What ever happened to the tablet market?

Tablets literally are just big phones.

Tablets in my opinion are really only useful for digital art. I could be wrong, but I don't think any of the competitors to Apple have any good solutions for digital artists. The iPad Pro with the stylus is a cheaper alternative to dedicated touch-screen graphics tablets that you can plug into your computer. Use with an app like Procreate, and you might not even need a desktop. Although I sometimes transfer over to Photoshop on my computer to do the finishing touches.

Actually there is also Samsung Note line for poor artists. I did have a chance to compare the two (although I'm not an artist) and the iPad stylus does indeed feel better but it's heavier and requires charging. If not for Apple's closed ecosystem, I'd actually prefer the iPad.

You could buy a cheap chink tablet that does exactly the same job - that is none because tablets are any useful only for watching porn in bed and playing games. Actually they are bad for watching porn as well because you need one hand to hold it.

When tablets peaked, the market was full of 10 inch tablets and 3.5 inch smartphones.

Now the market is full of 8 inch tablets and 6 inch smartphones, the differentiation is a lot less obvious

It's there, but not as big as it was before. It was a novelty before and people got them even if they didn't have a real us for them and since they're exactly like phones, just bigger, people started using their phones instead. Then phones got bigger. I got a chuwi hi10 tablet last week with dual boot just to play RuneScape in bed and it's a great tablet. The only reason the iPad looks like it's the only one worth getting is because they have like 5 different commercials for it airing right now while other companies are more focused on their laptops.

The real appeal for tablets are their big ass size. The ipad pro is like 13 inches I think. The people I've seen use it are mostly old people, who use it to read e-books.

I'm worried that no one is buying iPads any longer.

Yeah, My iPad is simply a consumption device. Podcasts (Hypercritical, Accidental Tech Podcast, Cortex), YouTube vids, and .. uh .. occasional websites in Safari.
Not much else.

The phablet phone meme killed them, most phones now are 5-6 inches so whats the point of a 7 inch tablet? This, and the fact that every android tablet after id say 2012 or 2013 had worse specs than a smaller sized phone made them useless. Why get a bigger device for only a few inches of screen length and worse performance?

If you thought Landfill Android only covered phones, then you really really have to take a good look at most Android tablets.
I'd still take an iPad 2 (from 2010) over an Android POS.

Every flagship is 6 inches + octo-core + 1080 screen + 32 GB of internal storage. The average android tablet is weak + 1 GB of internal and most are useless for see videos.

Kindle is good for reading

I have kindle. It's good for regular books but not for a4 pdfs. When you convert them the formatting shits bed and when you don't it's too tiny. Also more than 200 pages and its lagfest. Also kindle has shit resolution.

I got an iPad mini 2 a few years ago as a gift. I'm enrolled in the online college meme and I find it useful to use as a textbook. I also like to watch YouTube and pluralsight with it compared to using my phone. Hearthstone on an tablet is stimulating at best.

Not sure if I would ever buy one when this caps out eventually.

maybe everyone who wants one already has one. why buy a new one when it won't be much different from the one you bought 5 years ago? they are mostly used around the house and are not status symbols like phones or laptop so there's no reason to upgrade.

there's a huawei one that might be useful but the N7 is comfy as fuck, I own one too and use it from time to time to browse the web, do basic shit on the couch

I use my tablet to take handwritten notes every day. Easy way to color-code, highlight, etc. Plus, I can easily erase or move my notes around the page to optimize space. Pretty comfy desu.

Why get a Android tablet when Window tablets are superior and will actually get updates.

Bought an XPS for the touch screen, Kindle Paperwhite for reading. My phone manages everything else.
I just don't have a use for a tablet.

Except the specs are literally the main issue with Android tablets, they're all garbage. Most flagship phones and even midrange ones are better than your average tablet. The only real competitor to iPad is the Surface Pro

I use mine at home, when i don’t feel like being seated at my desk on my PC. A larger screen is much better than a phone screen for youtube and shitposting. Also i can carry it around the house easier than a laptop. The only downside is no webm support

8 to 10 inch tablets are still great for bed entertainment.

I bought the amazon fire tablet on blackfriday for $35 a couple years ago. I mostly just use it to watch tv shows while im in bed before going to sleep. I have amazon prime too so I can watch some tv shows & movies. Have some games on it also and thats about all I use it for.

Its not anything special but for the price is decent & even if anyone steals it it wont be that big a loss.

When the average phone is 6+ inches a 8 inch tablet doesn't make much sense now does it?
