>$10,000 vibranium blocks

Nah, the whole bench was like $30

Completely forgot to check size dimensions, was not expecting it to be so huge. Sounds fantastic, huge step up over the BIC F12 I was using. Easily handles everything I've thrown at it.

Is there a point to having it set up like that?

Spent all his money on his speakers and amp.

the chance of those $2 blocks scratching the shit out of your $5K amp is making me twitch uncontrollably

Im eyeing up buying a yamaha htr 5730 mainly for a replacement headphone amp, but am also going to use it for a budget surround setup in the future. Am i making a mistake?

Forgot to add, $100 canadian is the price

Not even taking into account the new sub, this Puscifer song sounds great altogether. The lower guitar tones are filled out perfectly though.

What headphone amp are you replacing?

Small little S.M.S.L Sd 793 ii. Been having issues with it making a ton of buzzing sounds and some days its unbearable

Driving t50rp mk 3s so i need some decent power

Not sure about the headphone amp, but make sure you use sensitive speakers if you use it for a home theater. That won't power difficult loads very well. 8-ohm nominal high sensitivity speakers should be okay within reason.

This good guys along a pair of Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro.

I can't find much information on the headphone output of that yamaha. Cnet claims 100watts at 6 ohms per channel, but that's for the speaker outputs. I would personally save up more money for a separate headphone amp instead regardless.

great picture quality

It's not my amp, I had it home on loan a couple of months ago.
I built the rack as a temporary rack when I moved in, but I've used it for like 4 years now. But I have a real rack on the way, should be here withing a few weeks.

Bag End subwoofers' main claim to technical fame is the electronic compensation used in the crossover to boost the frequency response below the resonance of a sealed-box speaker. This "dual integrator" is said to be free of the delay introduced by conventional lowpass filters, and it is claimed to produce flat frequency and phase response. Formerly called ELF (Extended Low Frequency), the dual-integrator bass-extension technology has been renamed Infra (not an acronym), with some evolutionary improvements.

One characteristic of the Infra bass-extension technology that has a potential drawback for surround-sound systems is that it uses a fixed crossover frequency (95Hz), and the crossover cannot be bypassed. Since surround preamp-processors and receivers already have a lowpass filter at their subwoofer output, the combination of that filter with the Infra system could lead to some untoward interactions. To avoid these, Bag End suggests running full-range left, center, and right line-level signals to the Infrasub-12's crossover, and then running cables from the three corresponding highpass outputs on the sub to the power amplifiers.

The subject of this review is the Bag End ID18-Pro, which is also referred to sometimes as Infrasub 18 PRO. As its name implies the ID18-Pro is a "professional" subwoofer, primarily used in studios for mastering movie soundtracks and music recording. It can be used in a HT environment as well, provided you're willing to accept the less than standard way it goes about things. The ID18-Pro is an acoustic suspension subwoofer with a single front-firing 18" driver. It measures 23.5"x21.5"x18" (HWD, including grill), so it's certainly not small. However, for a sub that contains an 18" driver it's not terribly large either. It weighs a rather substantial 92lbs, so it isn't a lightweight. The amp is rated at 400 watts 'continuous sine wave', while the frequency response is listed as 8Hz-95Hz, +/-3dB. That's not a typo either; it's rated down to a bone-crunching 8Hz!

Headphones have their uses. I have about four headphones complimenting my speaker setup.

Noice

So close

Are they better in some way?

I was actually considering that rack, but ended up ordering a Quadraspire.
I think that the rocks looks pretty good as well, it's just that it's very cramped now with two poweramps and a dac, the ventilation isn't very good either.

Maybe /ag/ could help me by pointing me in the right direction. I'm looking for a device in the $300-400 range (or less, of course) with the following features:
>decent headphone amp with low-impedance output
>DAC included, with USB and S/PDIF inputs
>at least 1 line-level input (more would be nice)
>fixed-level output
>volume-controlled output (ideally it should turn off when headphones are used)
Does anyone know if something like this exists in a single box around that price range? I'm currently getting the functionality I want by connecting together a separate DAC, RCA switch box and headphone amp but it would be lovely if I could replace everything with a single device and clean up some of the cable clutter.

I've seen the Marantz HD-DAC1 and it seems to do everything I want, but the price point is double of what I'd like to spend and I don't need features like DSD, iPhone connectivity, fancy displays and such.

One of the things they swear by – and we can confirm that The Element nails this – is what is referred to in the industry as pitch-black sound. The idea is that, in a perfect amp, the internal circuitry should give off absolutely no noise at all, even at full power. When you turn the volume to full with nothing playing, a lesser amp will deliver a very slight hiss. That’s not a big thing – and in many tube amps, we’d be disappointed not to hear it, as that hiss is essential to altering the character of the sound. But if you’re going for true objective audio quality, without any kind of colouration, then zero noise is your goal.

The Element makes no noise. At all. Even at maximum volume, the background is as black as Donald Trump’s shrivelled little heart. And we mean that in the nicest possible way.

Put some music playing, and it’s clear that while perfect objectivity hasn’t been completely achieved, it’s very close. The amp certainly presents material as naturally as possible, with the dynamic realism that we really enjoyed hearing, but it also feels like it gives it a bit of extra life and character.

