This is why we can't have nice things. The OP image is real btw, clearly Jow Forums is falling on hard times and it's better to catch it now before we're in total free fall.

It was hard for moot and now it's tough for Hiro. I wish I had some ideas but I'm not smart like other people here, so let's do our best to save our favorite website!

Why not just make the non-porn boards all redirect to tumblr and leddit? You couldn't tell the difference anyway as they are all shit.

Jow Forums started out as /b/ and then branched out to sub-boards as interest grew for them. Meanwhile, /b/ was being cut up and gutted every time a "containment board" was made. /s4s/ is the last remnant of how /b/ originally was, except that it's much, much slower. Meanwhile, everything that made Jow Forums fun has been slowly banned or made impossible, all board culture has been destroyed in an effort to make the place more appealing to the masses.

I wish we could get back to how Jow Forums used to be, but it's just not possible for many reasons. Subcultures like anime that need a haven just don't exist anymore (today you are publically encouraged to be part of a subculture). Social media is everywhere, sharing an image can be done in a bajillion ways. Normies use most of the internet, and by extension, Jow Forums, and the site rules and moderations are done in a way to appeal the masses. Most of the stuff that would've made an epic thread here ten years ago would be considered bannable offense or shitposting today.

I mean what could we do to make a minimalistic site like what Jow Forums was, that is used primarily by a set of users who know how the internet works (ie. they aren't dumb phoneposters)? Set up a forum that has no form where you can post, except for an api endpoint you can push messages to? The minute it becomes popular, someone just makes an android app for it.

Okay, then I'll just discuss politics on every other board. Like I used to back in '08.

Jow Forums isn't something that's "leaking" onto the rest of Jow Forums. Jow Forums made an attempt to encourage more intelligent topics instead of desu bombs; what naturally followed was politics being discussed more (in part because every other social media is pushing propaganda harder then ever, and in part because the userbase was growing older). With the push to make the threads more normie friendly, came an influx of new users who considered the free-thought discussions on Jow Forums too toxic, and they wanted all the boards to be their safe spaces. And as a result, Jow Forums was made as a "containment board".

Basically, before that, saying that I want to eliminate all the juice was a joke that nobody gave a shit about. Now it's either offtopic and deleted, or a bannable offense, depending on the personal beliefs of the janitor or mod who sees it.

And that's what makes Jow Forums shit today. Not that we have Jow Forums, but because Jow Forums caters to normies so hard that it needs to have Jow Forums.
