are some major flaws
the d-pad is really finnicky and the trackpad behaves kind of weirdly, takes a lot of getting used to
DS4 >>>>>> Steam Controller.
kill yourself faggot
will the 360 controller ever be dethroned?
In theory, the Xbox One controller seems better. It has some different improvements, and most notably, it improves upon the abhorrent d-pad the original 360 controller had (its greatest fault, imo).
However, I've never actually looked into it much or used one, so I can't really comment. Maybe it's worse, for all I know.
I'd say yes, its great for casual games in my experience.
Get the Elite controller. Its the best there is
I'd consider it, but I've heard it has some questionable quality control.
D pad is shit, touch screen is shit
I find the pads work well for aiming in top-down games, but fail at mostly everything they promised. The rest of the controller is amazing though.
Best controller for 3rd person shooters
GTA and MGS5 don't properly support it and never will
It occupies space in my drawer
i sold mine (for close to the purchase price, thanks to soy)
Half of the features are a gimmick. The right pad is inferior to both a mouse and a stick and the orientation controls are wtf stupid.
Ther ergonomics were ok, overall the build just felt less nice than a console controller.
Also how many games to you honestly play on a pc that are better with any kind of controller? Overall 3/7
>inb4 someone picks on the errors in my poast.
I'm still having mine one year after and rocking
Yeah like factual errors. The touchpad is leagues ahead of an analog stick and you're probably comparing your experience against games with judicious auto aim
except the auto-aim is so universal (part of the console sdk) that it's pointless to exclude it from consideration