The quality of the audio felt big and booming. It was rich – not necessarily in terms of coloration, but in terms of detail. Bass felt deeper. Vocals smoother. Violins and hi-hats crisper. Guitars bit hard, and kick drums snapped and thumped agreeably.

It’s not quite as neutral and clear as something like the Objective2, which delivers the most natural sound we’ve ever heard. But while it might not be the ultimate objective solution, it makes up for it by lifting the audio up on a pedestal, and presenting it in the best possible light. The audio performance of this amp felt confident and assured – a lot like its design. We also adored the soundstage; while not quite as wide as other, pricier amplifiers, we could definitely pick out instruments at different positions around us, and we got a real sense of space and air.

What's with the 5 fuses? One per output device or something?

I know about the Element, but IIRC it does not work as a DAC and line-input amp at the same time, it doesn't have a controllable input selection. I read its manual and if the RCA input is connected the DAC isn't used, apparently. I find it very stupid to not include a damn input switch, but it is what it is.

That Peachtree sadly doesn't seem to have both fixed and adjustable outputs.

I had previously checked out the DacMagic Plus as well, but it has no analog input and I need at least one.

Attached: Capture.png (1011x1263, 101K)

The element does have an input switch. You can see it . Right next to the power button. Switches between DAC and Line in. As far as I know, the element's line out will always output audio. The only negative here is that it does not have pre amp control for the line out like you want.

My phono preamp.

Attached: IMG_20180409_121428.jpg (2048x1536, 1.92M)

I guess the manual is just misleading then, though if the RCA output isn't volume controlled it's a deal breaker. Element also doesn't have S/PDIF input. It seems to be pretty hard to find something which does everything I want. I can just stick with my 3 separate devices I guess, since I'm not paying $800 for a HD-DAC1. I think some audio-gd products also do everything I want, but those are expensive as well.

>Poor
Two decent looking speakers, dac, cambridge audio amp, plus a little dot mk II? Your setup looks decent for desk use especially.

Well-balanced, refined, spacious set-up.
8/10

I've been listening to them for about 6 hours straight using both FLAC and Youtube shit (first day using them) and i find them great. They sound very detailed but not fatiguing or harsh at all. Stereo imaging and bass are much better than i expected. Don't think I'll need a subwoofer anytime soon. They sound a little bit warm, but that just makes them more enjoyable for casual listening in my opinion. Until now I am very very satisfied with them.
It's a I+, not a II. I'm just used to seeing much more expensive equipment here, but what I have is more than enough for me.
Thanks user

And thanks to the other 2 anons as well for being nice!

Thanks for the confidence boost user

I never had any speaker, only used headphones so far. What speakers should I get with a budget of $150?

>>not fatiguing or harsh at all
noice

depends on:
room size
acoustic or rock

Attached: ohnonononono.gif (500x278, 897K)

dont know the exact measurements nut i'd guess its about 15-20m^2
also i listen to both occasionally, i want the most 'natural' sound if u know what i mean.
(the speakers are just for my desktop btw)

Since your budget is 150 dollars, you'll probably be looking at powered speakers. LSR308s are an option. Micca also has powered speakers for 119, the PB42X

The Micca ones look nice but I think you cant get them in europe. shouldve mentioned that.

I've heard good things about the Yamaha HS5. Never listened to them myself though.
Is the 150 your total budget or 150 for speakers + more for an amp?

i guess its just 150 total maybe a bit more but not too much

buy used: $50-$110 (avoid vintage (>15 years old) in this price range)
Yamaha NS-5290
Sony SS-B1000
Alesis Monitor One
Monitor Audio Radius 90
Mission 731i
Micca M-8S
Cambridge Audio S30
Onkyo D-N3XA
AUDIOENGINE 2 (powered: may have audible hiss)
Wharfedale Diamond 9 or 9.1

i found them all on US ebay; i'd go for Diamond 9's myself

buy new or used: $135
qAcoustics 2010 (free ship off amazon)

speakers in this price range all have one or two acoustic limitations like limited bass

LSR308 is $150 each, and they have audible hiss

Yeah, this is pretty much it. The little light on my desk is a threshold indicator which turns red as the subwoofer dynamically reduces the bass extension to prevent overload, unlike most limiters this inaudible and the speaker never makes any funky noises it just reduces extension. Since I'm nearfield that basically never happens because I'm sitting right there and listen at fairly sane levels.

The positives are the bass to mains is literally seamless. You can't tell where the subwoofer takes over, the time alignment is fantastic. For a 2.1 system for music it's absolutely great. Very good imaging and amazing detail.

For movies, you'd need a whole bunch of them to compare with subwoofers that are much more budget friendly (even if they didn't sound as good). It just doesn't have the output per unit. For a home theater that you'd want commercial output from I'd probably run 4x18"s but that would be like 8 grand, and for 8 grand there are a lot of options. I'd certainly consider it if budget allowed though, the bass is really fantastic.

>150 each
Thanks for correction, thought I saw it for 150 for the pair.

neat!
